What is a facelift?
After 40–50 the skin gradually loses firmness: tissues sag noticeably, jowls form, the jawline blurs and the cheeks droop. A surgical SMAS facelift works deeper than cosmetology — it repositions the muscle and fascia layer, treating the cause of sagging rather than its effects, so it gives a lasting result even with significant changes.

SMAS facelift (standard)
A classic SMAS lift of the mid and lower face. The surgeon works on the skin and the SMAS layer, with incisions hidden along the hairline and around the ears. It removes jowls, sagging cheeks, a double chin and deep nasolabial folds. Results last 7–10 years.
Full (circular) facelift
A comprehensive lift of the forehead, temples, mid and lower face and neck. Suits patients with marked sagging in several areas at once. It gives the most complete rejuvenation and a natural look with no “mask” effect. Results last up to 10 years.
Neck and lower face lift
A lift focused on the lower face, chin and neck. It removes a double chin, jowls and loose neck skin. Access is through small incisions, so scars are barely visible. The best option when sagging affects only the lower face.
Endoscopic brow and temple lift
A gentle technique: the surgeon works with an endoscope through tiny punctures. The brows are repositioned, forehead and frown lines are smoothed and the eyes look more open. Almost no incisions — scars are hidden in the hairline.
Skin
The skin flap is carefully lifted and redraped, and excess skin is removed. The skin lies smoothly without excess tension: folds are smoothed and the surface evened out.
Subcutaneous fat
Fat in the cheeks and lower face is redistributed to restore volume. The “heaviness” of the lower face is removed, and the facial contour becomes crisp and defined.
SMAS layer: muscles and ligaments
The key step of the surgery. By lifting and securing the muscle and fascia layer, the surgeon treats the very cause of sagging: weakened ligaments and descended muscles. Deep SMAS work is what gives results of up to 10 years and a natural look.

Facelift: frequently asked questions
Is a SMAS facelift painful?
The surgery is done under general (inhalation) anaesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain. For the first few days you may feel discomfort and tightness, which are relieved with medication prescribed by your doctor.
When will I see results and how long do they last?
The first clear changes appear once the swelling goes down, after 3–4 weeks. The face takes on its final look within 3–6 months. With a surgical SMAS facelift the effect lasts 7–10 years.
Is there a recovery period?
Yes. For the first 7–10 days you need rest, a compression bandage and reduced physical activity. Swelling and bruising fade in 2–4 weeks, and full recovery takes about 2 months. Your operating surgeon follows you up for the whole first year.
Can a facelift be combined with other surgeries?
Yes. A surgical facelift is often combined with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), rhinoplasty or double-chin liposuction. The scope of a combined procedure is decided by the surgeon at the consultation.
Can I pay for surgery in instalments?

What is a SMAS facelift and how does it differ from a standard facelift?
A standard (skin-only) lift affects just the top layer of skin and gives a short-lived effect. A SMAS facelift is deeper surgery: the surgeon works on the facial muscle and fascia layer, lifting tissues at the cause rather than the effect. The outcome is natural and lasting.
How many surgeries does it take to get a result?
One surgery gives a complete result. A repeat procedure may be done after 7–10 years if the patient wishes.
From what age can I have a surgical facelift?
As a rule, surgery is recommended for patients aged 40+ with marked tissue sagging, and in some cases from 35. The recommendation is given individually after an examination.
