I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Points people raise

We answer what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes. City Medical Centre accepts patients from other cities and countries, and an online consultation is available before you decide.

FUE is $2,200 (≈ PEN 7,600), DHI is $2,500 (≈ PEN 8,700), combined DHI+FUE is $2,700 (≈ PEN 9,300). A free consultation with a graft count gives you the exact, contract-fixed price.

It is a one-day procedure — you leave for home right after.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

No — the procedure is done under local anaesthesia and is painless.

FUE is the classic method: grafts are harvested with tweezers, with no cuts or stitches. DHI implants grafts without channels, using a Choi pen. A combined method harvests grafts by FUE and implants them with the DHI pen.

The doctor calculates the exact number of grafts at a free consultation, based on your donor area.

The timeline is: 0–10 days healing, 2–4 weeks shedding (normal), 3–4 months new growth, 6–9 months visible density, and 12–18 months for the final result.

A contract-backed, lifetime guarantee of hair growth comes with every procedure.

What people from Lima ask before the surgery

A patient in Lima will find the requirements modest: FUE and DHI ask for no cuts, no stitches and no more than local anaesthesia, and the whole operation is behind you by the end of one day.

For anyone in Lima the entry point is a free online consultation. Pictures of the bare patch are all the doctor needs in order to say whether a transplant would help you. The clinic is available 24/7.

Timeline after surgery: healing 0-10 days, shedding of the transplanted hairs 2-4 weeks and it is normal, growth 3-4 months, density 6-9, final result 12-18. A personal coordinator tracks it all by photo with check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and the contract gives a lifetime growth guarantee.

Written by Anastasia A. Kolesnik, plastic surgeon, hair transplant doctor

Medically reviewed by Ellina V. Goncharova, dermatovenereologist, trichologist, surgeon. Review date:

Lima: a desert capital of roughly 10 million people, with almost no rain to plan around

Census-based projections for 2023 put the population of the city of Lima at about 10,092,000 and that of the Lima Metropolitan Area at about 10,151,200. The coordinates place it on the Pacific coast, at 12 degrees south, and its elevation range is given as 0 to 1,550 metres. A city of that size is served by a very wide range of providers, and size alone says nothing about whether a specific doctor is registered or experienced in hair restoration. That has to be checked doctor by doctor, and the checks are set out further down.

The setting explains the weather. Lima is a desert city, and its climate differs from most Latin American capitals in a way that matters for the weeks after a transplant.

Lima's grey, dry winter and warm, humid summer: an unusual climate for post-transplant recovery

Lima has a desert climate with subtropical temperature ranges, and its two seasons are defined more by sunshine than by rain. Summer runs from December to April, with highs of 25 to 30 degrees Celsius and lows of 18 to 22. Winter runs from June to September or October, with highs of 16 to 19 and lows of 14 to 16. Relative humidity is high all year, between 81 and 84 percent. Rain is almost absent. Annual totals are measured in millimetres, not centimetres, and what falls in winter is mostly garúa, a fine morning drizzle that is frequent from June to September.

For a transplant that means rain is rarely a scheduling problem in Lima, whichever month you choose. Whatever weather there is, the aftercare plan is the same: it covers the washing method for the transplanted and donor areas, the sleeping posture and suitable headwear, and the doctor gives you the specifics. The climate figures only tell you what weather to expect while you follow them.

The biology does not depend on the season. Healing takes 0 to 10 days. Shedding of the transplanted hairs at 2 to 4 weeks is normal. New growth begins at 3 to 4 months, visible density builds at 6 to 9 months, and the final result is reached at 12 to 18 months after the procedure. A winter operation therefore shows its first growth in the warm months, and a summer operation shows it in the grey season, a difference that matters only to how you feel about it.

A little arithmetic with the main weather station's monthly means for 1991 to 2020 shows how the calendar works. The mean temperature climbs from 17.3 degrees in August to 24.6 in February, with an annual mean of 20.5. An operation in August, the coldest month, brings shedding in September and the first new growth around December, when summer is under way. An operation in February brings the first growth around June, at the start of the grey season, and visible density in the following winter and spring. The final result at 12 to 18 months arrives in whichever season it arrives, and the clinic's follow-up at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months does not change with the weather.

How a patient in Lima checks a doctor with the Colegio Médico del Perú and the ISHRS

The official site of the Colegio Médico del Perú lists a doctor-lookup service called Conoce a tu médico, and a second service that checks a certificate of good standing for authenticity. Use the first to find the doctor by name before you book, and ask for the registration number in writing.

For the narrower question of hair restoration, the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery runs a Find a Doctor directory. It says it includes Fellow Members and full Members of the society, that it does not promote individual doctors, and that listing is free. Not every good surgeon is a member, and the directory is a second source, not a verdict.

Know the two basic ways of taking grafts, so that the words used at a consultation are not a mystery. In strip harvesting, the surgeon removes a strip of skin from the back of the scalp, and assistants cut it into individual follicular units under a microscope, which leaves a linear scar. In FUE, individual follicular units of one to four hairs are removed one at a time with punches of 0.6 to 1.0 millimetres under local anaesthesia, and only small punctate marks remain. The general literature describes FUE as slower, and some surgeons note that it can lead to a lower ratio of successfully transplanted follicles. Ask any doctor which method they use, how long the session lasts and how they judge the donor area.

At the first consultation, ask how many hair transplants the doctor has personally performed and how a result that does not meet expectations is handled. A direct answer tells you more than any single registration number. Our doctors work with FUE, where grafts are harvested without cuts or stitches, and with DHI, where grafts are implanted without channels using a Choi pen.

Bring your own questions in writing. Ask who will perform each stage, whether the doctors' diplomas and certificates can be seen, and how the graft count is set. At our consultation the graft number is worked out from your donor zone, the outcome it supports is shown to you, and the figure is recorded in the contract. The first conversation can happen online: a few clear photos of the thinning area are enough for a doctor to say whether a transplant would help.

Public health schemes in Peru and an elective hair procedure

EsSalud is Peru's social security programme and is funded by payroll contributions paid by employers; the Seguro Integral de Salud provides free basic care and automatically registers people living in extreme poverty. The Ministry of Health provides the bulk of public primary care. Those descriptions say nothing about elective cosmetic procedures, so we do not claim that either scheme pays for a hair transplant. Ask your insurer or employer in writing.

The procedure itself is done in a single day under local anaesthesia, with no cuts and no stitches for FUE and DHI. The first stretch of recovery is 0 to 10 days, and the clinic gives you instructions for washing, sleeping posture, headwear and a plan for returning to sport. Photo check-ins with a personal coordinator follow at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Agree the days off with your employer before you choose a date.

Who a transplant is not for, and the steps from first message to discharge

The doctor says at the consultation when surgery has nothing to offer you. The situations in which a transplant is effective are androgenetic or diffuse alopecia, bald spots and a receding front edge of the hair. The list of reasons against it is longer: trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, being under 18, a high front edge of the hair, insufficient hair density, shedding after an illness, a hormonal imbalance behind the shedding, intolerance to anaesthetics, epilepsy, serious heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, a pacemaker, HIV or hepatitis B or C, pulmonary embolism and patchy alopecia.

If none of that applies, the sequence is short. After the free first appointment, where the FUE and DHI approaches are explained and a plan is designed for your case, the date is fixed in a contract for medical services. Before surgery a set of tests is required, and the clinic gives you the exact list with instructions. On the day, anaesthesia is local, grafts are taken from the back of the head or the temples without stitching, and they are implanted into the balding zone. The last stage is recovery, with scabs and swelling settling, and the clinic provides everything needed along with full instructions.

Can a patient in Lima start with an online consultation?

Yes. A coordinator answers on WhatsApp and Telegram at any hour, so photos of the thinning area sent in the evening or on a day off still get a reply and a graft estimate.

Does Lima's lack of rain change anything about recovery?

The biological timeline is the same everywhere: 0 to 10 days of healing and 2 to 4 weeks of shedding. Lima's dry climate only means rain is rarely a scheduling factor.

How do I check that a hair transplant doctor in Lima is registered?

Use the Colegio Médico del Perú's Conoce a tu médico service and ask for the registration number. You can also look the doctor up in the ISHRS Find a Doctor directory, which lists its Fellow and full Members.

Does EsSalud or the SIS cover a hair transplant?

Nothing we rely on says they do. Both are described in terms of social security and basic care, so ask your insurer or employer in writing.

When will I see the final result?

New growth starts at 3 to 4 months, visible density at 6 to 9 months, and the final result at 12 to 18 months after the procedure.

How is my graft count worked out?

At a free consultation the doctor reviews the donor area and the thinning pattern and calculates an individual graft estimate before any date is agreed.

How long is the operation?

It is completed in a single day under local anaesthesia, and FUE and DHI involve no cuts and no stitches.

Is shedding after the operation a problem?

No. Shedding of the transplanted hairs at 2 to 4 weeks is normal and is followed by new growth at 3 to 4 months.
