FUE Hair Transplant

FUE (follicular unit extraction) is a transplant method in which individual grafts are moved from the donor zone at the back of the head into thinning areas through micro-punctures. There are no incisions or stitches, everything is done under local anaesthesia in a single day, and the price starts at $2,200.

What the FUE method is

FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. The surgeon harvests grafts, tiny units of tissue that hold one or several living follicles, one by one from the donor zone, then places them into the areas where hair has thinned. Because each graft is taken through a micro-puncture rather than a cut, the skin closes on its own and no stitches are needed.

At our medical centre FUE is performed as an outpatient procedure: you arrive, the operation is done under local anaesthesia, and you go home the same day.

Who FUE suits, and who it does not

The method works when hair loss follows a stable pattern and the donor zone at the back of the head stays dense. In that case the moved follicles keep their resistance to further shedding and continue to grow in the new place.

A transplant is not the answer while loss is still active and spreading, or when the cause, for example a hormonal or inflammatory condition, has not been treated. There are also general contraindications to surgery. Whether the operation makes sense for you is decided by the doctor at the consultation, after examining the scalp.

How an FUE transplant is performed

The first consultation is free and can be held online. The doctor studies the scalp, counts how many grafts the thinning areas need, draws the future hairline and fixes the price in the contract before the operation.

On the day of surgery the operating area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so you stay comfortable throughout. Grafts are harvested from the donor zone and implanted into prepared openings in the balding areas. How many grafts are moved is always an individual decision; the exact number comes from the consultation, not from a price list.

Recovery after FUE, stage by stage

FUE or DHI: what is the difference

In DHI each graft is loaded into a Choi implanter pen and inserted directly into the scalp; the pen both cuts the opening and places the graft in one movement, which gives fine control over angle and direction. That is why DHI is often picked for the hairline and temples. FUE with prepared openings is faster and suits broader coverage. The two can also be combined: grafts are extracted by FUE and implanted by DHI, which is considered when a patient needs both wide coverage and a precisely designed hairline. Which approach fits your case is decided at the consultation.

What FUE costs and how to start

FUE starts at $2,200, DHI at $2,500 and the combined DHI+FUE at $2,700. Each price covers dressings, healing check-ups, a care plan and follow-up appointments at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The exact amount depends on the number of grafts and is confirmed at the free consultation, then written into the contract. I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Frequently asked questions

Is an FUE transplant painful?

The operation is done under local anaesthesia: the doctor numbs the operating area so you stay comfortable throughout the day.

How much does FUE cost?

From $2,200. The final amount depends on how many grafts your case needs; the doctor names it at the free consultation and it is fixed in the contract.

When will I see new hair?

Transplanted hairs shed between weeks 2 and 4, which is normal. New growth starts at months 3–4, visible density appears at months 6–9, and the result is complete at 12–18 months.

Will FUE leave a scar?

Grafts are taken through micro-punctures without incisions or stitches, so there is no linear scar. The doctor shows you what to expect from your own donor zone at the consultation.

How many grafts will I need?

It depends on the size of the thinning areas and the density of your donor zone. The number is counted for you personally at the free consultation.

Can FUE be combined with DHI?

Yes. In the combined technique grafts are extracted by FUE and implanted with the DHI pen. It is considered when broad coverage and a precisely drawn hairline are both needed.
