What to expect
An agreed plan of correction, time under inpatient observation, and a year of recovery monitoring.

The doctor examines your nose, talks through your wishes and runs the checks needed to choose the best correction technique

A surgery date is reserved for you: you can pay the deposit by card at the clinic or by bank transfer online. These terms are set out in the contract for medical services

Before surgery you need a full set of lab tests: complete blood count, biochemistry, coagulation panel, chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses

The surgeon performs rhinoplasty with the chosen technique under general or local anaesthesia, correcting the shape and structure of the nose

The clinic's inpatient unit is where all procedures are performed. You stay for one day post-surgery

After the operation you receive a recovery programme; check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months help monitor your recovery, and surgeon consultations remain free for a year afterwards.
At the consultation, you'll be shown a realistic forecast of the outcome

The consultation costs nothing, takes place before surgery and carries no commitment.

FAQ
Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.
Yes. Nose job is the everyday name for rhinoplasty, plastic surgery of the nose. The surgeon can change its shape and, with rhinoseptoplasty, also correct a deviated septum to make breathing easier.

The optimal age is from 18 to 45, when the nose is fully developed and tissues heal well. With medical indications, an older patient can have surgery if general health permits
At its core, rhinoplasty is a comprehensive solution. It corrects both congenital and acquired nasal deformities, for example after a nasal injury. Patients are often bothered by a dorsal hump or an overly wide nose. Nose correction can also target the tip (tip rhinoplasty) or the nostrils (alar rhinoplasty). The surgical plan is created individually for each patient, taking every feature of their nose into account.
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on complexity, takes 1.5 to 3 hours.
The surgeon determines the extent and course of the surgery at the consultation, based on your goals and the anatomy of your nose.
Rhinoplasty — surgery to change the appearance of the nose (an aesthetic goal) and improve its function if breathing is impaired.
Septoplasty — surgical correction of the septum for normal breathing, with the external contour of the nose left as it is.
Often both surgeries are combined, especially when a patient has a deviated septum and aesthetic concerns. This gives a harmonious look and restores full breathing. At City Medical Centre we perform rhinoseptoplasty — a combined surgery that solves both tasks at once
For a successful operation, preparation should begin 21 days before rhinoplasty. At the first appointment our plastic surgeon will give you a list of the required tests.

Preparation consists of plastic surgeon consultations, lab tests (CBC, biochemistry, coagulation, infection tests), ECG, chest X-ray, and a nasal X-ray or CT. One week before surgery, stop anticoagulants, alcohol and smoking. On the day before, eat light meals; fast for 6 hours before surgery
Although nose surgery is one of the most popular and well-established aesthetic operations, like any surgery it carries certain risks. To minimise the likelihood of complications after rhinoplasty, our clinic provides thorough pre-operative preparation and post-operative monitoring.
Important: if after rhinoplasty you have difficulty breathing, severe pain, a high temperature or a change in the shape of your nose, contact your doctor immediately.
Rhinoplasty at City Medical Centre is performed with modern technology, safe materials and constant medical supervision, which keeps the risk of complications to a minimum.
We also provide post-operative monitoring and prescribe recovery therapy.
Recovery after nose surgery is just as important as the operation itself. Proper recovery determines how aesthetic and harmonious the final result will be. At City Medical Centre recovery is closely monitored and divided into three phases: early, intermediate and late
Improvements begin to show after swelling subsides (2–3 weeks), but it takes 1–1.5 years to judge the final rhinoplasty result, when tissues fully stabilise
The nose needs to be protected after surgery. An aluminium cast is placed over the nose, with special silicone splints inside the nasal cavity. Nasal function is limited in the first days but recovers quickly. The final result of rhinoplasty can be assessed after 1–1.5 years, once the swelling has fully subsided.
Important: if nasal function is impaired after the first operation or you are not satisfied with the result, revision (secondary) rhinoplasty may be needed. It is a more complex procedure, performed no earlier than one year after the primary operation.
Early after surgery the nasal passages may be partially blocked by splints or swelling. Full breathing typically comes back within 1–2 weeks, depending on the extent of surgery and your body
Our doctors use microsurgical techniques and quality sutures to keep scars minimal
Rhinoplasty improves aesthetics and makes facial features more harmonious, without loss of individuality. With 3D modelling the predicted result is visible in advance, and you agree on changes with your surgeon
Rhinoplasty is a serious step. A well-performed rhinoplasty means the new nose is in perfect harmony with your facial features and works flawlessly. At the consultation the nasal surgeon assesses every parameter in detail: the size of the nose, tip projection, and the condition of the septum and nasal mucosa. We use 3D modelling so you can see the future proportions of your nose before the surgery is performed.
Don't just browse rhinoplasty photos online. Book a consultation to discuss what modern rhinoplasty can and cannot do for you. Correcting external nasal deformities and reshaping the nose is our speciality.
The cost varies with the extent of surgery and is finalised at the consultation: the doctor examines your nose and facial proportions, then names the exact price.

Rhinoplasty, or nose job, reshapes the nose to fit the individual proportions of the face. It corrects congenital and acquired deformities, including changes after a nasal injury. Patients from Utrecht most often ask about removing a dorsal hump, narrowing an overly wide nose, refining the tip or correcting the nostrils. Every surgery plan is created individually, taking into account all features of the nose.
Safety depends on each step. Full diagnostics include tests, CT, ECG and exams by the surgeon and anaesthetist. After surgery, do not remove dressings or splints yourself, press on your nose, wear glasses or sleep face down. Regular follow-up visits catch small deviations early. People from Utrecht are advised to contact the doctor right away in case of severe pain, fever or breathing difficulty.
Rhinoplasty is priced at $4,200 (≈ €3,750) whatever the technique. That sum brings together surgery under general anaesthesia, one day of inpatient care, doctor monitoring and post-op visits with dressings. The plastic surgeon confirms the exact cost during a free first consultation, after examining your nose. To arrange yours, patients from Utrecht send a request or write to a coordinator in a messenger.

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.
Rhinoplasty
Page medically reviewed by Marina T. Pershikova, rhinoplasty surgeon. Review date: .
Utrecht lies about 5 m above sea level, around the curved Oudegracht canal and the old bed of the Rhine. Moisture is part of the climate here. Relative humidity averages 82% over the year and reaches 89% in November and December. Annual precipitation is 849.7 mm on 131 days with at least 1 mm of rain, and the wettest months are July (84.8 mm), December (83.4 mm) and August (83.1 mm). If you are considering a nose operation, these figures are a reason to think about breathing as well as shape, not only the profile in the mirror.
A primary rhinoplasty adjusts appearance and also improves breathing when airflow is restricted. A deviated septum, marked breathing problems and an earlier nose injury are all on the list of situations where rhinoplasty addresses the problem. If you notice that one side of the nose is often harder to breathe through, mention it in your first message to the coordinator. The doctor will ask about it during the online consultation and decide whether the plan should include the septum. In that case the operation is called rhinoseptoplasty, a combined procedure that corrects the septum and changes the shape of the nose.
The colder months matter for another reason. January has a mean maximum of 6.1 °C and a mean minimum of 0.9 °C, February 7.0 °C and 0.7 °C, December 6.7 °C and 1.6 °C, and there are about 25 snow days a year. Cold, wet weeks are when many people have nasal inflammation. Inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes is listed among the reasons rhinoplasty is not suitable at that moment. This does not mean you should wait for a perfect season. It means you should tell the coordinator honestly if you currently have a cold or a sore throat, so the doctor can account for it when dates are discussed.
Think about photographs too. Sunshine in Utrecht totals 1,714.6 hours a year, but December receives only 55.5 hours and January 66.6, against 213.9 in July. In winter, take the photos for the free assessment next to a window in daylight rather than under a ceiling lamp, and send the front view, both sides and a view from below. Photos with even light let the doctor judge the bridge, tip and nostrils more reliably before the 3D model is made.
Anyone living in the Netherlands has a basic health insurance, so it is natural to wonder whether it pays for nose surgery. According to Zorginstituut Nederland, plastic surgery is covered by the basic package only when there is a medical reason. That means a functional impairment, a directly visible disfigurement caused by an accident, illness or treatment, or certain congenital conditions. Surgery done only to improve appearance is not covered, and neither is surgery for psychological or social reasons. Be realistic about this before you start planning.
This rule is why the wording of your request matters. If your main concern is the shape of the nose, expect that the insurer will treat the operation as aesthetic. If breathing is genuinely restricted, for example with a deviated septum, the situation can be different, but the decision belongs to the insurer, not to the clinic or to us. The doctor can describe what he or she finds during the consultation and which operation is suggested, and you can bring that description to your insurer.
Two practical points from the same Zorginstituut text are worth knowing. First, where plastic surgery is covered there is no co-payment, but the costs count towards the mandatory annual deductible (eigen risico). Second, some insurers ask for prior approval, called a machtiging, before the treatment takes place. If you intend to ask for coverage, ask your insurer about this step first and do not assume it. Our coordinators can explain what the clinic provides in writing, such as the plan and the contract, but they cannot promise a decision on the insurer's side.
None of this affects the first step. The first online consultation is free and carries no commitment, so you can learn what the doctor recommends and whether a septum is involved before deciding anything about insurance.
In Utrecht, 51% of journeys within the city are made by bicycle, more than by any other mode, and the bicycle parking station beside Central Station holds 12,500 bicycles. For a patient here, the practical question about recovery is often simple: when can I get back on the bike, and what should I do until then? We have no figure for that in our medical material, because recovery depends on your anatomy and on the operation chosen. Write the question down and ask the doctor directly at the consultation. The doctor can answer it for your own case and tell you what to avoid.
The same applies to sport. SV Kampong has 4,500 members and is described as the largest amateur sports club in the Netherlands, and plenty of people in Utrecht play team sports or run along the canals. If you are among them, ask which activities need a break after rhinoplasty and what the recovery programme says about returning to them. The clinic gives every patient a recovery programme after the operation, and check-ups take place at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. Consultations with the doctor stay free for a year afterwards, so you do not have to remember everything on the first day.
Weather is part of the plan as well. With rain on 131 days a year and about 25 snow days, a ride to work or to a lecture can be wet, slippery and busy. Think ahead about how you will manage the first period: who can collect shopping, whether work or study can be done from home, and whether a different route or mode of transport is possible for a while. These are questions for you and your coordinator, not medical rules, but they make recovery calmer.
Then there is the splint. After the operation the nose carries a nasal splint, and the clinic lets you choose its colour: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry or carbon. It is a small detail, but it lets you plan how you want to look while you are at home. When you are cycling through a bright winter morning is a question for the doctor, but choosing a splint colour you like is something you can settle in advance.
Utrecht has a busy cultural year. The Netherlands Film Festival is held here every year in September and October; the 2025 edition ran from 26 September to 3 October. Le Guess Who? fills venues across the city for four days in mid-November. Dutch public holidays add other dates: King's Day on 27 April, Liberation Day on 5 May, Ascension, Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, and 25 and 26 December. If you want to feel at ease when your face is on show, put those dates in a calendar before you choose a date for surgery.
Here is an example of working backwards. Suppose you would like to be settled by King's Day on 27 April 2027. Start the conversation with the coordinator well before that, because preparation for the operation begins 21 days before rhinoplasty and includes tests: a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. After the consultation the date is reserved once the deposit is paid and the terms are confirmed in the contract for medical services. The doctor then explains how your own recovery is likely to go, since the times shown for each operation are typical averages for general guidance only.
The operation itself is a single day in the clinic. Rhinoplasty takes 1.5 to 3 hours depending on complexity, under general anaesthesia, and you stay in the inpatient unit for one day. We do not give a number of days until swelling goes down, because that depends on the individual person and on the technique. Instead, ask the doctor at the online consultation to describe what is realistic for you, and plan event dates with some margin rather than for the earliest day.
Revision operations have their own rule. A revision rhinoplasty, which corrects the result of an earlier nose operation, is performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. If you already had a nose operation and are thinking about a second, count that year first and then choose a quiet period on the calendar.
Utrecht had 378,140 inhabitants on 1 January 2026, and the municipality expects about 400,000 by 2030 and 488,000 by 2045. The urban area counts 489,734 people and the metropolitan area 656,342. About 67,000 students study in the city, Utrecht University is the largest university in the Netherlands, and Hogeschool Utrecht has about 37,000 students. Many readers of this text are therefore in their twenties or thirties. The best-suited age range for rhinoplasty is 18 to 45, and under 18 it is not suitable.
About 52.5% of households in Utrecht are single-person households. If you live alone, think early about who will be reachable in the days after surgery. The clinic keeps you in the inpatient unit for one day, and you have a personal coordinator before, during and after the stay. Coordinators answer on WhatsApp and Telegram round the clock, and they explain each step of preparation, remind you about tests and check-ups and book follow-up visits. Even so, we recommend arranging a friend or relative who can be reachable by phone on the day you return home.
Because the consultation is online, you can prepare in your own time. Send photos, describe what bothers you about the shape or the breathing, and say what you do not want to change. The doctor builds a 3D model of the possible result and explains the course of the operation. You will see a realistic forecast before committing to anything. If surgery is not really needed in your case, the doctor will say so.
If you want to talk to people who have had the operation, the clinic runs a members-only Telegram community of patients. Photos of real patients are shown without retouching, and you can ask them how they planned their weeks. It is not a replacement for the doctor's advice, but many people find it useful to compare experiences before taking the decision.
Only with a medical reason. Zorginstituut Nederland states that plastic surgery is covered by the basic package when there is a functional impairment, a directly visible disfigurement from an accident, illness or treatment, or certain congenital conditions. Surgery done only to improve appearance is not covered, and neither is surgery for psychological or social reasons. Whether your situation qualifies is decided by your insurer. Ask the insurer before you rely on any coverage.
A machtiging is prior approval from the insurer. Zorginstituut notes that some insurers require it for covered plastic surgery. If you plan to ask for coverage because of restricted breathing, ask your insurer whether it needs approval first and what documents it wants. The clinic can explain what it provides in writing, such as the plan and the contract.
Where plastic surgery is covered, there is no co-payment, but the costs fall under the mandatory deductible (eigen risico). If the operation is aesthetic and not covered, the deductible does not apply to it in the same way, because the insurer is not paying. Check the details of your own policy with the insurer.
Yes. The online consultation does not involve any procedure, so it can take place when you have a cold. What matters is the date of surgery itself: inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes is listed among the reasons rhinoplasty is not suitable at that moment. Tell the coordinator about it, and the doctor will take it into account when dates are discussed.
There is no single right month. Winter has 25 snow days a year, high humidity of 89% in November and December and little daylight (55.5 hours of sunshine in December). Summer is milder, with a July mean maximum of 23.1 °C. What matters more is your calendar: festivals such as Le Guess Who? in mid-November, King's Day on 27 April and Liberation Day on 5 May. Decide when you want to be at ease and plan back from that date with margin.
Cycling is the most common way of getting around the city, with 51% of journeys made by bicycle. We do not state a number of days for returning to it, because recovery depends on the operation and on your anatomy. Ask the doctor at the online consultation, and arrange another way of getting around for the first period.
About 52.5% of households in Utrecht are single-person, so this is common. Preparation begins 21 days before the operation and includes tests such as a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. Your coordinator reminds you of each step, and you stay one day in the clinic after surgery. Arrange a friend or relative to be reachable by phone on the day you return home.
Light is what counts. In Utrecht winter days are short, with only 55.5 hours of sunshine in December against 213.9 in July. Take photos in daylight next to a window, with the front view, both sides and a view from below, and avoid strong lamps from above. Even light lets the doctor judge the nose before the 3D model is made.
