Some cases call for other answers

Nothing is spent needlessly: the doctor tells you at the consultation if an operation would not help in your case. Below are the situations in which a transplant genuinely helps.

A man with thinning hair at a consultation: a case where a hair transplant helps

When the answer is yes

  • Androgenetic or diffuse alopecia
  • A receding hairline
  • A high hairline
  • Insufficient hair density
  • Genetic features of hair growth
  • Aftermath of a burn or an injury
  • Shedding after an illness
  • Shedding due to a hormonal imbalance

Cannot tell which side you fall?

Leave a phone number and we take it from there: the coordinator asks for photos of the thinning area in a messenger, then a doctor tells you whether a transplant would help. Free, no operation booked.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

What gets asked

We share what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes. Nothing prevents treatment for someone whose home is a long way off, and online, the doctor examines your photographs beforehand.

Prices start at $2,200 (≈ €2,000) for FUE, $2,500 (≈ €2,250) for DHI, and $2,700 (≈ €2,450) for the combined method. Your final price is set after a free graft count and locked into the contract.

The whole thing wraps up in a day, after which you're home.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

No — local anaesthesia keeps the whole procedure pain-free.

With FUE, grafts are taken by tweezer with no incisions. With DHI, grafts are implanted directly using a Choi pen, without pre-made channels. The combined method mixes FUE harvesting with DHI implantation.

The doctor decides it on the basis of the donor area, and the consultation where this happens is free.

Give the scalp 0–10 days. The 2–4 week shed of transplanted hairs is a normal phase. Growth is well started at 3–4 months, density is strong at 6–9 months, and 12–18 months closes the process.

Hair growth is covered by a lifetime guarantee, fixed in the signed contract.

Clear answers about the operation for Nantes

FUE and DHI both work for a patient in Nantes. The skin is not cut open, there is nothing to stitch, local anaesthesia covers the session on its own, and the operation ends on the same day it began.

Begin from your own sofa if you are in Nantes. The online consultation is free of charge, the doctor studies pictures of the thinning area and gives a plain answer on whether a transplant helps. Contact is open 24/7.

The first 0-10 days are for healing; at 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs leave, which is the normal course; growth comes back at 3-4 months, density at 6-9, the final look at 12-18. Control visits at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, photos with a personal coordinator, growth guaranteed for life.

Oceanic air, soft rain and bright summers: what the Nantes climate asks of a healing scalp

Nantes sits in an oceanic climate (Cfb), 50 km from the Atlantic coast. For someone planning a hair transplant, this means the scalp is rarely exposed to extremes. The 1991-2020 averages at Nantes-Bouguenais give an annual mean high of 17.1 °C and a mean low of 8.3 °C. January averages 9.3 °C by day and 3.4 °C by night. July averages 25.1 °C and 14.3 °C, and August 25.4 °C and 14.2 °C. These are moderate figures, and they matter because a freshly treated scalp is sensitive to both strong heat and strong cold. In Nantes, neither normally dominates the first weeks of healing. The records of 42.1 °C and -15.6 °C show that exceptions do happen, so a sensible plan keeps both in mind.

Humidity is the most distinctive feature here. Relative humidity averages 81% over the year, reaching 89% in December and easing to 75% in July. Damp air does not harm grafts, and it is gentler on dry, itchy skin than the dry indoor heating of a continental winter. It does shape everyday habits, though. Wet hats, damp scarves and a hood pulled up during a shower of rain can all rub the treated area. During the consultation, the doctor explains how to wash the hair and what to wear on the head. In a damp city, the practical point is to choose headwear that is clean, dry and loose, and to avoid anything that holds moisture against the skin.

Sunshine is the second variable. Nantes receives 1,873.3 hours of sun a year, but the seasons differ sharply: August brings 232.6 hours, December only 77.6. The result is a winter with soft light and a summer with real exposure. For a person with thinning hair, the summer sun lands directly on the areas with the least cover, which is exactly where the transplanted hair will later grow. The service plan includes advice on headwear and on hair care, and in Nantes you can ask the doctor to adapt that advice to the sunniest weeks of the year. Early weeks of healing in a low-sun month such as December ask for less sun management than the same weeks in August.

Rain is frequent but not extreme. Annual precipitation is 819.5 mm, falling on 119.7 days with at least 1 mm. December is the wettest month at 101.0 mm and 13.5 rainy days, while July is the driest at 44.2 mm and 7.1 rainy days. Coordinators can talk this through on WhatsApp or Telegram around the clock. You can send photos of your scalp and ask how a rainy week affects the plan, and the doctor gives the medical answer during the consultation.

Lining up the growth months with the Nantes calendar

A hair transplant is slow. The stages in the plan are 0-10 days of healing, when crusts fall away and swelling settles. Then comes shedding of the transplanted hairs at 2-4 weeks, which is a normal stage in which only the hairs fall and the follicles stay in place. First growth appears at 3-4 months, density shows at 6-9 months, and the end result arrives at 12-18 months. Follow-up visits are at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Because the whole course spans more than a year, it is worth laying it across the calendar of the city where you live and work.

Take an illustrative example. Suppose the procedure is done in the second half of November 2026. The first ten days of healing would fall before the end of that month, in the wettest stretch of the year. In Nantes, November averages 94.1 mm of rain, and December is wetter still. The shedding stage would then come in December, among short days with only 77.6 hours of sun in the whole month. That is not a medical advantage in itself, but it means the shedding weeks pass in a season when people wear hats and hoods, and when a person does not need to explain thinner-looking hair at the summer festivals. First growth at 3-4 months would appear around February to March 2027. The stage of 6-9 months, when the main volume and contour become visible, would land between May and August 2027. The end result at 12-18 months would arrive between late 2027 and spring 2028.

Public holidays also matter, and France has 11 of them: 1 January, Easter Monday, 1 May, 8 May, Ascension, Whit Monday, 14 July, 15 August, 1 November, 11 November and 25 December. Several fall around the milestones above. A 3-month or 6-month follow-up photo check that coincides with a long weekend is easy to move, because it is done online and coordinators reply 24/7. Some patients prefer to plan the day of the procedure so that the rest period following it falls next to 25 December and 1 January, when the usual routine is already interrupted. Others choose a stretch after 11 November. Both are reasonable options, and the choice is yours, not a medical requirement.

The city's cultural rhythm offers a few further reference points. La Folle Journée, the classical music festival, fills five days each winter. Le Voyage à Nantes takes place every summer, and the Rendez-vous de l'Erdre jazz festival draws about 150,000 attendees in September. If you want to be at a particular event with your hair visibly recovered, remember that the sequence of healing, shedding and first growth is gradual. The doctor can say what a realistic appearance will be at a given month, based on your own photos and donor area.

Hats, helmets and the breeze off the Loire

Nantes lies on the Loire, whose estuary begins in the city and runs 60 km, with tides reaching up to 6 m. The Erdre joins from the north and the Sèvre Nantaise from the south. Moving air is a normal part of life near open water, and the city's elevation is low: the Butte Sainte-Anne reaches 38 m, the north-west high point 52 m, and the lowest points along the Loire 2 m. The practical consequence for hair is simple. Wind carries fine dust and, at times, moisture. The transplanted area, especially in the early healing days, should be kept clean, and the advice you receive on washing and on headwear is there for exactly this reason.

Headwear is where a damp, breezy city requires a little more thought than a dry one. After a transplant, the aim is to protect the recipient area without pressing on it. The care plan includes advice on headwear, so ask the doctor before buying anything specific. A hat that is too tight or a hood that tugs when the wind picks up can irritate the area. A wet cap that stays on for hours creates a different kind of irritation. Ask the doctor what applies to your stage of healing, and ask the coordinator to repeat it in writing in the chat, so you can look it up later when you are outside.

Nantes is a city of everyday cycling and trams, which bears on the question of sport and helmets. The Bicloo bike-sharing scheme has 880 bicycles at 103 stations, and the tramway has 3 lines covering 43.5 km. If you usually cycle, you will need a plan for a helmet in the early period. The service includes a plan for returning to sport and hair care, and a helmet is a good question to bring into that plan. Do not guess when to put one back on. Ask the doctor, who knows where your grafts were placed and how the donor area at the back of the head is healing. The same applies to a crowded tram in the wet season: an umbrella that sits well away from the head is a simple alternative to a hood.

Green space also shapes how people spend time outdoors here, since it covers 41% of the city, with 100 public parks over 218 ha. Spending time outdoors is good for recovery in general, but in the weeks of healing, think about shade and wind when you plan a walk. In summer, with 232.6 hours of sun in August, shade matters more than in winter. In winter, a loose, clean, dry hat matters more than a heavy one. These are matters of common sense, and the doctor will give the precise guidance for the days that follow your procedure.

Insurance and cosmetic work in France: what to clarify before you decide

Healthcare in France is broad. About 99.9% of the population is covered, the main fund insures 84% of the population, and the system generally refunds 70% of most costs. About 85% of people also hold complementary private insurance, known as a mutuelle. In 2020, the general regime had 59.2 million beneficiaries, and the national fund insured 88% of the population. These are national figures, and they describe the wider system, not a specific plan for a hair transplant.

On the question of cosmetic work, French insurers describe a clear distinction. Aesthetic surgery done for personal comfort is not paid by Sécurité sociale. There are exceptions for grave psychological or social harm, or for medical criteria, and they require an advance request, the entente préalable, which the operating doctor submits to the medical adviser of the fund. If there is no reply within 15 days, the request is deemed accepted, and the work must be done in a public or approved establishment. Reparative surgery after an accident, illness or malformation is a different category, and it is covered by Assurance Maladie. These are descriptions from an insurer's article, not an official ruling on your case.

What does this mean for a hair transplant online? Do not assume either way. A transplant for androgenetic alopecia is a planned procedure, and whether any part of it fits an insurance category depends on your contract and your situation. The honest approach is to ask your insurer or your mutuelle directly, in writing, before you decide. The service plan states that the price is set at the free consultation after the grafts are counted, and fixed in the contract. You can ask the coordinator for a written outline of the plan, so that you have something concrete to show your insurer.

A word on waiting times. A survey from 2010, which is old data, found that 53% of specialist appointments took place within a month and 28% took more than two months, and that 46% had elective surgery within a month while 7% waited four months or more. These figures are dated, and you should not treat them as current. They do illustrate one point: an online consultation, with a reply within 15 minutes and coordinators available round the clock, lets you start the conversation without waiting for a slot in a local calendar.

A city of students and busy schedules: planning a procedure without losing a term or a season

Nantes is a university city. The University of Nantes was founded in 1460 and counted 37,140 students in 2018-19 by the infobox figure, while the text gives roughly 34,500. A separate figure from 2013-14 put the metro area at 53,000 students. The city itself has 327,734 inhabitants (2023), the 6th largest in France, with an urban area of 689,036 and a metro area of 1,050,815. The area of the city is 65.19 km², with a density of 5,027 per km². It is the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique and of Pays de la Loire, which gives it the steady rhythm of a regional administrative centre.

This matters for planning, because the procedure itself takes one day, and the course of growth takes more than a year. That is a long span for someone whose life follows an academic year or a work calendar with fixed deadlines. The plan lets you think in stages. The first ten days are the visible healing period. The shedding stage at 2-4 weeks is the point where many people feel uncertain, and it helps to know in advance that it is normal. First growth at 3-4 months and density at 6-9 months are slower. A student might prefer to plan the day so that early healing falls in a quieter stretch of the term. A person with a job might prefer a period after a busy project. The right choice depends on your own calendar, not on a rule.

The consultation itself is online, so it does not require leaving work or lectures. You send photos on WhatsApp or Telegram, the doctor assesses them for free and gives a price, and you confirm the plan and the dates before anything is booked. A personal coordinator guides you from the first enquiry to recovery. This format suits people who live in a city of 327,734 where distances are short but days are full. Short messages between lessons or meetings are enough to keep the plan moving.

A few practical points on suitability. The plan lists conditions where a transplant helps, such as androgenetic or diffuse alopecia and bald patches. It also lists contraindications, including trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, being under 18, epilepsy, serious heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, a pacemaker, AIDS/HIV, hepatitis B/C, pulmonary embolism and patchy alopecia. For some people the problem may be solved without surgery, and the doctor will say so at the consultation. Do not wait for a perfect moment. Send photos, and the doctor will tell you whether a transplant is appropriate.

Does the damp Nantes climate affect how grafts heal?

The averages show relative humidity of 81% over the year, reaching 89% in December. Damp air is not a medical problem for healing, but it changes daily habits: wet hoods and hats can rub the scalp. The plan includes advice on washing your hair and on headwear, and you can ask the doctor to adapt it to the weather in your own healing weeks.

Is summer sun in Nantes a concern after a transplant?

Nantes gets 1,873.3 hours of sun a year, with 232.6 hours in August and only 77.6 in December. July highs average 25.1 °C. The treated area should be protected, and the doctor gives guidance on headwear and hair care. If your healing period falls in a sunny month, ask for specific advice about shade and hats at the consultation.

How do the French public holidays fit with the follow-up schedule?

Follow-up is at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and is tracked by photo, so a holiday does not cause a gap. France has 11 public holidays, including 1 November, 11 November and 25 December. Coordinators reply 24/7, so a check-in on a holiday is possible. Mention in your first chat which dates you want to avoid for the procedure.

If I cycle in Nantes, when can I wear a helmet again?

The service includes a plan for returning to sport and hair care, and a helmet belongs to that conversation. Nantes has the Bicloo scheme with 880 bicycles at 103 stations, so many people cycle. The doctor knows where the grafts were placed and how the donor area is healing, so ask for a specific answer for your case instead of guessing.

Will Sécurité sociale or my mutuelle pay for a hair transplant?

Do not assume. An insurer's article states that aesthetic surgery for personal comfort is not paid by Sécurité sociale, with exceptions for grave psychological or social harm or medical criteria, after an advance request. About 85% of people hold a mutuelle, but contracts differ. Ask your insurer in writing, and ask the coordinator for a written outline of the plan to show them.

When will the result be visible if the procedure is in November 2026?

Using the stages in the plan, healing covers the first 0-10 days, shedding comes at 2-4 weeks, and first growth at 3-4 months, around February to March 2027. Density shows at 6-9 months, and the end result arrives at 12-18 months. These ranges are guides, and the doctor explains what applies to your donor area and the number of grafts.

Can I start the process without leaving work or lectures?

Yes. The first consultation is online and free. You send photos by WhatsApp or Telegram, the doctor assesses them, and the price is fixed in the contract after the grafts are counted. A coordinator answers 24/7, which suits students and people with full schedules in a city of 327,734.

What if my case does not need a transplant?

The doctor will say so at the consultation. The plan lists conditions where a transplant helps and contraindications such as diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, a pacemaker and being under 18. In some cases the problem may be solved without surgery. Sending photos costs nothing and does not commit you to booking.
