Women can have a hair transplant, but the indication is stricter than for men: thinning must follow a stable pattern and the donor zone must stay dense. When these conditions hold, a transplant restores density with prices starting from $2,200; when they do not, conservative treatment comes first.

Why women lose hair and when a transplant helps
Hair loss in women usually spreads across the whole scalp rather than receding in one zone, which doctors call diffuse thinning. The causes differ: female pattern hair loss, iron or thyroid problems, the period after childbirth, stress or medication. A transplant moves follicles into areas where hair has permanently thinned, so it works only when the thinning has settled into a stable pattern and the cause is under control.
If hair is falling out evenly everywhere or the cause is still active, transplanted grafts would be surrounded by hair that keeps shedding, and the result would not last. That is why diagnosis comes first, not surgery.
Tests before deciding on a transplant
At our centre the doctor examines the scalp, checks the donor zone and reviews tests before recommending anything. Typical checks look at ferritin and other iron markers, thyroid hormones and vitamin D, because a deficiency can drive shedding on its own. When a deficiency or a hormonal cause is found, treatment starts there, and a transplant is discussed only once the loss has stabilised.
This order protects you from paying for an operation that the natural course of hair loss would undo.
Who is a candidate and who is not
A transplant is realistic when the pattern is stable, for example in female pattern hair loss with thinning along the part line, and the back of the head remains dense. It is also considered for local scars from injuries or previous surgery.
A transplant is not the tool while shedding is still active and widespread, during untreated thyroid or iron deficiency states, or when general contraindications to surgery apply. Age alone does not decide it in either direction: the doctor judges each case at the consultation, and the decision is always individual.
How the operation runs for women
The technique is the same as for men: grafts are moved from the donor zone into the thinning areas by FUE, DHI or a combination of both. The first consultation is free and can be online; the doctor counts the grafts, draws the plan and fixes the price in the contract.
Most women ask about shaving. The donor area does need trimming, but with longer hair a trimmed section can usually be hidden under the surrounding hair; how much needs trimming depends on the method and the number of grafts, and the doctor tells you in advance so you can plan around it.
Recovery and realistic results
Days 0–10. The skin heals; crusts come away and swelling settles.
Weeks 2–4. The transplanted hairs shed, which is an expected phase; the follicles stay.
Months 3–4. New growth appears.
Months 6–9. Density builds up and the part line looks fuller.
12–18 months. The final density is assessed, usually at around a year.
A transplant adds density where follicles are gone; it does not stop future shedding elsewhere. Supporting treatment may still be recommended after the operation, and the doctor sets that plan with you.
Price and first step
Transplants for women start from $2,200 (DHI from $2,500), and the quote covers dressings, healing check-ups, a care plan and follow-up visits at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The exact figure depends on the graft count and is fixed in the contract after the free consultation. Coordinators answer in Telegram and WhatsApp around the clock; send a photo of your scalp and the doctor will tell you what the first diagnostic step should be.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories.
I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned.
But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time.
All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍
The result is definitely worth it!

Frequently asked questions
Can women have a hair transplant at all?
Yes, when thinning follows a stable pattern and the donor zone at the back stays dense. If hair sheds evenly all over the scalp or the cause is still active, a transplant is unlikely to hold, and conservative treatment comes first.
Do I need to shave my head?
Usually not completely. The donor area is trimmed, and with longer hair the trimmed section can often be hidden. How much needs trimming depends on the method and graft count; the doctor explains it in advance.
What tests are needed before the operation?
The doctor reviews tests that look at ferritin and other iron markers, thyroid hormones and vitamin D, since deficiencies alone can drive shedding. The exact list is set at the consultation.
How much does a transplant cost for women?
From $2,200; DHI starts at $2,500. The exact price depends on the number of grafts and is fixed in the contract after the free consultation.
When will I see the result?
Shedding of the transplanted hairs in weeks 2–4 is normal, new growth starts at months 3–4, and the final density is assessed at around 12 months.
Will a transplant stop further hair loss?
No. It adds density where follicles are lost. Shedding elsewhere can continue, so the doctor may recommend supporting treatment after the operation.
