How a nose job works for Zurich residents

The aim is a nose that blends with your features and works flawlessly. Before anything is decided in Zurich, the surgeon evaluates nose size, tip projection, the septum and nasal lining, then uses 3D modelling to show the future proportions. Rhinoplasty makes features more harmonious without losing individuality, and the predicted result is agreed with you in advance.

In the operating room, the anaesthetist uses TIVA or classic general anaesthesia depending on complexity. The surgeon opens access by the chosen technique, corrects bone and cartilage with a piezo device, reshapes the nose and closes with atraumatic or self-absorbing sutures. Packing and an external splint stabilise the new shape. For those in Zurich, the first 24 hours are spent under observation.

Start with a free, non-binding consultation: you get an assessment of nasal anatomy, a 3D forecast and answers on recovery. If you decide to proceed, rhinoplasty costs $4,200 (≈ CHF 3,500), including the operation, inpatient stay, follow-up visits and dressings, with a lifetime guarantee on the result. Patients from Zurich can send a request online or message a coordinator.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

A nose that has to work in damp, cool air

A nose operation is judged twice: once in the mirror and once on an ordinary breath. For anyone living in Zurich, the second test happens in a specific setting. The city's mean annual relative humidity is 77.7%. Annual precipitation is 1,021 mm, spread over 125.2 rain days. In January the mean temperature is 1.0 °C, the mean minimum is −1.9 °C, and a typical year brings about 87 frost days. These numbers describe the air you breathe through the year. They are not a medical argument for or against surgery. They are a reason to think about breathing as well as shape when you plan.

Primary rhinoplasty adjusts the appearance of the nose and also improves breathing when airflow is restricted. Rhinoseptoplasty is the combined operation for a deviated septum: it corrects the septum and changes the shape of the nose in one procedure. Septoplasty on its own corrects the septum and leaves the outer contour intact. Which of these fits you depends on anatomy, so the choice is made during the consultation, not in advance.

A practical habit before you write to the coordinators: for a few weeks, note when your nose feels most blocked. It might be on cold mornings, on rainy days, in the evening, or on one side only. Zurich offers plenty of contrast to observe, from the frosty months to the wettest ones, with July at 116 mm, May at 115 mm and February the driest at 55 mm. Share those notes together with photos of your nose from the front, the side and slightly from below. The doctor will use them, along with your own description, to judge whether the main task is shape, breathing or both.

One caution is worth knowing early. The list of reasons that make rhinoplasty unsuitable includes inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes. If your nose is often irritated or inflamed, say so openly. The doctor will assess it during the online consultation. Whether the operation goes ahead, and when, is decided only after that assessment.

Sunshine hours, glasses and the lake

Zurich gets 1,662 hours of sunshine a year, which averages 4.5 hours a day. The spread is wide: 7.6 hours a day in July and 7.2 in June, against 1.3 in December and 1.6 in January. About 51 days a year count as summer days and 11–12 as hot days. If you picture your recovery in a bright month, you will probably want to discuss sun exposure. If you picture it in a grey month, the questions change. The sunshine numbers are only a way of seeing what each season looks like. The medical rules for sun, glasses and water after the operation are not something to guess from a calendar.

If you wear glasses every day, bring this up at the start. Nose shape, the position of the bridge and the way frames rest are all part of a conversation about your face. The doctor will go through during the consultation what to do with glasses and sunglasses while the nose recovers, and what to arrange beforehand. Photos of you wearing your usual frames help that conversation. Write the question down so it does not get lost among the bigger ones.

Water is the other topic. The city sits at the lower, northern end of the Zürichsee, with the Limmat flowing out of the lake. The Flussbad Oberer Letten on the Limmat is free to enter and is described as suitable only for good swimmers. It is easy to see why people with plans for the lake or the river would ask about swimming. The answer comes from the doctor who knows your operation and your recovery. It does not come from how pleasant the weather looks. Ask for it in plain terms, and ask what to avoid in the first period as well as when to return to it.

Recovery also has a visible side, and the planning can be done calmly in advance. The nasal splint is part of the process, and patients can choose its colour: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry or carbon. It is a small detail, but picking one ahead of time makes the days with the splint feel less improvised.

Planning around dates when your face is on show

Every diary has dates that matter: a family occasion, a graduation, a work presentation, a long-planned holiday. The sensible way to plan is backwards from the date. Start with what the process requires. Preparation begins 21 days before the operation. The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia, depending on complexity, followed by one day in the clinic's inpatient unit. After that the programme includes check-ups at 7 days, at 3 months and at 6 months. Consultations with the doctor remain free for a year afterwards. Put those blocks on the calendar first, and the date of the event second.

Zurich supplies some well-known fixed points. Sechseläuten is held on the third Monday of April, moved only if it falls in Holy Week or on Easter Monday. If the usual rule holds, that is 19 April 2027. For city employees the afternoon is a half holiday, a local custom rather than a statutory holiday. The Street Parade is usually held on the second Saturday in August along the Zürichsee, which would be 14 August 2027. It draws around 900,000 visitors (920,000 in 2023, a record of 1,100,000 in 2018). Whether you go to these events or want to avoid the photographs and the crowds, they show how a social calendar can fill up. Ask the coordinator to look at your date together with the steps above.

No one can promise how you will look on a given day, and nobody should. Recovery times given for a type of surgery are typical averages and are for general guidance only. Your anatomy and individual features determine both the extent of correction and the recovery. So the useful question for the doctor is not «will I be ready by this date?» but «what will my recovery most likely look like by this date, and what is the margin if it is slower?». If the margin is thin, it is better to move the operation than to hold the event hostage.

Some patients are students. The University of Zurich had 28,476 students in 2024, and ETH Zürich lists 26,942 students in its own article, with no year given. If your timetable depends on semesters and exam sessions, tell the coordinators your own dates. The recommended age range for the operation is 18 to 45, because the nose has finished forming and tissues still heal well. Younger patients under 18 are in the list of cases where rhinoplasty is not suitable.

Swiss insurance rules and the questions to ask before you commit

In Switzerland, everyone staying in the country must have health insurance. Basic (OKP) benefits are identical nationwide for all insured and cover illness, accident and maternity. Insurers must offer the basic plan to everyone regardless of age or health status. This is the framework you already live in. It is useful to know how it works when you consider a plastic operation arranged online.

The basic plan also has limits that residents know well. Dental care, for example, is generally not paid by basic insurance, except in special cases. Insured people carry an annual franchise and a co-payment share, and these depend on the plan chosen. For rhinoplasty, the sensible step is to ask your insurer directly, in writing, how your plan treats a nose operation. Make clear whether your reason is aesthetic, functional or both. We cannot say what any insurer will decide, and the clinic's contract does not depend on that answer.

What the clinic can give you is clarity on its own side. The first online consultation is free. After the 3D model is made and the doctor has examined your case, the price of the operation is named, confirmed and fixed in the contract for medical services. The programme includes the operation, general anaesthesia, result modelling, the inpatient stay, meals at the clinic, follow-up visits and dressings, personal coordinator support and all necessary consumables. Support continues for 12 months. Read the contract as you would any other agreement, and ask for anything unclear to be explained in plain words.

Because you are in a country with firm insurance rules, you may want your own doctor or insurer to see a summary of what is planned. Ask the coordinator which documents can be shared for that purpose. This is simply good housekeeping and does not change the medical plan.

Online from Zurich: photos, a 3D model, one day, then a year of follow-up

The process starts with a message on WhatsApp or Telegram. Coordinators answer round the clock, and the free consultation reply comes within 15 minutes. You send photos and describe what bothers you. The doctor, who is the same person who would operate on you, assesses your nose and your wishes. In the consultation the doctor builds a 3D model of the future result and explains the course of the operation. You get a realistic forecast and a plan, with no commitment to surgery. If an operation is not needed in your case, you will be told so.

Once you decide, the date is reserved by deposit, and the terms are confirmed in the contract. Before the operation you need a full set of laboratory tests: complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. The list you receive at the first appointment is the one to follow. Blood clotting problems are among the contraindications, which is why these tests matter. In Zurich you can usually arrange the tests locally, but check the exact list and validity periods with your coordinator before you book anything.

The operation itself is performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on complexity, takes 1.5 to 3 hours. You stay in the clinic's inpatient unit for one day afterwards. A recovery programme follows, with check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. Three coordinators share the work: one handles your questions and dates before the consultation, one is with you before and during your stay, and one supports you through recovery. They remind you about tests, help with documents and bookings, and arrange follow-up visits.

If you have already had a nose operation and are unhappy with the result, revision rhinoplasty is a separate path. It is a repeat correction after an unsuccessful or partly successful operation, performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. Photos of the earlier result and the operation record help the doctor judge what is realistic. The whole thing can start with one message, sent on a quiet evening, with no obligation to go further.

Does Zurich's cold, damp winter make it a poor season for rhinoplasty?

The figures for the city are 1.0 °C as the January mean, about 87 frost days and 77.7% mean relative humidity. We do not claim that any season is better or worse for the operation. What matters is your health on the day, your calendar and the recovery plan the doctor sets. Tell the coordinator which months suit you and which do not, and the doctor will look at the dates together with the steps of the process.

Can I plan the operation around Sechseläuten or the Street Parade?

You can use them as fixed points on the calendar. If the usual rule holds, Sechseläuten falls on 19 April 2027 and the Street Parade on 14 August 2027. The process needs 21 days of preparation, an operation of 1.5 to 3 hours, one day in the clinic and check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. Recovery times are typical averages, so the doctor will tell you how much margin to leave before an event.

I like swimming in the lake or the Limmat. When can I go back?

We do not give a number here, because the answer belongs to your own recovery. The Flussbad Oberer Letten on the Limmat is only suited to good swimmers, and the Zürichsee is open water as well. Put the question to the doctor during the consultation and ask what to avoid in the first period, not only when you may return.

Will my basic Swiss health insurance pay for rhinoplasty?

We cannot say what any insurer will decide. Basic (OKP) benefits cover illness, accident and maternity, and they are the same across the country. Ask your insurer in writing how your plan treats a nose operation, and state clearly whether the reason is aesthetic, functional or both. The clinic's price is named after the consultation and fixed in the contract regardless of that reply.

I wear glasses all day. What should I raise at the consultation?

Tell the doctor how you wear them and send photos with your usual frames on. The doctor will explain during the consultation what to do about glasses and sunglasses while the nose recovers. Zurich has 1,662 sunshine hours a year, so sun protection is a fair thing to ask about too. Write the questions down beforehand.

My breathing is worse in some months. Should I mention that?

Yes, and as precisely as you can. Note which months, which side and what the conditions were. Primary rhinoplasty can improve breathing when airflow is restricted, and rhinoseptoplasty is the option for a deviated septum. Inflammation of the nose is a reason the operation may not be suitable at that moment, so the doctor needs the full picture before the plan is made.

I study at a university in Zurich. How do I fit this around semesters?

Give the coordinator your own timetable and any exam dates. The process has fixed parts: 21 days of preparation, one day in the clinic and check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. The doctor will help you place them so they do not collide with the periods when you most need to be present. The recommended age range for the operation is 18 to 45.

I had a nose operation before and want it corrected. Can I ask from Zurich?

Yes. Send photos of the current result and describe what the earlier operation involved. Revision rhinoplasty is a repeat correction and is performed no earlier than a year after the primary one. The doctor will tell you during the free consultation whether a revision is realistic in your case and what it would involve.
