The German YouTuber Julian Claßen, known to millions from his channel and his years as half of one of Germany’s best-known YouTube couples, told his followers in advance that he planned a hair transplant. What did Julian Claßen say about his hair transplant?
A few weeks before the procedure Julian Claßen had told his followers that he wanted a hair transplant. At the end of August 2024 the day came, and he posted from the clinic while getting ready. The German celebrity site Promiflash quoted his Instagram story: “Something of a small dream is really coming true for me right now.”

WhatsAppAccording to the report, hair was taken from the back of his head and placed at the forehead and in the receding corners of the hairline. Straight after the procedure he showed his followers the result: a thin strip of fresh graft sites along the front, with several plasters at the sides. He described it calmly: “It definitely doesn’t hurt, everything is fine. You drive yourself crazier beforehand, I really could have spared myself that.” The report adds that a further session followed the next day.
That is all this article relies on. Julian Claßen did not name the clinic, the doctor, the technique or the number of grafts in these posts, so we do not guess at them. Where the text below explains methods and timelines, it describes hair transplantation in general, not his treatment.
Why his openness matters
For many men a receding hairline is a quiet worry that they would rather not talk about. Julian Claßen did the opposite: he announced the plan, showed the day of the procedure and described his nerves honestly. His comment that the worry beforehand was worse than the procedure itself is something many patients say afterwards.

His case also shows a typical pattern. The areas he named, the temples and the front of the hairline, are where hair loss in men usually starts. A transplant does not stop that process; it moves hair that is resistant to it from the back of the head to where it has thinned.

How a hair transplant works today
A modern hair transplant is an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia. Follicles are taken one by one from the donor area at the back of the head and implanted where hair is missing. The main techniques are:
- FUE: grafts are extracted individually and placed with forceps into channels prepared by the surgeon. No incisions and no stitches.
- DHI: grafts are implanted with a special pen (Choi implanter) without pre-made channels, which gives close control over angle and direction.
- Combined DHI+FUE: FUE extraction with DHI implantation, used for the hairline and for adding density.

Which technique fits depends on the extent of hair loss and on the donor area, so the choice is made at a consultation, not from someone else’s Instagram story.
Who is a good candidate
A transplant works best when the donor area is dense enough and the hair loss has a clear pattern. Typical reasons are a receding hairline and temples, thinning at the crown, androgenetic or diffuse alopecia, and hair loss after an injury or a burn. There are also contraindications: patchy (focal) alopecia, age under 18, trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer and insufficient donor density. The doctor checks these before a date is booked.
- Be clear about your goal, for example a stronger hairline or more density at the crown.
- Mention medicines and chronic conditions, so the doctor can plan the anaesthesia and healing.
- Plan time off: the first ten days are for healing, with simple rules on washing, sleeping and headwear.
What results look like over time
The patient goes home on the same day. The scalp heals over the first 0–10 days as crusts come off and swelling goes down. In weeks 2–4 the transplanted hairs fall out; this is expected, the follicles stay in place. New growth starts after 3–4 months, density becomes clearly visible at 6–9 months, and the final result is judged at 12–18 months.
Anyone following Julian Claßen’s story should keep that timeline in mind: the day of the procedure is the beginning, not the result.

How the result of a hair transplant usually develops
- Day of the procedureLocal anaesthesia; grafts are taken and implanted; home the same day.
- Days 0–10Healing: crusts come off and swelling goes down.
- Weeks 2–4Transplanted hairs fall out, an expected stage; the follicles stay in place.
- Months 3–4New hairs start to grow.
- Months 6–9Density becomes clearly visible.
- Months 12–18Final result: final density and a natural hairline.
