How it works
A personal correction plan, inpatient observation and a year of recovery monitoring.
1The surgeon looks at your figure, talks through your wishes and picks the best volume, shape and correction method.
2We reserve a surgery date for you: the deposit can be paid by card at the clinic or online by bank transfer. The terms are fixed in the contract for medical services
3Ahead of surgery you go through full testing — blood tests, an ECG and other examinations as prescribed by the doctor.
4The operation follows your individual mammoplasty plan and is performed under general anaesthesia with continuous monitoring of the patient.
5After surgery you stay in the clinic's comfortable inpatient ward under the care of the medical team until discharge.
6A recovery programme is prescribed after surgery. Check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months follow your recovery, and for a year after surgery you consult your surgeon for free.

Ahead of surgery, take a few simple steps: balance work and rest, get more sleep, steer clear of stress, anxiety and strong emotions, and cut back on physical activity.
Hormonal oral contraceptives should be stopped at least a month before the procedure
Prior to surgery, cease taking aspirin-containing medicines, steroids and hormonal drugs for chronic illness
Get your tests a week ahead of surgery
Post-operative swelling disappears in 3 weeks
Within 3 weeks, scars form
No physical exertion (lifting over 3 kg)
Keep arms below shoulder level — 3 weeks
You wear compression garments for 1–1.5 months while recovering from the correction
Intense gym workouts should be avoided for up to 40 days, along with overly active aerobics; after a month light cardio may be possible. Watch your diet.
After 3 months, discomfort disappears
Baths and saunas are off-limits up to three months, as is physiotherapy
It takes up to 3 months for inflammatory tissue changes to resolve and for a “pocket” to form around the implant

FAQ
Yes. Boob job is the everyday name for breast augmentation. At City Medical Centre it is done with round or anatomical implants that the surgeon chooses with you at the consultation.
Breast enlargement adds volume with implants. A breast lift (mastopexy) raises sagging breasts and removes excess skin. Which one suits you is decided at the free consultation.
Mammoplasty covers several procedures: augmentation (increasing volume with implants), reduction (removing excess tissue and skin), mastopexy (lift for sagging), reconstruction (after mastectomy) and asymmetry correction. The best method is chosen individually based on your wishes and the surgeon's advice.
Message us — our coordinator will get back to you shortly and book your consultation. The plastic surgeon consultation is free.
Complications are infrequent provided all recommendations are followed. They may include hematoma or seroma, infection of the wound, changes in nipple sensitivity (lower or higher), capsular contracture, aesthetic asymmetry, wound separation and tissue necrosis.
Results after mammoplasty last a long while: about 10–15 years for augmentation (until implant replacement) and 5–10 years for a lift or reduction. Weight changes, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity affect their duration. To maintain the result, choose supportive underwear and control your weight.
Whether breastfeeding remains possible after mammoplasty depends on the type of operation. With augmentation via an under-breast or armpit incision and the implant beneath the muscle, lactation is usually preserved, as the glandular tissue is spared. After a lift or reduction the risk is higher because ducts may be cut. Talk it through with your surgeon beforehand.
In choosing implants, the surgeon considers material (silicone looks most natural, saline is less common), shape (round or anatomical teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), size and profile, and selects the best option for your anatomy and wishes.
The patient feels nothing during surgery, which is performed under general anaesthesia. Moderate discomfort in the first 1–3 days is possible and is treated with painkillers. By day 5–7 the pain is greatly reduced, and by weeks 2–3 no discomfort remains. With severe pain, contact your doctor immediately.
After 7–14 days you can resume work, provided there is no physical exertion. Light walking after 1–2 weeks. Fitness and swimming after 4–6 weeks, and strength training after 3 months. Pool and sea after 4–6 weeks. Wear compression garments for 4–6 weeks. The exact schedule depends on your recovery.
There is no scientific evidence that mammoplasty increases breast cancer risk. Implants do not cause cancer. After surgery, keep up regular screening — self-exams, mammography and ultrasound. Always tell the examining doctor about your implants.
Mammoplasty is possible after a C-section once your body has completely recovered. Leave at least 6–12 months after childbirth and after breastfeeding has ended. Surgery requires a prior consultation and check-up by the surgeon.
Mammoplasty does result in scars, but a skilled surgeon keeps them minimal. Incisions are made in areas that are out of sight: under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. At first scars are reddish, and within 6–12 months they fade and become nearly invisible.
Slight asymmetry early on, in the first weeks after surgery, is normal and is due to swelling and uneven healing. If the difference in shape or size persists after 3–6 months, get examined by your surgeon to identify the cause.
Sensitivity in the nipples and breasts may shift temporarily after mammoplasty, decreasing or increasing, because the nerve endings are irritated. It returns within 3–12 months in most cases. If it has not improved after a year, go see your surgeon.
Although hormonal drugs (contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy) have no direct impact on implants, they can produce swelling or changes in breast tissue volume, temporarily affecting appearance. Be sure your surgeon knows about such medications before surgery.

What exactly changes with augmentation? Volume grows and the bust gains a rounder or a more natural teardrop profile, depending on the implant selected. If you are researching breast augmentation in Nottingham, keep in mind that implants come smooth or textured and are selected for each body. With an under-breast or armpit incision and the implant placed under the muscle, lactation is usually preserved.
Here is the route in brief. Consultation and choice of implants. Lab tests and instrumental examinations. Surgery lasting on average 1.5 to 3 hours. One day under round-the-clock observation. Then a recovery program with swelling control and compression garments, plus check-ups at one week, three months and half a year. Women in Nottingham follow this same sequence.
One payment, many components. For from $4,700 (≈ £3,600), Nottingham patients receive result modelling at the consultation, surgery by a highly experienced team, a stay in inpatient rooms, meals, nursing supervision around the clock and support at every stage. Dressings and check-ups for the whole year are also included. The first step costs nothing: book a free consultation with the plastic surgeon.

I went to Dmitry Sergeyevich for breast augmentation with implants. At the consultation everything was explained in detail, and together we chose the best size. The operation under combined anaesthesia took 2 hours, and I was discharged home the next day. The swelling went down in about a month, and my breasts look very natural. The year of follow-up care is a real lifesaver: you can always ask a question and get an answer. Thank you to the clinic!

Breast augmentation is planned from home, so the first decision is when to book the operation. Most of the decisions that follow come from that date: how long the compression garment is worn, when you can swim again, and when training can resume. Take a concrete example. If the operation falls on Tuesday 3 November 2026, the first weeks of recovery sit in the darkest part of the Nottingham year. The Met Office 1991–2020 figures for Watnall, north-west of the centre, show December as the dullest month, with 55.3 hours of sunshine. October, November and December are also the three wettest months, at 71.7 mm, 69.5 mm and 69.6 mm. In practice, the first fortnight is usually spent indoors with short, careful walks, so the weather matters less than it would for a procedure that needs you outside.
The cold has one practical effect. Watnall averages 36.9 days of air frost a year, and January is the coldest month, with a mean maximum of 6.9 °C and a mean minimum of 1.7 °C. On such mornings people tend to reach for a heavy coat, and a rigid, heavy coat can be a problem in the first weeks. The recovery rules in the programme say not to raise the arms above shoulder level for 3 weeks and not to lift anything over 3 kg. A winter coat that you have to heave on over your head, or a bag that pulls on the shoulder, breaks both rules. Choose a loose, front-opening jacket and a light bag in advance, and keep both near the door.
The opposite season has its own considerations. The Nottingham summer is mild on average: July has a mean maximum of 21.5 °C and August 21.1 °C. Heat still arrives in short spells, with about 11 days a year at 25 °C or above, and Watnall recorded 39.8 °C on 19 July 2022. A compression garment worn for 1–1.5 months is noticeably less comfortable in a hot spell than in January. So if you are choosing between an autumn and a late-spring operation, the cool months make the garment easier to wear, but the short winter days make it harder to get out for a gentle walk. Weigh the two against your own routine.
When you message the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram, mention the month you have in mind. The coordinator is available 24/7, and the doctor will go through your photos and wishes during the online consultation, which is free. The date is only confirmed after you have agreed the plan, and nothing is booked before that.
The recovery programme puts compression garments at 1–1.5 months, and the answers to the frequent questions mention 4–6 weeks. Treat the longer figure as the safe one to plan around, and let the doctor give you the exact timing at your check-ups. With an operation on 3 November 2026, 4–6 weeks runs to roughly the start of December or a little later, and 1.5 months reaches about the middle of the month. The garment is therefore a feature of the whole run-up to Christmas.
A few weather-linked points are worth thinking through beforehand. Nottingham sits on low hills in the lower Trent valley, and the annual mean temperature is 10.1 °C, with a mean maximum of 13.8 °C and a mean minimum of 6.5 °C. Those are moderate figures. Indoor heating can still make a garment feel warm, and the contrast between a heated room and a cold street is something to prepare for with layers you can remove one at a time, ideally with front fastenings.
- Buy cotton-rich base layers in the size you will actually need while swelling is present.
- Keep a spare garment so one can be washed while the other is worn.
- Do not adjust or leave off the garment on your own initiative; ask the coordinator first, because the doctor sets the plan.
- Check the skin under the edges of the garment every day and report any redness, wetness or a spreading warm patch.
Post-operative swelling is said to disappear after 3 weeks, and the scars develop in the same period. Discomfort fades by about 3 months. The garment does not mean the same thing at each of these stages, so ask at the 7-day check-up whether the pressure or the style should change. Check-ups are planned at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months, and consultations with the doctor are free for a year. A fit problem is a reason to message the coordinator promptly, not to wait for the next scheduled check.
A longer-term point is the supportive underwear that the answers recommend for keeping the result. Once the garment phase ends, a well-fitted everyday bra is part of looking after the implants. Weight changes, pregnancy, skin ageing and gravity all affect how long the result lasts, which the text gives as about 10–15 years for augmentation, until implant replacement.
Nottingham has a visible sporting calendar. The Nottingham Trophy tennis tournament, the Robin Hood Marathon and the Outlaw Triathlon are all annual events, and the two football grounds face each other across the Trent. If you swim, run, play racket sports or train in a gym, the order in which you return to each activity matters more than the date you feel ready.
The timings the doctor works from are as follows. Easy walks are possible from 1–2 weeks. Light cardio may be possible after a month. Intense gym training is skipped for up to 40 days, and overly active aerobics is avoided. Fitness and swimming come back from 4–6 weeks, and the pool and sea are listed at the same 4–6 weeks. Strength training starts from 3 months. Baths, saunas and physiotherapy are not allowed for up to three months. Those are approximate guides, and the doctor confirms them against how you are healing.
Here is how that looks on a calendar. With an operation on 3 November 2026, easy walks are possible from the middle of the month. The 3-week limit on lifting more than 3 kg and raising the arms above shoulder level ends around 24 November. Intense gym training is skipped for up to 40 days, which takes you to about 13 December. Swimming and the pool open from 4–6 weeks, so around the start to the middle of December. Strength training from 3 months falls in early February 2027. A bath or sauna is not allowed for up to three months either. Showers are a separate question, so ask the doctor how to wash around the dressings.
Upper-body work is the area people most often underestimate. Press-ups, rows, pull-ups, racket serves and swimming strokes all load the chest and shoulders. The 3-week rule on raising the arms above shoulder level and the later return of strength training exist because of the implant pocket. The text says that within 3 months the tissue is free of inflammatory changes and a pocket surrounds the implant. Until that point, loading the chest muscle strongly is something to avoid.
If you take part in an organised event, such as a marathon or triathlon, plan the operation around it with real margin. Do not expect a full race build-up in the same weeks as the recovery. Tell the coordinator which events matter to you, and the doctor will suggest a realistic order for coming back to training.
The text gives a return to work, without physical exertion, after 7–14 days. That range is wide, and the real answer depends on your job. A desk job with no lifting sits at the near end, while work that involves carrying, reaching overhead or long periods on your feet will sit at the far end or beyond. Your exact timing depends on your individual recovery, so decide it with the doctor rather than from a calendar.
The calendar is still useful. England has 8 bank holidays in 2026, and two are close to a November operation: Christmas Day on 25 December and the Boxing Day substitute on Monday 28 December. A date on Tuesday 3 November 2026 with a 7–14 day return to office work lands between 10 and 17 November. That leaves several weeks before the Christmas break for the 3-week limits on lifting and raising the arms to pass and for swelling to settle. If you instead choose a date in December, the holiday period may look like free recovery time, but check-ups and shops are affected by it, so ask the coordinator which dates work for the planned 7-day check-up.
Some practical planning points for different circumstances follow.
- **If you are a student:** almost 62,000 students attend the three universities in Nottingham, which are Nottingham Trent, the University of Law and the University of Nottingham. A term timetable with deadlines, labs or placements is worth checking before you fix a date, and you may want to arrange an extension through your own course channels if you need one.
- **If you have children:** check school term dates and the pick-up routine. Lifting a small child counts as lifting well over 3 kg, so arrange help for the first 3 weeks.
- **If you work shifts or on your feet:** discuss the restrictions with your employer in advance, and ask the doctor whether lighter duties can be requested.
On the day of the operation itself, the stay is one day at the clinic, under general anaesthesia, with nursing care around the clock. Plan for someone to help you at home when you return, even if only for the first days. Moderate discomfort in the first 1–3 days is eased with painkillers, and by days 5–7 it is much milder. Tell the doctor immediately if pain is severe.
The NHS is clear on this point. Cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided on the NHS, and most people who want it need to pay privately. The NHS might fund some procedures for psychological or other health reasons, for example breast enlargement for very uneven or absent breasts that cause significant psychological distress. If you think your situation might fall into that category, speak to your GP first. The online consultation with our doctor is free and does not replace that conversation, and the doctor will not decide NHS funding.
The wider backdrop is also worth knowing. NHS England reported 7.3 million waiting-list pathways at the end of July 2026, around 6.2 million unique patients, and 111,379 of them had waited more than 52 weeks. That is general context about NHS waiting times and not a statement about breast procedures in particular. It does help explain why many people who are not eligible for NHS cosmetic procedures, and who would not want to wait in a queue, look at privately arranged care with a fixed plan and a date they can choose.
Preparation starts well before the date. The text recommends the following, 1–2 months in advance:
- keep a healthy balance between work and rest and sleep more;
- avoid stress and strong emotions, and reduce physical activity;
- discontinue hormonal oral contraceptives at least one month before the procedure, after checking with your doctor.
In the 1–2 weeks before surgery, drugs containing aspirin, steroids and hormonal medication for chronic conditions need to be discontinued, with the doctor's guidance. The tests (blood tests, an ECG and other examinations the doctor prescribes) are done about a week before the operation.
Some conditions mean mammoplasty is not suitable, including pregnancy and breastfeeding, acute infections, inflamed or damaged skin in the surgical area, decompensated chronic diseases, uncorrected clotting disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, an age under 18, and breast tumours before treatment is complete. If one of these applies, the doctor will tell you at the consultation, so you do not pay for an operation you do not need. Seasonal infections such as winter colds are worth mentioning to the coordinator, because an acute infection close to the date is a reason to reschedule.
Finally, an honest note on figures. The Health Survey for England 2022 reports obesity in 29% of adults, with a regional range from 39% in the North East to 21% in London, and Nottingham falls in the East Midlands region. These are population statistics, not a rule about you. Your own weight and its stability are something to discuss with the doctor, because weight changes affect how long the result lasts.
Many people find it workable. The cold months make a compression garment worn for 1–1.5 months more comfortable than it would be in a hot spell, and the Met Office figures for Watnall show a January mean maximum of 6.9 °C. The trade-off is short days, with December averaging only 55.3 hours of sunshine, and wet weather in October to December, which can limit gentle walking. Choose a front-opening jacket and a light bag, and discuss the date with the coordinator.
On average, not very warm. July has a mean maximum of 21.5 °C and August 21.1 °C, and about 11 days a year reach 25 °C or above. Short hot spells do happen, and Watnall recorded 39.8 °C on 19 July 2022. If your compression period falls in warm weather, ask the doctor about breathable fabrics and a spare garment, and do not take the garment off without agreement.
Plan with a clear margin. Easy walks are possible from 1–2 weeks, light cardio may be possible after a month, intense gym training is avoided for up to 40 days, swimming and the pool open from 4–6 weeks, and strength training starts from 3 months. Racing is not a recovery activity, so tell the coordinator which event matters and the doctor will set a realistic order for your return to training.
England has 8 bank holidays in 2026, and the late-year ones are Christmas Day on 25 December and the substitute Boxing Day on Monday 28 December. If the operation is on 3 November 2026, the 7-day check-up and the 3-week limits on lifting and raising the arms fall well before the holidays. A date in December puts the early check-ups close to the break, so ask the coordinator how they will be arranged.
Nearly 62,000 students attend the three universities in the city, so this is a common question. A return to non-physical work or study is possible after 7–14 days, but the exact time depends on your recovery. Check lab sessions, deadlines and placements first, and avoid carrying heavy bags or raising your arms above shoulder level for 3 weeks.
Usually not. The NHS says cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided and most people who want it need to pay privately. It might fund some procedures for psychological or other health reasons, such as breast enlargement for very uneven or absent breasts that cause significant psychological distress. Talk to your GP about that route; our doctor's online consultation is free and separate.
It does not change the medical side, but it explains the context. NHS England reported 7.3 million waiting-list pathways at the end of July 2026, and 111,379 had waited more than 52 weeks. Those figures cover all specialties. Our consultation gives you a plan, a date and a free consultation at the start, and you confirm the plan before anything is booked.
Prepare for the first 3 weeks. Do not lift more than 3 kg or raise your arms above shoulder level, so put everyday items at waist height. Have front-opening tops, a spare compression garment and someone to help for the first days, especially if you have children. Discontinue the medicines the doctor names, have your tests a week before, and use the coordinator for any question, 24/7.
