FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
questions patients ask

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

About nose surgery for patients from Szczecin

Who is a candidate? The optimal age is 18 to 45, when the nose is fully formed and tissues heal well; with medical indications, older patients can also be considered if health allows. Indications include asymmetric cartilage or nostrils and significant breathing problems. Anyone researching rhinoplasty in Szczecin should know the contraindications too: decompensated chronic disease, skin damage or inflammation in the area.

In the operating room, the anaesthetist uses TIVA or classic general anaesthesia depending on complexity. The surgeon opens access by the chosen technique, corrects bone and cartilage with a piezo device, reshapes the nose and closes with atraumatic or self-absorbing sutures. Packing and an external splint stabilise the new shape. For those in Szczecin, the first 24 hours are spent under observation.

The consultation costs nothing and gives a realistic forecast: facial proportions are assessed, a 3D model of the future nose is shown and a personal surgery and recovery plan is drawn up. After that, the fee for rhinoplasty is $4,200 (≈ PLN 16,500) with inpatient care, dressings and follow-ups included. Patients from Szczecin can book via the form or message us in any messenger.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Breathing first: the nose in damp, oceanic air

Szczecin sits in north-west Poland close to the Baltic Sea, and its climate is classed as oceanic. Relative humidity averages 79.9% over the year. It peaks in November at 89.1% and December at 89.0%, and drops to 70.8% in April. Air this damp matters for anyone with a nose that does not let air through well. A narrow passage feels more blocked when the mucous membranes are swollen, and a deviated septum is easiest to notice when you wake up with a dry mouth after a night of heating-season air. Rhinoplasty is not only about appearance. For primary rhinoplasty, the programme names shape and breathing together as its main goal. If the septum is deviated, the combined operation is rhinoseptoplasty, which corrects the septum and changes the outer shape in one procedure.

Patients in Szczecin often start with the question "is my problem cosmetic or functional?" The doctor answers it during the free online consultation, from the photos you send and from your description of how you breathe. The programme lists marked breathing problems, a deviated septum and nasal polyps among the situations where rhinoplasty addresses the problem. A pronounced hump, a wide nasal bridge, a bulbous tip, asymmetric cartilage or nostrils, a saddle nose and the consequences of a nose injury are on the same list. Write down in advance when the blockage is worse: in the cold months, after rain, at night, on one side only. These notes help the doctor far more than the general statement "I breathe badly".

The year in Szczecin is wet. The long-term normals give 567.1 mm of precipitation on 166.6 days with at least 0.1 mm. Other sources describe the total as a little lower, so treat the figure as approximate. The city also has about 23.7 snowy days a year, mostly in January and February. Colds are part of the picture, and the programme is clear about them. Inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes is on the list of reasons why surgery is not suitable at that moment. If you catch a cold in autumn, say so to your coordinator. The date is then planned around your recovery from the infection, not around a calendar you made before it.

Szczecin is also surrounded by forest and heath, including Szczecin Landscape Park. If you know that green air at certain times of the year makes your nose run, tell the doctor in the first message. It will not be a reason to dismiss you. It is simply one more piece of information about how your nose behaves.

Planning the weeks: splint, swelling and the calendar

The operation itself is compact. It is done under general anaesthesia and takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on complexity. After it you stay in the inpatient unit for one day. The preparation before it is longer. The programme advises starting 21 days before rhinoplasty, and at the first appointment the doctor gives a list of tests. The pre-operative set includes a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. A blood count and urinalysis appear with a two-week validity. Your personal coordinator reminds you about every test, so you do not have to keep the list in your head.

Think of the weeks after surgery as a project with a few fixed points. After the operation you receive a recovery programme. Check-ups take place at 7 days, then at 3 and 6 months, and consultations with the doctor remain free for a year afterwards. These milestones are what you build your diary around. The programme does not promise an exact day when swelling disappears, because recovery depends on your anatomy and individual features, so avoid planning the schedule on an optimistic guess. Leave some space around the first check-up and be ready for the face to look less settled than you would like when you meet people.

One small detail turns the waiting into something more pleasant. The splint comes in colours: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry and carbon. You choose before the operation. A calm carbon splint for a person who does not want attention and a bright yellow one for someone who treats the whole thing with humour are both normal choices. Do not leave the choice to the last moment, because it is a nice thing to discuss with the coordinator during the planning conversation.

Poland has 14 public non-working days, and Szczecin follows the same calendar. They include 1 January, 6 January, Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 May, 3 May, Pentecost Sunday, Corpus Christi, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November, 24 December and 25 and 26 December. A long weekend around one of these dates looks like a natural gap for recovery. The consultation can be arranged in any week, but the operation date is confirmed only after the plan is agreed in the contract. A date placed just before 1 January 2027 would give you the holiday days at home, but it also means that you may have family photos in the first days after the splint. Think about which matters more to you.

When the face is on show: events, holidays and the city's calendar

It helps to think of your diary as a list of occasions where your face will be seen at close range. Szczecin has a recognisable rhythm. A marathon is organised in the city in August, and the men's tennis tournament Pekao Szczecin Open takes place every year in September. The finals of the Tall Ships' Races were held here on 4-7 August 2007, 3-6 August 2013 and 4-7 August 2017. The 2021 final was cancelled because of COVID-19. These are public events of the summer and early autumn, and they are the kind of occasions where people take photos and meet acquaintances. If you plan to be among the crowd, or a participant, count backwards from the date and leave room for the check-up at 7 days and for a margin of unplanned time.

The city is also a student centre. The University of Szczecin alone has 35,000 students, and the city hosts the Pomeranian Medical University, the Maritime University, the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the Art Academy. For a student or a young professional, the calendar has its own fixed points: the exam session, defences, the start of the term. The programme gives an optimal age range of 18 to 45 and says that under 18 is a contraindication. A person aged 19 or 24 can be a suitable candidate when the nose has finished forming. Schedule surgery away from the days when you must present, speak in front of a group or be photographed.

Because the consultation is online, you can use the waiting time well. Send frontal and profile photos, ask for the 3D model of the future result and compare it with your idea of the face. The doctor makes this model at the consultation and explains the course of the operation, and the consultation is free and carries no commitment to surgery. Take a few days with the model before confirming a date. Many people want to look at it in different lighting and show it to a spouse or close friend. If after that you decide that the plan does not match your wishes, you lose nothing. The doctor will also say plainly if surgery is not needed in your case.

Glasses, sun and the water around the city

The Oder runs through Szczecin on both banks and around several large islands, and the Regalica branch also flows through the city. Lake Dabie lies entirely within the city limits, and about 24% of the 300.62 km2 area is water. Szczecin Lagoon to the north covers 687 km2. Sailing, diving and water polo clubs work in the city. For anyone who is used to being near water, the practical question is how soon they can return to it. The programme gives no figure for it, and we will not invent one. Ask the doctor at the consultation or at the 7-day check-up. The advice depends on how the operation went and on how your tissues heal.

Glasses and sunlight deserve the same honesty. The nose is the place where glasses rest, and after rhinoplasty that area is sensitive. Your doctor will explain what to do about it for your specific operation, and the topic is worth raising early if you wear glasses every day. People who depend on them for work or study should ask about it in the first message so that the plan includes an arrangement for the first weeks. Sunglasses are a similar question, and so is sun on the skin of the nose. Szczecin gets 1,738.6 hours of sunshine in a year. July has 246.3 hours, May 244.5 and June 242.3, while December has only 32.2 hours and January 42.7. A person recovering in summer faces much more sun than one recovering in winter, and the doctor can say how to protect the area during the recovery programme.

Temperature is the other side of the same picture. July has a mean maximum of 24.3 °C and a minimum of 13.8 °C. January has a mean maximum of 3.0 °C and a minimum of -1.8 °C. A cold nose and a runny nose in a January wind are a very different experience from a mild July evening. You will not need a plan for all of this. You only need a plan for the weeks that matter. Keeping tissues calm in cold air, avoiding bumps in a crowd on a tram and not carrying the nose into a game of football with friends are the sort of things the recovery programme covers in plain language.

Where NFZ coverage ends and a private operation begins

Patients in Szczecin are used to the National Health Fund. NFZ finances services from its catalogues, and the patient information from NFZ states that services not listed in these catalogues are not financed by it. Within the funded range, treatment is in most cases free for the insured patient. Poland's health insurance contribution is 9% of personal income, of which 7.75% is deducted from tax and 1.25% is paid directly to NFZ. Uninsured patients pay the full cost of services. These are general rules, and we cannot say how a particular case would be classified. The question to ask your family doctor or a specialist is whether your breathing problem is a medical indication for public care. A purely aesthetic reshaping is a different matter from treating a deviated septum, and the two should not be confused.

Waiting lists are the second part of the public route. NFZ rules say that for a given service a patient may be entered on a waiting list with only one provider. The original referral must then be delivered within 14 working days of entering the list. If you are considering both routes, learn these rules first, so that a placement on a list does not stand in the way of a private plan you may prefer. In many specialities the wait is long. A Ministry of Health reply from 5 August 2025 shows the scale in orthopaedics: the average wait for a hip replacement fell from 195 days in 2022 to 172 days in 2024, and for a knee replacement from 242 to 214 days. That source concerns another field and its coverage is not stated clearly as national, so use it only as an illustration that waiting is real in public care.

The private programme works differently. It is built around a free first consultation, a doctor's assessment and a contract. The doctor names the final amount only after the assessment, and it is then fixed in the contract. The programme includes the work of the doctor, general anaesthesia, result modelling, the inpatient stay, meals, follow-up visits and dressings, a personal coordinator and all consumables. It also includes support for 12 months. Read the contract carefully, and ask the coordinator to explain every item you do not understand.

An online consultation from a city on the Oder

Szczecin is the capital of West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with 383,786 inhabitants at the end of 2025 according to the statistics office. Other figures exist for the city county on other dates, and the metropolitan area is about 777,000, so numbers differ by source. The city is the fifth largest in Poland by area and seventh by population. For a person living here, the consultation is simple. You write to the coordinators on WhatsApp or Telegram, and they answer around the clock. The first reply comes within 15 minutes. You send photos of the nose and are told what the doctor needs to see.

The doctor who examines your photos is the one who will perform the operation, and the same doctor remains your contact through to the follow-up. The coordinators are three people with different roles. One answers questions before the first consultation, another prepares you and stays in contact during the stay, and a third supports you through recovery and books follow-up visits. For a person who prefers to read before deciding, the Telegram community lets you talk to patients of the centre.

Not every nose is a candidate. The programme lists contraindications: infectious diseases, mental health disorders, cancer, age under 18, decompensated chronic diseases, blood clotting problems, skin damage in the area of the planned operation, and inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes. A repeat operation is possible no earlier than a year after the first. Be honest about your health history in the first conversation. It is much better for the doctor to rule out an operation early than for you to discover a problem after tests.

Does Szczecin's damp winter make it a poor time to plan rhinoplasty?

Not automatically. November and December are the most humid months here, with averages of 89.1% and 89.0%, and January and February bring the most snowy days. What matters for the doctor is whether you have an active infection, because inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes is on the list of reasons not to operate. Tell the coordinator about any cold, and the date can be fixed once you are well.

I get a blocked nose in damp weather. Can rhinoplasty help?

It can, if the cause is structural. The programme says primary rhinoplasty is meant to adjust appearance and improve breathing when airflow is restricted, and rhinoseptoplasty corrects a deviated septum and the nose shape together. If the blockage is caused by swelling of the mucous membrane, an operation may not be the answer. Send photos and a short note on when the blockage is worst, and the doctor will tell you whether surgery is suitable.

How should I plan around the splint and swelling if I have a public event in August or September?

Start from the date of the event and count backwards. The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours, you stay in the clinic for one day, and the first check-up is at 7 days. The programme does not give a day when swelling will be gone, so build in a margin. You can also choose the splint colour in advance. Ask the doctor at the consultation how much time to leave in your situation.

I wear glasses all day. What should I ask before the operation?

Ask when and how glasses can be worn during recovery, because they rest on the area that has been operated on. The programme gives no fixed timing, and the answer depends on your operation and healing. Raise the question in your first message so that it is written into your recovery plan. The same goes for sunglasses and sun protection, since Szczecin gets 1,738.6 hours of sunshine a year.

Will NFZ pay for my nose operation?

NFZ does not finance services that are not listed in its catalogues, and within the funded range treatment is in most cases free for the insured patient. Whether a breathing problem such as a deviated septum qualifies for public care is a question for a physician with a referral. Reshaping for aesthetic reasons is a private matter. Our programme is private, and the doctor sets out the details in the contract.

If I join an NFZ waiting list, can I still ask for a private consultation?

A consultation is free and carries no obligation. The NFZ rule says that for a given service you may be on a waiting list with only one provider, and the original referral must be delivered within 14 working days of entering the list. Check these conditions before you decide. A free online consultation with us does not change your place on any list, but it gives you a plan to compare.

Which Polish public holidays are useful when planning recovery?

Poland has 14 public non-working days, including 1 January, 6 January, Easter Sunday and Monday, 1 May, 3 May, Corpus Christi, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November, 24 December and 25 and 26 December. A long weekend can give you quiet days at home. Remember that the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months are separate points, so look at the whole sequence, not only the first days.

Can a student in Szczecin have rhinoplasty?

Age 18 or older is required, and the programme gives an optimal range of 18 to 45. With many universities in the city, plan the operation away from exams and defences, and leave space for the 7-day check-up. The coordinator can help you find a quiet period once you know your academic calendar.
