FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
answers to frequent questions

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

Rhinoplasty in Constanta: what you need to know

This is one of the most delicate and popular plastic surgeries. It suits adults who want to correct the shape of the nose, whether the issue is congenital or appeared after an injury, and those with impaired nasal breathing. If you are from Constanta and unhappy with the outcome of an earlier operation, secondary rhinoplasty is also an option after at least a year.

What happens after surgery? For the first day you stay under observation in the inpatient unit. Swelling gradually subsides, though the tip and bridge may remain swollen for some time. Bending over, touching the nose and wearing glasses or makeup around it are off-limits early on. The final result for patients from Constanta can be judged after 1–1.5 years, once tissues fully stabilise.

The consultation costs nothing and gives a realistic forecast: facial proportions are assessed, a 3D model of the future nose is shown and a personal surgery and recovery plan is drawn up. After that, the fee for rhinoplasty is $4,200 (≈ RON 20,500) with inpatient care, dressings and follow-ups included. Patients from Constanta can book via the form or message us in any messenger.

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Breathing through a nose that lives in sea air

Constanta sits on the Black Sea coast at an elevation of 25 m, and the climate is classed as humid subtropical (Cfa). Annual relative humidity is 82%, rising to 88% in December and dropping to 76% in July. For anyone thinking about nose surgery, these figures matter. The nose is the organ that warms and moistens every breath, and people with a narrow airway or a deviated septum usually notice their problem most on days when the air is heavy and damp.

That is why the first conversation about rhinoplasty should cover function as well as shape. The primary operation described by the coordinators adjusts appearance and improves breathing when airflow is restricted. If a deviated septum is the main complaint, the combined operation, rhinoseptoplasty, corrects the septum and changes the nose in the same session. Septoplasty alone leaves the outer contour untouched, so the choice depends on what bothers you more: the mirror, the breath, or both.

When you write to the coordinator, describe the breathing in concrete terms: which side blocks, whether it gets worse in the damp months, whether it is worse at night. Add photos of the nose from the front, from both sides and from slightly below. The doctor reviews them online and tells you whether surgery tackles the problem. Marked breathing problems, a deviated septum, nasal polyps and a nose injury are all listed among the situations that rhinoplasty tackles.

The humid air should not be treated as a diagnosis. Damp weather can make any stuffy nose feel worse, whatever the cause. The consultation exists to separate a structural problem, which an operation can change, from a temporary one that the weather exaggerates. If surgery is not actually needed, the doctor says so at the consultation.

Some conditions rule an operation out for now. Inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes is on the list of contraindications, and so are infectious diseases, blood clotting problems, decompensated chronic diseases and skin damage in the area of the planned surgery. If you are in the middle of a bad cold or a flare-up of sinus trouble, say so when you write. Planning is better done on a calm, healthy nose than on one that is already inflamed.

Cold months, snow days and the heating season

Constanta's winters are mild by inland standards but not gentle on the nose. The January mean high is 4.7 °C and the mean low is -1.2 °C. About 22 days a year are snowy, with January averaging 7.83 and February 5.25. The recorded extremes run from 38.5 °C to -25.0 °C. Going from a frozen street into a heated room is hard on nasal mucosa even when the nose is healthy, and anyone who has had breathing complaints knows the dry-indoor, damp-outdoor swing well.

This matters for planning in two ways. First, the preparation for rhinoplasty is not instant. The treatment plan says preparation should begin 21 days before the operation, and the first appointment produces a list of required tests. The pre-operative set includes a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. A person who catches every winter cold may want to count those 21 days backwards from the preferred date and keep a margin for a cold that postpones the tests.

Second, the weeks after the operation fall in a particular season, and you can choose which one. In a cold, damp winter month you will meet more colds and more dry heated air during the days when the nose is most sensitive. You will also meet more situations where a splint and swelling are inconvenient, such as wrapping a scarf and hat around the face. Summer brings its own question about sun and glasses, covered below. Neither season is better in general. What helps is knowing your own pattern: if you are rarely ill in January, a winter date may suit you, because the beaches are empty and nothing in the social calendar competes with the recovery.

The coordinators can help build the timeline around your own health pattern. The recovery programme given after the operation, and the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months, are fixed points. Surgery dates and follow-up consultations are arranged online, and the doctor stays in touch through the same WhatsApp or Telegram conversation, so that a winter cold does not leave you wondering whom to ask.

One practical point: the doctor will want to know about every nasal spray, drop or medicine you currently use for congestion, because long-term use is part of the picture of how your nose behaves. Tell the coordinator before the consultation, not afterwards.

Sun, glasses and the Mamaia season

Constanta gets 2,314 hours of sunshine a year. July alone has 331 hours, while December has only 86. Beach weather in Mamaia is generally given as mid-June to early September, and that resort district sits on a strip of land 8 km long and only 300 m wide between the Black Sea and Lake Siutghiol. In July and August the mean high is 27.9 °C, with lows around 19.7-19.9 °C. In other words, the sunniest stretch of the year is also the stretch when faces are most exposed: sunglasses, swimming, open-air evenings, a gondola lift ride along the resort.

For a nose that has been operated on, that calendar needs thought. The coordinators describe the nasal splint as part of the recovery, and they invite you to choose its colour, from purple, gold, green, light blue, pink and yellow to raspberry and carbon. Be realistic: a splint is visible, and swelling around the nose changes how glasses and sunglasses sit. Ask the doctor at the consultation about when you can wear them and what the safest way is to protect the skin of the nose from strong sun. The treatment plan gives no figures for this, so do not rely on a number from a friend or a forum. Ask, and wait for the doctor's answer for your own case.

Practical planning for the summer is simple. If you want the first check-up behind you before the beach season opens in mid-June, count back from your target date. The check-up at 7 days is the first checkpoint, followed by the check-ups at 3 and 6 months. Write those dates into your calendar the moment the operation date is reserved. A person who spends the whole of July on the sand will probably prefer to schedule the operation outside the sunniest weeks, so that the nose is not exposed to maximum sun and salt water during the early recovery. Equally, a person who dreads cold-season colds may be happy to accept the sun in exchange.

Constanta's sun is also uneven across the year. December has only 86 hours, which makes it a gentler month for anyone who is wary of sun on healing skin. The trade-off is the damp, grey weather already discussed. The two lists above, sun and damp, are the two forces to weigh.

When the face is on show: holidays, matches, lectures

Romania has 15 non-working public days. They include 1-2 January, 24 January, Orthodox Easter from Friday to Monday, 1 May, 1 June, Pentecost on Sunday and Monday, 15 August, 30 November, 1 December and 25-26 December. Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on 2 May 2027. Around Easter 2027 there is a long weekend that runs from Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May, and 1 May sits right next to it. A long block of days off is a natural time for family gatherings, and it is also exactly when a swollen, splinted nose would be noticed by the largest number of relatives.

So here is a way to think about it. Make a list of occasions where you want to look and feel natural: a wedding, a graduation, a christening, a job interview, a match day with friends. Football fans in Constanta have FCV Farul in Liga I, there is RC Farul rugby in the Divizia Nationala and HCD Constanta handball, and such days tend to be social. Then place the operation date well before the first of those events and not on top of them. The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia and is followed by one day at the clinic, but the visible recovery lasts much longer than that day. The doctor confirms the realistic expectation for your case during the consultation, and no one should promise you a date when the swelling is gone.

Students are a particular group. Ovidius University of Constanta has about 15,000 students and 16 faculties, including Medicine and Pharmacy. Exam sessions and lectures impose deadlines that are hard to move. A student thinking about rhinoplasty, within the age range of 18 to 45 that the doctors call optimal, should look at the academic calendar before choosing a date. The coordinator can move the consultation and the date reservation around exam weeks, since everything before the day at the clinic happens online.

A few holidays are also useful as anchors. The days around 1 and 2 January, or the days from 25 to 26 December, mean fewer obligations, and many people have a few days free. That is a practical argument for a date close to a break. Counterbalance it with the 21 days of preparation: if you want an operation just after the New Year, the tests and the list from the first appointment have to be started in the weeks before, which collide with the busiest social weeks of the year. Count back before you commit.

Do not forget the 3D model. The doctor makes a 3D model of the future result at the consultation, so you will see a realistic forecast before deciding. Show the model to the people whose opinion matters to you, then decide on the date together with your family calendar in front of you.

Insurance, co-payments and what the national fund does and does not cover

Romania's health insurance is run by CNAS, the national health insurance fund, which manages the social health insurance system and a basic package of medical services, medicines, sanitary materials and medical devices. Free procedures within the public system require a health card showing that insurance has been paid. EU citizens and uninsured Romanians receive free emergency care. Since April 2019, insured people can also pay the difference between private-provider tariffs and the fund's fees.

What does this mean for someone thinking about an aesthetic nose operation? Do not assume that the national fund pays for it. The fund has begun introducing co-payments for certain services that are not strictly medically necessary, and no official figure on cosmetic surgery coverage or waiting lists was found in the sources used here. A comparable case, bariatric surgery, is not fully reimbursed by CNAS in either state or private hospitals, according to a press article from 26 December 2024. Some pre- and post-operative services, such as endoscopy, can be free with a family-doctor referral. The same logic may apply to some diagnostic steps before nasal surgery, but it is not a rule, and only your family doctor or the insurance fund can say what applies to you.

The sensible approach is to separate the pieces. Ask your family doctor whether any of the diagnostic steps, such as examination of the sinuses or a referral for the X-ray, can go through your insurance. Ask your private insurer, if you have one, whether a functional indication such as a deviated septum or marked breathing difficulty changes how a claim is treated. The coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram can send you a written plan and the list of what the clinic will do, which makes such questions easier to put to an insurer. Keep every document you are given.

Out-of-pocket spending is a known feature of the Romanian system. Out-of-pocket payments were about 21% of total health expenditure, compared with an EU average of 15%, according to dated data. The system itself is described as hospital-centric, with a shortage of healthcare workers. People in Constanta who are used to paying privately for some care will find the arrangement familiar: the cost of the operation is named by the doctor after the consultation and fixed in the contract, and what is included is listed in advance. That list includes the doctor's work, general anaesthesia, result modelling, the inpatient stay, meals at the clinic, follow-up visits and dressings, coordinator support and all necessary consumables.

Planning the weeks around the operation

Here is how a typical plan can be built for someone in Constanta, step by step, using only the stages the clinic describes.

First, send photos and a short description of your breathing to the coordinator. The doctor assesses your nose and your wishes at the free online consultation, models the result in 3D, and explains the course of the operation. No obligation follows. The consultation is online, and coordinators answer round the clock, so the time difference between your evening and a busy day does not matter.

Second, reserve the date. A deposit confirms the reservation and the terms are fixed in the contract for medical services. Before paying, read the contract and check that it lists what you were told.

Third, begin the preparation. Preparation is meant to start 21 days before the operation. The tests are a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. Because the damp season brings colds and sinus trouble, do the sinus X-ray with this in mind and tell the coordinator about any flare-up.

Fourth, the operation itself: general anaesthesia, 1.5 to 3 hours depending on complexity, then one day in the clinic's inpatient unit. After discharge you receive a recovery programme, with check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. Follow-up consultations with the doctor remain free for a year.

Fifth, plan the context around those dates: the long Easter weekend of 2027, the start of the beach season in mid-June, exam sessions, match days, family events. Put the check-up dates in the same calendar as your holidays, so that none of them collides with a day you cannot get away from. Revision rhinoplasty, which is a repeat correction after an unsuccessful or partly successful operation, is performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. If someone is considering a second operation, that is the minimum gap to keep in mind.

Finally, prepare the home. Keep the splint colour you chose in mind, arrange help for the first day after discharge, and keep the coordinator's contact where you can reach it quickly, because questions about swelling and breathing tend to come in the evening.

Does the damp sea climate of Constanta affect when I should plan a rhinoplasty?

Annual relative humidity in Constanta is 82%, reaching 88% in December, and the winters bring about 22 snowy days a year. Those conditions make colds and sinus flare-ups likely in the cold months, and inflammation of the nose, throat, ears or eyes is a contraindication for the operation. The doctor will go through your own history during the consultation. If you tend to get ill in winter, aim for a date when you are usually healthy and leave a margin for the 21 days of preparation and the tests.

Will the nasal splint and swelling be a problem during the beach season in Mamaia?

The beach season in Mamaia runs from mid-June to early September, and sunshine peaks at 331 hours in July. A splint is visible, and swelling changes how glasses sit. The treatment plan gives no figures for sun exposure or swimming after the operation, so ask the doctor at the consultation what applies to your case. Many people prefer to arrange the operation and the 7-day check-up well before the summer weeks.

Can I plan the operation around Orthodox Easter and the May holidays in 2027?

Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on 2 May 2027, and the non-working days run from Friday to Monday, with 1 May right next to them. That is a long weekend for gatherings, and a splinted nose will be noticed by the largest number of relatives. Count back 21 days for the preparation and place the 7-day check-up before the events you care about. Avoid putting the operation date right next to a family occasion.

Will the national health insurance fund pay for a nose operation?

Romania's CNAS manages a basic package of services, and free procedures require a health card showing paid insurance. No official figure on cosmetic surgery coverage was found, and CNAS has begun introducing co-payments for services that are not strictly medically necessary. A comparable case, bariatric surgery, is not fully reimbursed. Ask your family doctor or the fund about any diagnostic steps, and keep the written plan from the coordinator for your insurer.

I study at Ovidius University. How do I fit the operation around the academic calendar?

The consultation, the 3D modelling and the date reservation all happen online, so they can be arranged between lectures. The operation itself takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia and is followed by one day at the clinic. After that, check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months are fixed points. Choose a date that does not fall in an exam session, and tell the coordinator your calendar at the start.

Which tests should I prepare for, and how early?

Preparation should begin 21 days before the operation, and the doctor gives a list of required tests at the first appointment. The pre-operative set includes a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. A person with frequent winter colds should leave a margin so that a cold does not postpone the tests. Ask your family doctor whether any of the examinations can go through insurance.

My main problem is breathing, not appearance. Is rhinoplasty the right operation?

It can be. The primary operation adjusts appearance and improves breathing when airflow is restricted, while septoplasty corrects the septum and keeps the outer contour unchanged. When there is a deviated septum and an aesthetic concern, the combined operation, rhinoseptoplasty, solves both tasks at once. Send photos and describe the breathing to the coordinator, and the doctor will say whether surgery fits your case.

Can I have a second correction if I am not happy with an earlier nose operation?

Revision rhinoplasty is a repeat correction after an unsuccessful or partly successful operation, and it is performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. Send photos of the current nose and a short history to the coordinator, and the doctor will assess whether a revision is appropriate. The consultation is free and carries no commitment.
