FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
frequently asked questions

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

Rhinoplasty in Bydgoszcz from consultation to final shape

Modern nose surgery is more than a cosmetic change: it is complex work aimed at an aesthetic result without harming health. For those in Bydgoszcz with breathing problems as well as aesthetic concerns, septorhinoplasty combines septum correction and reshaping in one operation. That way the look becomes harmonious and full nasal breathing is restored at the same time.

Here is the route in short: consultation with a 3D forecast, a full lab work-up confirming there are no contraindications, the operation, a day in the inpatient unit and then a recovery course with swelling relief and nose monitoring. Mild congestion may persist for 1–1.5 months. Nasal breathing usually returns within 1–2 weeks for patients in Bydgoszcz.

The consultation costs nothing and gives a realistic forecast: facial proportions are assessed, a 3D model of the future nose is shown and a personal surgery and recovery plan is drawn up. After that, the fee for rhinoplasty is $4,200 (≈ PLN 16,500) with inpatient care, dressings and follow-ups included. Patients from Bydgoszcz can book via the form or message us in any messenger.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Breathing in a damp, river-cut climate

Bydgoszcz sits at about 60 m above sea level in northern Poland. The Brda runs roughly 28 km through the city before it joins the Vistula, and the Bydgoszcz Canal adds about 6.5 km of water across the western part. A city built around water has a particular atmosphere, and the numbers bear it out. Relative humidity averages 80.3% over the year. It is highest in November at 90.5% and in December at 89.3%, and lowest in May at 69.7%. For anyone who already notices that one nostril works better than the other, these figures are a useful backdrop when thinking about when to have the operation.

Rhinoplasty is not only about shape. In the primary version, the operation adjusts appearance and also improves breathing when airflow is restricted. When the septum is deviated, rhinoseptoplasty combines septum correction with a change in the outer form of the nose. If you live in Bydgoszcz and the damp months leave you feeling blocked, tell the coordinator before the consultation. Describe which side feels tighter, when it is worse, and whether an old injury is involved. The doctor will take this into account when planning, and it affects whether the plan is rhinoplasty, septoplasty, or the combined operation.

The numbers above come from 1991–2020 averages and are not a forecast for any particular week. They are still enough to give a rough idea of the seasons. January has a mean maximum of 1.1 °C and a mean minimum of -3.7 °C. February averages 2.7 °C by day and -3.0 °C at night, and December 2.0 °C and -2.4 °C. Cold, humid air and dry indoor air are different experiences for the nose. After the operation, most of your time will be spent indoors in any case, because the recovery programme and the check-ups set the rhythm of the first months.

One practical point comes before any discussion of timing. The doctor needs to know whether you have inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes. Inflammation in those areas appears among the contraindications for rhinoplasty. A cold that drags on through a grey Bydgoszcz November is therefore not a detail to keep to yourself. Mention it in your first message and again at the online consultation. If it matters, the plan can be shifted rather than pushed through.

Rain, water and the months when the nose feels different

Bydgoszcz receives 532.3 mm of precipitation a year, spread over 158.4 days with at least 0.1 mm. That is a lot of days when the sky is doing something. July is the wettest month at 83.4 mm, followed by June at 56.7 mm and August at 55.6 mm. The driest are February at 26.3 mm and April at 28.2 mm. Older figures for 1945–1994 put the annual total near 512 mm, with 533 mm for 1993–2002, so the picture is stable: moderate rainfall, frequent damp days, and a summer that is wet rather than dry.

How does this relate to a nose operation? Mainly through planning, not through any claim about weather improving healing. The service has fixed medical points that you cannot move around. Preparation begins 21 days before the operation. The tests are a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia, and you stay one day in the inpatient unit. After that come check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months, and the free consultations with the doctor continue for a year. Because the follow-up is spread across a year, you will pass through several kinds of Bydgoszcz weather whenever you start.

If you are choosing between a wetter season and a drier one, look at how each fits those fixed points. Imagine you settle on an operation in late January 2027. The 21-day preparation would then start in early January, when the mean daily minimum is still below freezing. The 7-day check would fall in the first week of February, which is among the driest months of the year. The 3-month check would come in late spring, and the 6-month check in the summer rains. That is only an example of how to count, but it shows how to build the plan from the medical steps outward. The coordinator can lay out your own timeline once a date is on the table.

The Brda also shapes the city for walking. Mill Island (Wyspa Młyńska) in the centre exists because the Brda was dammed there, with the Młynówka river running around it. Looking at it from the bank is a gentle, low-effort way to spend a recovery day. We make no claim about how far or how soon you should walk after the operation. The recovery programme you receive after surgery sets the limits, and the coordinator who stays in touch during recovery will answer questions about what is allowed.

Glasses, sunlight and the colour of the splint

The nasal splint is one of the more visible parts of the early recovery, and the service gives patients a real choice of colour: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry or carbon. The idea is that small details help you feel more at ease while the nose is changing. For someone in Bydgoszcz, the question is usually practical: how will the splint look on an ordinary day outdoors, in a coat and scarf, in a city that is grey and damp for long stretches?

Sunlight is a real topic here. Polish sources give about 1,509 hours of sunshine a year for the city, although the period of measurement is not stated. In summer, July averages a daytime maximum of 24.6 °C and a night minimum of 13.7 °C, while August is 23.9 °C and 13.1 °C. These are mild numbers, not extreme heat, and the city has plenty of shade. The Myślęcinek park covers 830 ha and is described as the largest city park in Poland, so there is a lot of green space near the city.

What no one can give you from outside is a set of rules about glasses or sun protection after rhinoplasty. The service information contains no such instructions, and we will not invent them. If you wear glasses every day, or if you spend a lot of time in bright light, add this to the list for the online consultation. The doctor examines your nose, listens to your wishes and explains the course of the operation. You can ask exactly how your own daily habits fit into the recovery programme.

The 3D model helps with this kind of question as well. At the consultation the doctor builds a model of the future result and explains the course of your rhinoplasty. You can also send photos of your nose on Telegram or WhatsApp beforehand. The doctor then tells you whether rhinoplasty suits you at all, at no cost and with no commitment. If the answer is no, you will hear that directly. The service states plainly that if surgery is not needed in your case, the doctor will say so.

A note on the shape of the nose itself. The conditions that rhinoplasty addresses include a pronounced hump, a wide nasal bridge, a bulbous tip, asymmetric cartilage or nostrils, a deviated septum, a saddle nose, marked breathing problems, nasal polyps and the aftermath of a nose injury. Many people who wear glasses notice the nasal bridge more because that is where the frames rest. If that is part of your motivation, say so. It helps the doctor understand which part of the nose matters to you.

Fitting the splint and swelling around a Polish calendar

Poland has 14 public non-working days. They are 1 January, 6 January (Epiphany), Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 May, 3 May, Pentecost Sunday, Corpus Christi (the 9th Thursday after Easter), 15 August, 1 November, 11 November, 24 December (since 2025), and 25 and 26 December. For anyone planning a period when the face is not on show, this list is a practical tool. Several of those days cluster around the winter holidays and around early May, which means that some people in Bydgoszcz naturally have a few days off in a row.

There is an obvious temptation to plan the operation so that the splint comes off before a family occasion. Be careful with that thinking. The service text states that recovery times shown are typical averages for general guidance only. Your anatomy and individual features determine the real extent of correction and the real recovery. The doctor confirms details during the consultation. So the honest approach is to work backwards from a date that matters to you, leave a generous margin, and ask the doctor how much margin makes sense in your case. We will not promise that the swelling will be gone by a certain holiday.

Here is a way to use the calendar without over-promising. Suppose there is an important event in the spring of 2027, and you want the check-ups to happen at calm moments. The 7-day check, the 3-month check and the 6-month check are fixed milestones. Place the operation date so that the 7-day check does not collide with a public holiday, because holiday weeks can make it harder to arrange things. Your coordinator can help you book the follow-up visits. Two of the three coordinators in the process, the one who supports you before the consultation and the one who is with you through the stay, are there to remind you about tests and to explain each step of preparation.

Bydgoszcz itself keeps a busy cultural diary. About 100 cultural festivals and reviews take place in the city each year, although the source gives no months. The International Paderewski Piano Competition is held every three years. The city has about 35,000 students across 15 universities, among them Kazimierz Wielki University, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, the Medical College of Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Feliks Nowowiejski Music Academy. If you study or work around a university calendar, exam sessions and term breaks may matter more to you than public holidays. If you are a student in Bydgoszcz, term dates are likely your real constraint, and the coordinator can fit the preparation around them.

Finally, think about what "on show" means to you. For some people it is a job that involves meeting clients. For others it is a performance, a wedding, or simply the first day back at lectures. The age range matters too. The optimal age is 18 to 45, and under 18 is a contraindication. Tell the coordinator what the occasion is and when it falls, and they will help you turn that into a realistic plan.

Insurance, referrals and what the NFZ does not finance

Most residents of Bydgoszcz are used to the NFZ, the national health fund. The NFZ's own patient information states that services not listed in its catalogues are not financed by the NFZ, while within the listed range treatment is in most cases free for the insured patient. For an operation whose main aim is a change in appearance, the sensible assumption is that it falls outside what the fund pays for, and that a plan should not rely on it. If your main problem is a deviated septum and difficulty breathing, ask your NFZ doctor what is possible within the public system. The coordinators at City Medical Centre cannot decide that for you.

The NFZ also has a rule on waiting lists. For a given service, a patient may be entered on a waiting list with only one provider, and the original referral must be delivered within 14 working days of entering the list. This matters if you are weighing a public route for a breathing problem against a private operation. Be aware that it applies to services within the NFZ range. It does not change the fact that the online consultation with us is free and does not commit you to anything. Nothing in the process locks you in until you confirm the plan and the dates.

Poland's health insurance system is funded through a contribution from personal income, and patients who are not insured pay the full cost of services. That is background rather than advice. For an aesthetic nose operation, your insurance status does not change how the process works. What matters is the plan, which the doctor sets out at the consultation, and the contract that fixes it.

In practice, the steps are these. You send photos on WhatsApp or Telegram and receive a free doctor assessment. You see a 3D model of the future result. Once you decide, the date is reserved when the deposit is paid, and the terms are confirmed in the contract for medical services. Everything that the operation includes is described in that contract: the doctor's work, general anaesthesia, result modelling, the inpatient stay, meals, follow-up visits and dressings, coordinator support and consumables. Read the contract carefully, and ask your coordinator to explain anything unclear. The coordinators answer round the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram, so a question at any hour of a long winter evening will not wait until morning.

If you have had a previous nose operation, note that revision rhinoplasty is performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. If you are not sure which type fits, send photos and a short description. The doctor will tell you which group your case belongs to.

Does Bydgoszcz's damp winter air affect when I should plan rhinoplasty?

The city's humidity averages 80.3% a year and peaks at 90.5% in November and 89.3% in December, while January averages -3.7 °C at night. Those figures describe the climate, not healing, and the service gives no rule that links the operation to a season. What matters medically is that you have no inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes, because that is listed among the contraindications. Choose the date together with the doctor and the coordinator, and build the plan around the fixed steps: preparation starting 21 days before, one day in the inpatient unit, and check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.

I get a blocked nose in the rainy months. Can rhinoplasty help with breathing?

Primary rhinoplasty adjusts appearance and also improves breathing when airflow is restricted. If the septum is deviated, rhinoseptoplasty combines septum correction with a change in the outer shape of the nose. Marked breathing problems and a deviated septum are both on the list of conditions that rhinoplasty addresses. The doctor examines your nose and decides which operation fits. Send photos on Telegram or WhatsApp and describe when the blockage is worse. If surgery is not needed, you will be told so.

How do I plan around public holidays in Poland?

Poland has 14 public non-working days, including 1 and 6 January, Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 and 3 May, Pentecost Sunday, Corpus Christi, 15 August, 1 and 11 November, 24 December and the two days of Christmas. Count back from the date you want. The preparation begins 21 days before, and the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months should not fall in a week when arrangements are hard to make. Recovery times are typical averages only, so leave a margin and let the doctor confirm what is realistic for you. The coordinator can help book the follow-up visits.

I wear glasses every day. What should I ask at the consultation?

Ask the doctor how your daily routine, including glasses, fits into the recovery programme that you receive after the operation. The programme, not general advice, sets the limits. The consultation is online and free, and the doctor listens to your wishes, assesses the nose and explains the course of the operation. If a wide nasal bridge or a pronounced hump is part of what bothers you, mention it, since those features are among the ones that rhinoplasty addresses.

Will the NFZ pay for rhinoplasty?

The NFZ states that services not listed in its catalogues are not financed by it, while within the listed range treatment is in most cases free for the insured patient. An operation chosen for appearance should therefore not be planned on the assumption that the fund covers it. If you mainly struggle with breathing, discuss the public options with your NFZ doctor. For a given service you can be entered on a waiting list with only one provider, and the original referral must be delivered within 14 working days of entering the list. Our online consultation is free and does not commit you to anything.

I am a student in Bydgoszcz. How can I fit the operation around term time?

The city has about 35,000 students across 15 universities, so many people share this problem. Treat your term and exam calendar as the fixed frame. Then place the preparation, which starts 21 days before, the one day in the inpatient unit, and the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months around it. The optimal age for the operation is 18 to 45, and under 18 is a contraindication. The coordinators answer round the clock, so you can ask in the evening after lectures and get a plan before you commit.

What can I do in the city during the first weeks while the nose is healing?

The recovery programme you receive after the operation sets what is allowed, and the coordinator will answer questions as you go. For ordinary outings, Bydgoszcz offers Mill Island in the centre, where the Brda was dammed and the Młynówka flows around it, and the 830 ha Myślęcinek park. Whether a given walk or outing is suitable on a given day is something to ask the coordinator rather than assume. A coloured splint, in one of eight colours, is an optional detail that some patients like to choose.

Which tests do I need before the operation, and when do I start?

Preparation should begin 21 days before rhinoplasty. The tests include a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. At the first appointment the doctor provides the full list of what is required. Your coordinator explains each step of preparation and reminds you about tests and check-ups, which is useful if the 21 days overlap with a busy period in the city's calendar.
