FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
common questions

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

Rhinoplasty in Cardiff: price and what is included

Prices are in US dollars; the amount in brackets is an approximate conversion to GBP at the rate of 02.10.2026. The final price is fixed in your contract.

How much does rhinoplasty in Cardiff cost?

Prices start from $4,200 (≈ £3,200). The surgeon sets the final price at the free consultation, and it is fixed in the contract, with no hidden extras.

What is included in the price?

The operation under general anaesthesia, a one-day inpatient stay, follow-up visits and dressings, plus a lifetime guarantee on the result.

How long do the procedure and recovery take?

Surgery takes 1.5–3 hours and you stay one day in the clinic. The nasal splints come out on day 7, and the cast is worn for up to 14 days.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. The first consultation is free and does not oblige you to anything. You can start online by sending a message to the coordinator.

How do I get my exact price?

Questions from patients in Cardiff

I am not happy with my first rhinoplasty. What can be done?

Revision (secondary) rhinoplasty can correct it, but no earlier than a year after the first surgery. It is a more complex operation; the surgeon decides on it after reviewing your photos and history.

Which photos do I need to send for a rhinoplasty assessment?

Photos of your nose, sent right in the chat; the coordinator tells you which angles the surgeon needs. Mention any previous nose surgery or breathing problems. The doctor then tells you whether rhinoplasty is right for you.

Can I get a rhinoplasty consultation without leaving Cardiff?

Yes. The first consultation is free and starts online: send photos of your nose (front, profile and three-quarter view) on WhatsApp or Telegram, and the surgeon reviews them and explains what can be changed and the price.

I have an event coming up. When should I have rhinoplasty?

Book the operation at least 2–3 weeks before the date. The nasal cast is worn for up to 14 days, and the main swelling subsides in 2–3 weeks; the final result is judged after 1–1.5 years.

When can I get back to my daily routine in Cardiff after rhinoplasty?

The first 24 hours after surgery are spent in the clinic, and the first check-up is on day 7. The surgeon tells you when you can go back to work and your usual routine.

How do I book rhinoplasty for a date that suits me?

Message the coordinator with your preferred date. The first consultation is free, and you can start it online with photos of your nose; the clinic then confirms which dates are open, and only after that is anything booked.

Can my breathing be fixed in the same rhinoplasty operation?

Yes, if needed. Rhinoseptoplasty combines reshaping the nose with correcting the septum in one operation. Whether you need it is decided by the surgeon after examining your septum and breathing.

Rhinoplasty in Cardiff step by step

Modern nose surgery is more than a cosmetic change: it is complex work aimed at an aesthetic result without harming health. For those in Cardiff with breathing problems as well as aesthetic concerns, septorhinoplasty combines septum correction and reshaping in one operation. That way the look becomes harmonious and full nasal breathing is restored at the same time.

In the operating room, the anaesthetist uses TIVA or classic general anaesthesia depending on complexity. The surgeon opens access by the chosen technique, corrects bone and cartilage with a piezo device, reshapes the nose and closes with atraumatic or self-absorbing sutures. Packing and an external splint stabilise the new shape. For those in Cardiff, the first 24 hours are spent under observation.

Nothing about the price is hidden. For $4,200 (≈ £3,200), residents of Cardiff get the operation performed by the plastic surgeon, a day in the ward, follow-up appointments and dressings, and personal coordinator support throughout. The same amount covers open and closed techniques, tip correction and septorhinoplasty. Your first step is a free consultation where the doctor assesses the nose and gives a precise quote.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Breathing first: how the NHS frames nose surgery and what that means for a Cardiff patient

Anyone in Cardiff who starts reading about rhinoplasty soon meets the same question: is this cosmetic, or is it about breathing? The NHS gives a clear starting point. Its guidance says that cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided on the NHS. It adds that the NHS might pay for some procedures for psychological or other health reasons, and it names rhinoplasty for people with breathing problems as one example. Most people who want cosmetic surgery have to pay privately. The practical point is that the shape of the nose and the way air moves through it are treated as two linked questions, and a good consultation addresses both.

City Medical Centre's own classification follows the same logic. Primary rhinoplasty is described as an operation that adjusts appearance and improves breathing when airflow is restricted. Rhinoseptoplasty combines correction of the septum with a change in the outer shape, and it is the option usually discussed when the septum is deviated. Septoplasty alone corrects the septum and leaves the outer contour intact. If you tell the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram that one side of your nose is "always blocked", the doctor will take that as seriously as any wish about the dorsal hump or the tip.

The consultation is online, so the first assessment happens from photographs and your description. You can send images from home in Cardiff, from a break between lectures or from a quiet evening. The doctor looks at the bridge, the tip, the nostrils and the symmetry of the cartilage. The same conversation covers how you breathe through each nostril and whether you have had a nose injury. A 3D model of the future result is made during this consultation, which costs nothing and carries no obligation to proceed. The doctor also says plainly if surgery is not needed in your case.

Some conditions on the service's own list make the operation unsuitable: inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes, blood clotting problems, decompensated chronic diseases, infectious diseases, skin damage in the planned area, and age under 18. A blocked nose that comes and goes with a cold is not the same thing as a structural problem. It is worth noting honestly which kind you have before you decide anything.

Damp, dull months and a nose that is healing

Cardiff's weather is a real part of the planning, because a healing nose reacts to air. The Met Office 1991–2020 normals for Bute Park record 1,203.5 mm of precipitation a year, spread over 153.4 days with 1 mm or more. The wettest months are December (139.6 mm), November (130.7 mm) and October (129.1 mm). April is the driest at 72.1 mm. That is a lot of damp, mild-to-cool air for much of the year, and it matters if you are choosing when to have the operation.

Rain and cold alone do not change how the operation is done. What they change is your daily routine in the first days after discharge. After rhinoplasty you receive a recovery programme, and the doctor explains what to avoid and what to do each day. If your recovery falls in the wettest months, plan for short, calm trips outside and for arrivals by car or taxi rather than long waits at a bus stop. Walking to the end of the street in the rain with a splint on is manageable, but standing in a cold wind with a streaming nose is not pleasant. A scarf that does not press on the nose, and a coat with a hood you can pull up without touching the face, are small practical things.

Cold itself is moderate here. January is the coldest month, with a mean maximum of 8.6 °C and a mean minimum of 2.5 °C. February has the same mean minimum. The annual mean maximum is 15.0 °C and the mean minimum is 7.3 °C. So winter in Cardiff is chilly rather than severe, but it is also the season of heating. A nose that is recovering may feel dry in a warm room, and a warm room is where you will spend most of the time in December and January. Ask the coordinator at the consultation what the doctor advises for dryness and crusting, and follow the programme you are given instead of improvising with sprays from the chemist.

There is another seasonal factor, and it is light. December has just 50.4 hours of sunshine and January 53.5 hours, compared with 1,572.9 hours over the whole year. Dull winter days make it harder to judge swelling honestly in a mirror, so take your control photographs in the same place and with the same light each time. Photographs help the doctor assess your recovery online when you send them to the coordinator.

Glasses, sunshine and the first outdoor weeks

Many people who wear glasses worry about the bridge of the nose more than about the operation itself. It is a reasonable worry. Glasses rest exactly where the bridge heals, and the splint takes up that space for a while. The service text gives no figures for how long to avoid pressure on the bridge, so there is no number to quote here. Ask the doctor at the consultation what is allowed in your case, and what to use in the meantime: contact lenses, or lightweight frames you can hang on the forehead rather than the nose. Settle this before the operation, not on the morning you leave the clinic.

Sunshine in Cardiff is seasonal. July is the sunniest month at 199.6 hours, then May at 198.4 and June at 195.2. July is also the warmest, with a mean maximum of 21.8 °C, and August follows at 21.4 °C. The mean minimum in July is 13.1 °C. These are mild summers, but bright ones, and a healing nose is sensitive to the sun. Ask the doctor about sun protection for the nose, sunglasses and hats, because the same pressure question applies to sunglasses as to ordinary glasses.

The city invites movement. In 2008/09, 61% of Cardiff residents regularly took part in sport, the highest figure among the 22 local authorities in Wales, and Cardiff was named European City of Sport for 2009 and 2014. The Taff Trail, a walking and cycling path of 55 miles (90 km), runs from Cardiff Bay to Brecon. If running, cycling or sport is part of your normal week, put it in front of the doctor when you discuss the plan. The recovery programme will tell you what you can return to and when. Do not guess from what a friend did.

The Cardiff Half Marathon takes place each October and attracts over 20,000 participants. If you run it, or support someone who does, the date is a fixed point to plan around. Choose the operation date so that you are not trying to train through the recovery programme. The first check-up is at 7 days, and the later ones are at 3 and 6 months. Those fixed points matter more than a race date.

When your face is on show: calendar, events and the splint

Most people choosing a date for rhinoplasty are really choosing a period when they would rather not be photographed or see many people. Cardiff's calendar gives plenty of reference points. England and Wales have 8 bank holidays in 2026, and the last ones fall at Christmas: Christmas Day on 25 December and the substitute Boxing Day on 28 December. These are natural days to consider for rest, because the usual routine of work or study is paused. But bank holidays are also when families gather and photographs are taken, so a splint and swelling at Christmas is a trade-off you should decide on deliberately.

The operation itself is short in terms of time at the clinic. It lasts 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia, depending on complexity, and you stay at the clinic for one day. The first stage after discharge is the part you plan around, because that is when the splint is on your nose. The centre invites patients to choose the colour of the splint: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry or carbon. It is a small detail, but it changes how it feels to see yourself in the mirror, and some people find it easier to go out if the splint looks deliberate.

The city has events through the year. Cardiff Big Weekend is held in the city centre in summer, and the Photomarathon, held yearly since 2004, ends with an exhibition in June and July. Both involve cameras and crowds. If you want to appear in photographs at either event, ask the doctor how to plan the date of your operation with the programme of recovery in mind. A rule of thumb that holds in every case is to leave a comfortable gap between discharge and any occasion where you will be looked at closely, and to treat the control appointments as part of the schedule rather than an afterthought.

Students form a large part of the city. About 43,900 people are enrolled in higher education here across Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, the University of South Wales and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. If you study, you know that term dates, assessment weeks and performances shape your free time. Lectures can often be missed more easily than a stage appearance or a presentation. Think about which of these you cannot move, and give the date to the coordinator before booking.

Terrain, water and getting around while you recover

Cardiff is mostly flat in the centre, built on reclaimed marshland, with hills to the north, east and west. The highest point of the local authority area is Garth Hill at 307 m. For someone recovering, the flat centre is helpful: short, level walks are easy to organise, and the steep streets are mostly at the edges. If you live on a hillside, think about who can help you with shopping or the first walk out, as stairs and slopes are tiring after general anaesthesia.

Water is part of the city's character. The River Taff runs through the centre, the Ely joins it and flows into freshwater Cardiff Bay, the Rhymney flows into the Severn Estuary, and the Bristol Channel lies to the south. A pleasant, slow walk beside the water is a good aim for the days when the doctor allows normal walking. In the bay, the Aquabus water taxi runs hourly to the city centre and Penarth, and boat trips to Flat Holm run from March to October. Cardiff International Pool, opened on 12 January 2008, is also there. Swimming and water sport are matters for the doctor: ask when pools and water are acceptable, and do not assume.

The Cardiff area has a population of 381,516 (2025), the largest in Wales, in a city of 141 km² with a density of 2,707 per km². The Cardiff Capital Region has about 1.5 million people. That scale matters in one way only: the city is large enough that you can plan your recovery with the help of friends and relatives nearby, while the consultation, coordination and follow-up are carried out online and on your phone.

How the online process fits a Cardiff week

The process is simple, and it can be done from your own home. You send photographs on WhatsApp or Telegram, the doctor assesses them and gives you a price, and you confirm the plan and dates before anything is booked. The consultation is free. The final figure is named by the doctor and fixed in the contract for medical services. The coordinators answer round the clock, 24/7, so a question that occurs to you at night can be asked at once.

Preparation begins 21 days before the operation. The list of tests includes a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses. Allow time in your week to complete them, and keep the results organised. The doctor gives you the exact list at the first appointment, and the coordinator reminds you about tests and check-ups.

After the operation, the recovery programme begins. Check-ups are at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months, and consultations with the doctor remain free for a year afterwards. The same doctor who assesses you at the consultation is the one who operates and who follows you up. That continuity is why planning the calendar early is useful: it keeps the check-ups from colliding with exams, holidays and events.

If you have had a previous operation, revision rhinoplasty is possible no earlier than a year after the primary one. If the septum is the main problem, ask about rhinoseptoplasty. Both are done under general anaesthesia with a day at the clinic.

Does the NHS pay for rhinoplasty in Wales if my breathing is poor?

The NHS says that cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided, but that it might pay for some procedures for psychological or other health reasons, and it gives rhinoplasty for breathing problems as an example. Whether a particular case qualifies is decided by the NHS itself, not by us. At City Medical Centre the doctor will tell you during a free online consultation whether your anatomy suggests rhinoseptoplasty or rhinoplasty, and the cost is fixed in the contract.

Is the wet Cardiff autumn a bad time to recover from nose surgery?

Not in itself. October, November and December are the wettest months, with 129.1 mm, 130.7 mm and 139.6 mm in the Met Office normals for Bute Park, so you should plan for short outings, a hood and a lift when the weather is poor. The operation is the same all year, and the recovery programme and the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months follow the same schedule. The doctor can discuss your season at the consultation.

I wear glasses all day. How should I prepare?

Raise it at the consultation. The doctor will explain what is possible while the splint is on and how to protect the bridge of the nose during healing. Contact lenses or lighter frames may be an alternative, and it is easier to organise before the operation than after it. There are no fixed periods in our materials, so the doctor's answer for your case is the one to follow.

Can I plan the operation around the Cardiff Half Marathon or a summer festival?

Yes, treat them as fixed dates when you choose your timing. The half marathon takes place each October, and the Big Weekend in the city centre is in summer. Tell the coordinator which dates matter to you, and the doctor will take them into account when proposing a schedule. The recovery programme and the check-ups should not be squeezed around events.

Is winter heating a problem for a healing nose?

Heated rooms are drier than the damp outside air, and January has a mean minimum of 2.5 °C, so you will probably be indoors a good deal. Ask the doctor at the consultation how to deal with dryness during recovery, and follow the programme you are given rather than using unprescribed remedies. Take your control photographs in good light, because December and January are the dullest months, with 50.4 and 53.5 hours of sunshine.

Which Christmas dates should I keep in mind in 2026?

In England and Wales the bank holidays at the end of 2026 are Christmas Day on 25 December and the substitute Boxing Day on 28 December. They are days of rest, and they are also days of family photographs. If you want the splint and swelling behind you by then, discuss the date with the coordinator early, because preparation starts 21 days before the operation.

Can I do everything from Cardiff, including the follow-up?

The consultation, the 3D modelling discussion, the coordination and the recovery contact are all online, through WhatsApp and Telegram, with coordinators available 24/7. The operation itself and one day of inpatient stay take place at the clinic, and the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months are part of the recovery programme. Your coordinator will explain how each step is arranged when you book.

Does the hilly edge of Cardiff matter for recovery?

The centre is flat, but hills rise to the north, east and west, with Garth Hill reaching 307 m. If you live on a slope, arrange help with the first outings and avoid steep walks in the first days. After general anaesthesia you may feel tired, so keep the first trips short and ask the doctor when ordinary exercise, such as the Taff Trail, can resume.
