Surgery will not suit everybody

If your case can be solved without surgery, the doctor says so right at the consultation — and you keep your money. Below are the conditions in which a transplant really works.

A man with thinning hair at a consultation: a case where a hair transplant helps

Good reasons to go ahead

  • Androgenetic or diffuse alopecia
  • A receding hairline
  • A high hairline
  • Insufficient hair density
  • Genetic traits of hair growth
  • Damage caused by a burn or injury
  • Hair loss from illness
  • Shedding due to a hormonal imbalance

Cannot tell which side you fall?

Your number is enough. A coordinator asks for photos in a messenger, the doctor says whether a transplant helps. Free, nothing booked.

Beard transplant

Grafts are taken from the donor area at the back of the head and moved through micro-punctures of about 1 mm, so no scars are left. I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Common questions

We tell what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes, absolutely. City Medical Centre accepts anyone, whichever city or country they call home, and consultation online is possible before committing.

The base prices are $2,200 (≈ PLN 8,600) (FUE), $2,500 (≈ PLN 9,800) (DHI) and $2,700 (≈ PLN 11,000) (combined). The precise cost is determined at a free consultation and graft count, then fixed in your contract.

The operation takes a day, and patients sleep at home after.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

Nothing sharp is felt — local anaesthesia blocks all sensation.

In FUE, grafts are harvested with a tweezer, no cuts or stitches involved. In DHI, a Choi pen implants grafts without opening channels first. The combined method pairs FUE harvesting with DHI implantation.

Nobody can guess it in advance; the doctor counts them at a free appointment based on your donor reserve.

Roughly 0–10 days for healing, then a normal shedding of transplanted hairs at 2–4 weeks. Growth appears around 3–4 months, becomes noticeable across 6–9 months, and completes at 12–18 months.

A contract-backed, lifetime guarantee of hair growth comes with every procedure.

The procedure, the start and the result for Bydgoszcz

For a patient in Bydgoszcz the practical picture is short: FUE and DHI, no cutting, no suturing, local anaesthesia and one working day. The operation does not run over into a second day or into a course of treatment.

A patient in Bydgoszcz starts with photos, not with a trip: the free online consultation lets the doctor see the thinning area and count the grafts. Every day the clinic is available 24/7, so questions are answered without waiting for morning.

After the operation: 0-10 days to heal, 2-4 weeks until the transplanted hairs shed, which is a normal phase, 3-4 months to the start of growth, 6-9 to real density and 12-18 to the final result. Check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, photos with a personal coordinator, lifetime growth guarantee.

Page medically reviewed by Anastasia A. Kolesnik, hair transplant doctor. Review date: .

Cold, damp winters and a scalp that is healing

In Bydgoszcz the coldest stretch of the year runs from December to February. The 1991-2020 normals show a January mean maximum of 1.1 °C and a mean minimum of -3.7 °C. February averages 2.7 °C by day and -3.0 °C at night, and December 2.0 °C and -2.4 °C. For someone planning a hair transplant, these numbers matter less as "cold" than as a question of what you put on your head every morning. In a Dfb climate a hat is a daily habit from late autumn, so the real planning question is how a hat sits on a scalp that has just been treated.

The first stage of recovery is short. According to the CMC timeline, the first 0-10 days are the healing phase: crusts fall away, swelling subsides, and the treated area slowly recovers. Over that window, a tight knitted cap pulled down over the recipient zone is a poor idea, and the same goes for the donor area at the back of the head. The clinic gives every patient advice on washing the hair, on sleep and on headwear, and the doctor will explain during the consultation what is acceptable in your case. Bring up your winter routine then: how you commute, whether you wear a hood or a helmet, and how long you spend outside.

Humidity is the second local factor. Relative humidity in the city averages 80.3% over the year and peaks in November (90.5%) and December (89.3%). Damp, cold air does not change how grafts grow, and nothing in the medical material suggests it does. It does change how comfortable the first days feel. Wet wool, a scarf that rubs, and a hood that holds condensation are all things to think about in advance. Soft, loose headwear that you have already tried on before the day of the procedure is a sensible thing to have ready, and your coordinator can go through the list with you on WhatsApp or Telegram.

Many people also ask whether a deep-winter operation is "worse" than a summer one. The medical text we work from gives no seasonal ranking of results, and the doctor will not promise one. What can be said is that the season changes your daily conditions, not the biology of the follicles. If your winter is busy and you cannot avoid long hours outdoors, discuss that openly during the free online consultation.

Sun, wind and the wet summer: protecting new growth

Summers here are mild rather than hot. The July mean maximum is 24.6 °C with a mean minimum of 13.7 °C, and August is close behind at 23.9 °C and 13.1 °C. Yearly averages are 12.9 °C for the maximum and 4.6 °C for the minimum. At those temperatures a lightweight cap is comfortable, and a bare head in strong light is the bigger concern during recovery. The Polish-language city article also quotes 1,509 hours of sunshine a year, without stating the period, so treat it as a rough guide to how bright the average year is rather than as a precise measurement.

The city has plenty of places where sun exposure is easy to underestimate. Myslecinek covers 830 ha and is described as the largest city park in Poland. The Brda runs for about 28 km through the built-up area, and the Bydgoszcz Canal crosses the western part for about 6.5 km. Mill Island sits in the centre because the Brda was dammed there, with the Mlynowka river around it. Open water, embankments and park paths mean long walks with little shade, and a walk by the river on a bright afternoon is exactly the situation in which a patient forgets the scalp is still recovering. Wind off open ground can also dry the skin and lift a light cap. Ask the doctor which headwear is suitable at which stage, rather than copying advice from a friend who had a different procedure.

Summer is not only about sun. July is also the wettest month, with 83.4 mm of precipitation, followed by June (56.7 mm) and August (55.6 mm). Over the year the city sees 532.3 mm on 158.4 days with at least 0.1 mm. A sudden shower is a practical issue during the washing-and-care period, because the instructions you receive cover how and when to wash. Carry a clean cap, a spare and a small umbrella so that you are not improvising in the rain.

One more point concerns the shedding stage. The transplanted hairs fall out between 2 and 4 weeks after the procedure. This is a normal stage; only the hairs shed, and the follicles stay in place. In bright summer light, with a short haircut and little cover, shedding may be more noticeable. A patient who has a wedding, a graduation or a long outdoor event in that window should plan around it. Describe your summer calendar to the coordinator, and the doctor can tell you how the stages are likely to line up.

Counting the growth months against the Polish calendar

The timeline in the CMC material is simple. From 0 to 10 days comes healing. Shedding follows at 2-4 weeks. The first growth appears at 3-4 months, density shows at 6-9 months, and the final result arrives at 12-18 months. Follow-up visits are scheduled at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. These stages are the same for every patient; what differs is where they fall in your year.

Here is an example. Say the procedure takes place on 16 November 2026. The healing phase then covers the second half of that month, and shedding falls in December, with an interruption from the 24-26 December public holidays. The first new growth would appear between mid-February and mid-March 2027. Density would show between mid-May and mid-August 2027, and the final outcome would come between November 2027 and May 2028. Every date there is an illustration, not a forecast for you, since the doctor sets the real timetable.

Poland has 14 public non-working days, and several matter for planning: 1 January, 6 January (Epiphany), Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 May, 3 May, Pentecost Sunday, Corpus Christi, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November, 24 December (since 2025), and 25 and 26 December. A follow-up that falls on one of those dates is not a problem, because the coordinators answer around the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram and photo progress can be tracked remotely. The holidays matter for your own life instead. Time off work, long weekends, and family gatherings are the occasions when you may not want to explain visible crusts or a shaved donor area.

A useful way to plan is to work backwards from the date when you would like the result to be visible. If you want a noticeably denser look for an event in summer 2027, do the sums honestly. The 6-9 month mark is when density shows, and the 12-18 month mark is when the final outcome appears. Also be realistic about the in-between months, since the stretch from shedding to first growth is the one that tests patience. The doctor and coordinator would rather help you pick a date that works than rush you.

Dry spring months, damp autumn and choosing your season

Looking at the climate table, the driest months are February (26.3 mm) and April (28.2 mm), and May has the lowest relative humidity of the year at 69.7%. Autumn goes the opposite way: November is the most humid month at 90.5%. None of this decides whether you can have the procedure in a given month. It does shape your comfort. Spring offers mild air, moderate light and little rain, which makes it easy to wear a light cap and to keep a regular care routine outdoors. Autumn brings darkness earlier, damp air and heavier headwear, so you need a softer cap than a standard winter one.

Another approach is to choose by how much you can control your schedule. The city has about 35,000 students at 15 universities, among them Kazimierz Wielki University, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology and the Medical College of Nicolaus Copernicus University. If you study or teach, the academic year has a rhythm of exam sessions and breaks, and the quiet weeks between them may suit the first days of recovery. If you work in an office, a period with fewer meetings suits better. If you work outdoors or in a physical job, the doctor will want to hear about it, because the plan for returning to sport and hair care is part of what the clinic provides.

The city also holds about 100 cultural festivals and reviews each year, though the source does not say in which months. The International Paderewski Piano Competition takes place every three years. If you are attending a particular event, whether performing in it or sitting in the audience, tell your coordinator the date so it can be placed on the recovery calendar. A crowded indoor event in the first days, with warm air and close contact, is a different situation from a quiet week at home.

The elevation of the city is 60 m, so there is no mountain weather to consider. The yearly pattern is steady and moderate, with a cold-damp winter, a bright and moderately warm summer, and a wide window in spring and early summer. There is no single "right" month. What matters is that the 12-18 month horizon is long enough that the first season will pass anyway, and you will experience at least one full cycle of weather with your recovering scalp.

Preparing from home: the online consultation, suitability and insurance questions

You do not have to leave Bydgoszcz to begin. The first step is to send photos of the frontal area, crown and donor zone on WhatsApp or Telegram, and the free online consultation follows, with a reply within 15 minutes. The doctor looks at your donor area, counts the grafts and shows what is achievable. Cases in the CMC material range from about 2,500 to 4,000 grafts, all by FUE, but your own number comes only after the assessment. The final price is named by the doctor and fixed in the contract, and nothing is booked until you confirm the plan and dates.

A transplant does not suit everyone. It helps with androgenetic or diffuse alopecia, bald patches, a receding frontal edge of the hair, a high forehead line, thin density, the effects of an injury or burn, and some forms of hair loss that follow illness or hormonal imbalance. The listed contraindications include trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, being under 18, intolerance to anaesthetics, epilepsy, serious heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, a pacemaker, AIDS/HIV, hepatitis B/C, pulmonary embolism and patchy alopecia. Some people turn out to have a case that can be handled without surgery, and the doctor says so at the consultation.

The methods differ in technique. FUE uses forceps with no incisions or stitches. DHI uses a Choi implanter pen and no sutures, and a combined protocol extracts by FUE and implants by DHI. The doctor will recommend one according to your situation, and the figures for graft survival are averages given as a guide, not individual forecasts.

Questions about health coverage come up as well. In the Polish system, NFZ finances only what is listed in its list of publicly funded services, and anything outside them is not financed. Contributions to health insurance are 9% of personal income. If you want to know how your own coverage relates to this procedure, ask your insurer or NFZ directly instead of assuming. The CMC coordinators can explain the medical side and the contract, but they will not interpret your personal entitlements.

Finally, the pre-operation steps are practical: you complete a set of pre-surgery tests from the list and instructions the clinic provides, and local anaesthesia is used on the day. The stay is one day at the clinic. Coordinators are available 24/7, and follow-up is tracked by photo as well as at the 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 month visits, which means you can keep in touch from home through the whole recovery.

Which months in Bydgoszcz are the most comfortable for wearing headwear during recovery?

Based on the local normals, late spring and early summer are the gentlest. May has the lowest relative humidity of the year (69.7%), April and February are the driest months, and July temperatures average a maximum of 24.6 °C. Winter calls for warmer but still loose headwear, since January averages 1.1 °C by day and -3.7 °C at night. The doctor will say which type of cap is suitable at each stage.

Does the damp November and December air affect how the grafts grow?

The material we work from does not link humidity to graft growth. Relative humidity in Bydgoszcz peaks at 90.5% in November and 89.3% in December, which mostly affects comfort: wet scarves, hoods and caps are unpleasant on a healing scalp. Plan soft, clean spare headwear, and follow the washing and sleep advice given by the clinic.

If the procedure is in mid-November 2026, when will I see the first new hair?

As an illustration only, an operation on 16 November 2026 would put the shedding of transplanted hairs in December, and first growth between mid-February and mid-March 2027. Density would appear from mid-May to mid-August 2027, and the final result between November 2027 and May 2028. The doctor sets your actual timetable.

Do Polish public holidays interfere with follow-up?

Poland has 14 public non-working days, including 1 and 11 November, 24-26 December, 1 and 6 January, Easter, 1 and 3 May, Pentecost, Corpus Christi and 15 August. Coordinators answer round the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram, so progress can be tracked by photo on those days too. The holidays matter mostly for your own time off and social plans.

Is strong sun a concern during the summer months in Bydgoszcz?

The city has long open spaces, such as the 830 ha Myslecinek park and the embankments of the Brda, with little shade on a bright day. The Polish city article gives 1,509 hours of sunshine a year, though the period is not stated. During recovery, ask the doctor about headwear and sun exposure for each stage rather than relying on general advice.

Can students or office workers in Bydgoszcz fit the 12-18 months around study and work?

Yes, because the schedule is built from stages rather than constant visits. The healing phase is 0-10 days, with follow-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and between those points you keep in touch with your coordinator. About 35,000 students live in the city, and quieter weeks between exam periods may suit the first days.

Does NFZ finance a hair transplant?

NFZ finances only services that appear in its list of publicly funded services, and services not listed there are not financed. For your own entitlement, ask NFZ or your insurer directly. The CMC coordinators can describe the procedure and contract, but cannot confirm personal coverage.

Can I start the process from home in Bydgoszcz?

Yes. Send photos on WhatsApp or Telegram, and the free online consultation follows with a reply within 15 minutes. The doctor assesses your donor area, counts the grafts and says whether a transplant helps you at all. No surgery date is booked until you confirm the plan.
