I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Usual things asked

We cover what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes, they are accepted. City Medical Centre works with people from places large and small, and the case is discussed online before a decision.

FUE: $2,200 (≈ €2,000). DHI: $2,500 (≈ €2,250). Combined: $2,700 (≈ €2,450). A free consultation and graft count gives you the final, contract-fixed price with no hidden extras.

The procedure runs across one day, and you are home that night.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

Local anaesthesia means patients sit through it feeling nothing.

FUE relies on tweezer harvesting with no incisions or stitches. DHI relies on Choi-pen implantation without channels. The combined DHI+FUE approach harvests by FUE and implants by DHI.

Graft count is calculated by the doctor at no cost, based on an assessment of your donor zone.

Your scalp heals in 0–10 days. The grafted hairs let go at 2–4 weeks, which is normal. New growth appears at 3–4 months, density is marked from 6–9 months, and the result finalises at 12–18 months.

A contract-backed, lifetime guarantee of hair growth comes with every procedure.

Alicante and a transplant that takes one day

A resident of Alicante can plan around a single day: FUE and DHI leave no cuts and no stitches and are done under local anaesthesia. Graft survival stands at 98-100 %, while a price from $2,200 (≈ €2,000) is fixed in the contract after the free counting of grafts.

The start costs nothing in Alicante: a free online consultation where the doctor sees photos of the thinning area and gives a graft count. The clinic is on the line 24/7, so you can write during a break rather than at night.

Healing needs 0-10 days of your patience and nothing else. Then at 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed, a normal turn of events. Growth starts at 3-4 months and continues long after that first sign of it.

3,014 hours of sun and a scalp with less cover

Anyone considering a hair transplant in Alicante should start with the light. The city gets about 3,014 hours of sunshine a year. July alone brings around 345 hours, and even December still has about 175. The climate is classed as hot semi-arid. July and August are the hottest months, with average highs of 30.7 and 31.1 °C and nights that stay near 21 °C. The record stands at 42.0 °C, set on 13 August 2022. For a person with thinning hair, this means the scalp spends much of the year with little natural shade.

That is why the headwear advice matters more here than in a cloudy region. The programme includes guidance on washing your hair, on sleep and on headwear, together with a care plan for both the transplanted area and the donor area at the back of the head. The doctor tailors that guidance to your case. Ask during the online consultation how the plan fits a sunny city: which kind of cap or hat suits your situation, and how to keep the treated skin shaded when you are outdoors.

Winters are mild. January is the coldest month, with highs around 17.2 °C and lows around 6.7 °C. Cold is therefore rarely the reason to cover your head, and sun is. You could say that in Alicante the hat works as a shield against sunlight more than against frost. The coastal setting at only 3 m above sea level and on mostly flat ground gives plenty of open, unshaded places. Think through your own routine, such as commuting, sport and time on the beach, and tell the coordinator about it so that the care plan reflects real habits rather than a generic leaflet.

Laying the growth timeline over the Alicante calendar

A transplant is a slow project, and the stages are well defined. In the first 0-10 days the crusts fall away, the swelling subsides and the area slowly recovers. At 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed. This is a normal stage: only the hairs fall out, and the follicles stay in place. The first new growth appears at 3-4 months, density shows at 6-9 months, and the final result arrives 12-18 months after the procedure. Follow-up visits are set at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, so you can see the whole sequence ahead of time.

Here is a worked example. Suppose the procedure takes place in November 2026. The healing days and the shedding phase would then fall in late autumn and early winter, which in Alicante means mild days with highs near 17 °C in January. The first growth would show around February or March 2027, and density would build from about May to August 2027. The final result would be judged between November 2027 and May 2028. In that scenario the sunniest summer weeks arrive while the hair is thickening, so a shade plan for July is worth settling early.

Now take a procedure in March 2027. The first growth would then come around June or July 2027, right in the peak of sunshine, and density would show between about September and December 2027. The final result would be judged between March and September 2028. Neither calendar is better in every respect. The first puts the delicate early days into the cooler season. The second puts the first visible growth into the brightest months. Which one suits you is a question for the doctor, who sees your donor area and your graft count.

These dates are only an illustration of how the stages stack up. The real schedule is agreed with the coordinator before anything is booked, and the date is confirmed under a medical services contract. If your calendar has fixed points such as a wedding, a work deadline or a holiday period, mention them in the first message. Counting backwards from them is easier than adjusting afterwards.

Humidity, rare rain and how it shapes aftercare

Alicante is dry in total but humid in the air. Average humidity is around 65 %, while annual precipitation is only 284.5 mm, spread over roughly 34.7 days. July is the driest month with 3.2 mm. September and October are the wettest, with 51.1 mm and 33.1 mm. The city has no permanent river, only dry ramblas, so rain tends to be an occasional event rather than a constant background.

For aftercare this has a practical side. The programme gives you instructions on washing your hair and on headwear, and the doctor can explain how to follow them on a humid, sunny day as well as on a rainy one. A sudden autumn shower in September or October is a good reason to know in advance what to do with a cap or hat that gets wet, and how to dry and clean it. Put that question to the coordinator before the procedure, not after.

The sea is the other local factor. The municipality has beaches such as San Juan, Postiguet, La Almadraba, Albufereta, Agua Amarga and El Saladar, and the island of Tabarca belongs to the municipality too. Sea temperature averages 19.6 °C over the year, falling to 14 °C in February and March and rising to 26 °C in August. Those figures explain why the sea invites you in during summer. They do not tell you when it is safe for transplanted skin. The programme includes a plan for returning to sport and hair care, and that plan is where your questions about swimming belong. Ask the doctor directly and follow the answer you are given rather than the weather.

Waiting lists, cosmetic rules and why a private consultation is often the first step

Anyone in Alicante who looks at the public system for a cosmetic matter runs into two facts. First, the common portfolio of national health services states that techniques with the purpose of «mere aesthetic or cosmetic improvement» are not financed. Procedures with an aesthetic purpose that are unrelated to an accident, an illness or a congenital malformation are excluded from specialised care. Whether a particular case of hair loss falls on one side or the other is a matter for the health system's own assessment, and it is not something this text can decide for you.

Second, waiting times are long in plastic surgery. At the end of 2025 it was the specialty with the longest average wait in the national health system, 269 days. The national average for all surgical waiting lists was 121 days, and in the Comunitat Valenciana it was 88 days, with 51,600 patients waiting. For first specialist consultations the national average was 102 days. These numbers describe the public queue in general and say nothing about a particular hospital or about hair.

The online consultation at City Medical Centre does not depend on that queue. It is free, and the coordinators answer round the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram. You send photos, the doctor assesses them and tells you whether a transplant is suitable. The service text is clear that a transplant does not suit everyone. Some cases can be solved without surgery, and the doctor says so at the consultation. Conditions such as androgenetic or diffuse alopecia and bald patches are the usual indications, and a list of contraindications is also provided. Reading that list before you write is a sensible habit, and it costs nothing.

Campus terms, fiesta nights and a recovery that fits real life

Alicante has a rhythm of its own, and some parts of it matter when you choose a date. The University of Alicante, founded in 1979, has its campus in Sant Vicent del Raspeig, next to the city, and it has more than 25,000 students. If your life follows an academic calendar as a student or a lecturer, look at your exam periods and teaching weeks first. The first 0-10 days are the stage with crusts and swelling, and you will want them away from your busiest commitments.

The other fixed point is the Hogueras de San Juan, held from 19 to 24 June and recognised as a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. A few days later come five nights of fireworks competitions on the Postiguet beach. These are crowded, loud, bright days. If you plan to take part, count backwards. In the November 2026 example, the density stage runs roughly from May to August 2027, so the fiestas would fall in a phase when the hair is thickening and the long-term result is not final yet. That calls for a conversation about sun, crowds and headwear. It does not have to mean staying away from the celebration.

Support does not depend on the calendar. You are given a personal coordinator who guides you from the first enquiry to recovery, and progress is tracked by photo. This works well for a city with such strong light. Take your follow-up photos in even daylight, with the same angles each time, and send them through the messenger you already use. The follow-up visits at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months give the doctor a clear record to compare with the initial photos.

Finally, think of the whole programme as one year of care and not as one day. The procedure day takes just one day at the clinic, with local anaesthesia. The remaining months are about patience, shade, gentle washing and watching the stages in order. A plan built around your own calendar makes that year easier to follow.

Which time of year is easier to plan a transplant around in Alicante?

There is no single answer. Winters are mild, with January highs around 17.2 °C, and the early healing days would then pass in cooler weather. Summers are very sunny, with July bringing about 345 hours of sunshine. The doctor looks at your donor area and your schedule and helps you choose. Whichever season you pick, ask for a headwear and shade plan for the months when the new hair first appears at 3-4 months.

Does the strong sun in Alicante mean I should wait for a particular season?

The sun is a reason to plan, not necessarily to wait. The city gets about 3,014 hours of sunshine a year, and even December has about 175. The programme includes advice on headwear and a care plan for the transplanted and donor areas. Describe your daily routine to the coordinator, such as your commute, sport and time outdoors, and the plan can be adapted to it.

Will the humidity in Alicante affect how the grafts grow?

The medical information available to us does not link humidity to graft growth, so we will not claim any effect. Average humidity is around 65 %. What matters in practice is following the washing and headwear instructions you are given. If you have a concern about humid days or about a cap that gets damp, ask the doctor during the consultation.

I want to be at the Hogueras de San Juan in June. How should I plan?

The Hogueras run from 19 to 24 June, and fireworks nights on the Postiguet beach follow a few days later. Count backwards from those dates using the stages: crusts and swelling in the first 0-10 days, shedding at 2-4 weeks, first growth at 3-4 months. Tell the coordinator about your plans in the first message so the procedure date can be set well away from the busiest days.

Does public healthcare in the Comunitat Valenciana cover a hair transplant?

The common portfolio of national health services excludes techniques whose purpose is mere aesthetic or cosmetic improvement. Procedures with an aesthetic purpose unrelated to an accident, an illness or a congenital malformation are also excluded from specialised care. Whether your case is assessed differently is for the health system to say. A free online consultation at City Medical Centre can at least tell you whether a transplant would suit you.

How long do public waiting times matter for this decision?

They matter as context. At the end of 2025 plastic surgery had the longest average wait in the national system, 269 days, while the average across all surgical lists was 121 days. In the Comunitat Valenciana the average was 88 days. An online consultation does not enter that queue, so you can learn your options in a short time. The coordinators answer round the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram.

I live in Alicante. Do I need to prepare anything before the first message?

Take a few clear photos of the front, the sides, the crown and the donor area at the back of the head. Alicante light is strong, so choose even daylight, and avoid harsh midday sun and deep shadows. Send them on WhatsApp or Telegram. The doctor assesses them for free, tells you whether a transplant suits your case and estimates the number of grafts. Nothing is booked at this stage.

Can I swim in the sea or go to a beach such as San Juan or Postiguet after a transplant?

The sea is close, with an average temperature of 19.6 °C and 26 °C in August, so the question is a natural one. The programme includes a plan for returning to sport and hair care. Ask the doctor at the consultation for the exact guidance for your case, and follow it rather than general advice found elsewhere.
