A doctor turns some patients down

If your case can be solved without surgery, you will hear that right at the consultation — and you will not waste your money. Below are the conditions where a transplant really works.

A man with thinning hair at a consultation: a case where a hair transplant helps

What the method fixes

  • Androgenetic or diffuse alopecia
  • A receding hairline
  • A high hairline
  • Insufficient hair density
  • Genetic traits of hair growth
  • Results of an injury or a burn
  • Shedding post-illness
  • Shedding tied to hormonal imbalance

Still unsure where you stand?

A phone number is all it takes. The coordinator collects close-up pictures through a messenger, a doctor reviews them and says whether a transplant would help. No fee, and no operation is booked.

Beard transplant

Grafts come from the donor area at the back of the head and are placed through micro-punctures about 1 mm across, and no scars are left. The shape is discussed with you before the operation, with your facial features taken into account. Transplanted hair grows for life: trim and style the beard as usual.

During the initial consultation the surgeon draws the eyebrow shape: you look through references together, and the design takes your facial features into account. The hairs are implanted at the right angle, so the eyebrows look natural — and it helps where plucking has stopped hair growth.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Typical queries

We answer what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Of course. City Medical Centre works with people from many cities and many countries; an online appointment is offered before anything is agreed.

FUE: $2,200 (≈ £1,700). DHI: $2,500 (≈ £1,900). Combined: $2,700 (≈ £2,050). A free consultation and graft count gives you the final, contract-fixed price with no hidden extras.

You spend a day on it and return home once it finishes.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

No — a local anesthetic removes sensation for the whole operation.

FUE means tweezer-based, incision-free graft harvesting. DHI means channel-free implantation with a Choi pen. Combined DHI+FUE uses FUE for harvesting and the DHI pen for implanting.

No estimate is given without an examination; the doctor performs the count at no charge using the donor area.

Healing is done within 0–10 days. The shed at 2–4 weeks is expected, not a failure. Hair grows from 3–4 months, looks thick around 6–9 months, with the end result appearing at 12–18 months.

You get a lifetime hair growth guarantee, written into the contract.

Hair transplant for patients in Liverpool: what it looks like

A hair transplant by FUE or DHI works for a resident of Liverpool exactly as it does for anyone else: no cuts, no stitches, local anaesthesia, one day. Graft survival reaches 98-100 %, and a price from $2,200 (≈ £1,700) is written into the contract after a free graft count.

You can begin in Liverpool without leaving home: the online consultation is free, and the doctor looks at photos of the thinning area and counts how many grafts it will take. The clinic is reachable 24/7, so a message fits your schedule.

Healing needs 0-10 days of your patience and nothing else. Then at 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed, a normal turn of events. Growth starts at 3-4 months and continues long after that first sign of it.

Hair Transplant in Liverpool: price and what is included

Prices are in US dollars; the amount in brackets is an approximate conversion to GBP at the rate of 02.10.2026. The final price is fixed in your contract.

Hair Transplant in Liverpool: questions patients ask

How long is recovery after a hair transplant?

The transplant itself is a one-day procedure under local anaesthesia. Healing runs 0–10 days, and the doctor sets the check-ups.

How do I book a hair transplant for a date that suits me?

Message the coordinator with your preferred dates. The first consultation is free, and you can start it online; the clinic then confirms which dates are open, and only after that is anything booked.

How does the doctor estimate my grafts online?

From photos you send in the chat: front hairline, top, crown and the back of the head (donor area). Add your age and any previous transplant; the graft count and the price follow from the review.

How do I start planning a hair transplant from Liverpool?

Write to us on WhatsApp or Telegram or leave a request on this page. The coordinator asks for the photos and health details the doctor needs, and the doctor gives you a free assessment and a price.

How long before an event should I have a hair transplant?

For the scalp to look healed, allow at least 10 days: healing takes 0–10 days. Transplanted hairs shed normally at 2–4 weeks, growth starts at 3–4 months and the final result shows at 12–18 months.

Planning a hair transplant around a Mersey winter and a short summer

Liverpool sits on the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary, close to the Irish Sea, and the weather reflects that. The Met Office normals for 1991 to 2020, recorded at the Crosby station about 11 km from the city centre, put the average daily maximum at 7.5 °C in January and 20.0 °C in July. For a hair transplant this matters less than people expect, because the operation itself takes one day and happens under local anaesthesia. What the season changes is the weeks that follow, when the scalp is healing and the new grafts need protection.

A transplant done in the colder months means the first days of healing coincide with early darkness, damp air and the need for a hat when you step outside. A plain, loose, clean cotton cap is the sensible choice: it keeps wind and drizzle off the scalp without rubbing the recipient area. The clinic coordinator will tell you exactly when a cap may be worn and how it should be washed, so photograph your usual headwear and send it with your first message if you are unsure what is suitable.

A transplant done in spring or summer brings the opposite concern. Bright sun on a freshly treated scalp is something to avoid, and the first 0 to 10 days of healing are the period when crusts form and then fall away. Plan those days so that you can stay indoors or in shade. We do not give a date by which you can book a beach day or a sunbed session; your doctor will say when sun exposure is acceptable for your particular case.

One more seasonal detail concerns the hours of daylight. Crosby records only 46.8 hours of sunshine in December and 56.0 in January, against 207.0 in May. A winter patient will therefore photograph the healing area under indoor light, and it is worth agreeing with your coordinator at what time of day and in which room you take the progress pictures, so that each set is comparable with the last. Use the same lamp, the same distance and the same angle each time.

Write down your own constraints before you pick a month: school runs, shift patterns, an event you must attend with your head uncovered, a holiday booked long ago. Then send that list with your photographs. A coordinator who knows the constraints can suggest a start date that keeps the quiet healing days away from your busiest ones, and that conversation costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.

Wind, rain and the first ten days of healing

Liverpool records rain spread across the whole year. The Crosby normals show monthly precipitation between 49.8 mm in April and 91.9 mm in December, with a yearly total of 824.3 mm. So there is no single dry month to wait for, and it is more practical to prepare for rain than to try to schedule around it. After a FUE or DHI procedure the donor area at the back of the head and the treated area both need to stay clean, and a heavy downpour is a reason to arrange a lift or work from home rather than to walk with an uncovered head.

The healing stage lasts 0 to 10 days. During that time the crusts fall away, the swelling subsides and the area slowly recovers. Practical points worth settling before the operation day include who will wash your pillowcase, where you will sleep, how you will keep your head out of a shower jet and what you will wear that does not need to be pulled over the head. A button-front shirt is easier than a jumper, and a soft scarf is better than a tight collar.

Nobody stays overnight for this. You arrive in the morning, the work is done in a single sitting, and you are back in your own bed by evening. Afterwards you receive written guidance for the grafted zone and for the donor zone at the back, covering washing, sleeping position, headwear and a sensible return to sport. Your coordinator is awake whenever you are, in WhatsApp and in Telegram, so a Liverpool patient can ask in the evening whether a certain hat or a certain walk in the drizzle is acceptable.

Think also about the commute. If your working day involves a hard hat, a helmet, a headset or a uniform cap, tell the coordinator before the operation, because anything that presses on the donor or recipient area is something to plan around. The same goes for a bicycle helmet. Nobody expects you to guess; ask, and write the answer on a note beside your front door.

Evenings matter too. After a day of travel through a wet city it is tempting to rub a tired head, to scratch an itch or to pull a hood up quickly, and each of these is exactly what the grafted zone does not want. Keep a soft towel by the door, dab rather than rub, and leave the hood for later unless your coordinator has said otherwise. Small habits like these cost nothing and protect the weeks of work that came before.

Shedding, regrowth and the calendar year

Hair does not return quickly, and it helps to lay the stages against a wall calendar. The first ten days are for healing. Somewhere between the second and fourth week the new hairs drop out, which is expected and leaves the follicles untouched. Fresh growth begins around month three or four, thickness builds up by month six to nine, and the settled outcome, with its final density and natural front edge, is judged at twelve to eighteen months. Check-ups fall at months one, three, six, nine and twelve.

If you want visible density by a wedding, a graduation or a milestone birthday, count backwards from that date by at least a year and a half. Someone who starts in November will be in the shedding phase over the Christmas period and will see first growth around spring. Someone who starts in May will go through shedding in June and see first growth in the autumn. Neither is better; the point is to avoid expecting a full head of hair a few months after surgery, because the stages above are how follicles behave.

England keeps a regular rhythm of bank holidays, and the government list for 2027 gives 1 January, Good Friday on 26 March, Easter Monday on 29 March, 3 May, 31 May and 30 August. A long weekend can cover the roughest part of the healing days and cost fewer working days. To learn which dates are open, message the coordinator: the clinic confirms the nearest free slots for the consultation and for the operation before you plan anything.

A useful habit is to keep a photo diary. Take a picture on the day of the operation, at the end of the first week, and then once a month, always in the same light. The shedding weeks can look discouraging when seen in the mirror alone, while the diary shows the slow change that the check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months are designed to follow.

What the NHS covers and what it does not for hair restoration

The NHS states that cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided and may occasionally be provided for psychological or other health reasons. A hair transplant for pattern hair loss or a receding front edge is, in the ordinary case, a decision made outside the NHS pathway. If your hair loss is linked to an illness, to medication or to a scalp condition, your GP is the right first contact, because some types of hair loss need treatment before any transplant is considered.

Our approach matches this. A transplant works for stable pattern loss and a receding front edge, provided the donor zone holds enough grafts, while some forms of alopecia need their own treatment first. The doctor decides that at the consultation, and it is better to hear it early than after booking. Several situations rule a transplant out: compulsive hair pulling, a body image disorder, cancer, being under 18, a pacemaker, epilepsy, diabetes, a serious heart condition, an allergy to anaesthetics, a past pulmonary embolism, and hair loss that comes from illness or hormones. If one of these describes you, say so in your first message.

The consultation is free and binds you to nothing. You set the speed, and no date is held until you have read the plan and agreed to it.

If you already use a prescribed treatment for hair loss, or if a relative has told you that your thinning is temporary, bring that up as well. The doctor works from your photographs and your history, and the more of it that is on the table at the start, the fewer surprises appear later in the plan.

How a consultation works when you live in Liverpool

The first step happens on your phone. You message the coordinator in WhatsApp or Telegram, and the team is available around the clock, so a message sent after work or at the weekend is read. You receive a free assessment based on the photographs you send, and the doctor counts the grafts you need from your donor area. Nothing about this requires you to leave Liverpool.

Good photographs make the assessment faster. Send the front front edge, the top of the scalp, the crown and the back of the head, taken in daylight or under an ordinary ceiling light with no filter and with dry hair. Mention your age, whether you have had a transplant before, and any medication you take. Photographs of an older picture of yourself, where you had the front edge you would like, can help the doctor see what you have in mind.

Prepare a short list of questions in advance. Ask which method suits you, FUE, DHI or the combined protocol, and why. Ask how many grafts are needed and what density is realistic. Ask what the healing days will involve in the month you have in mind, and what you must stop doing before the operation. Ask when follow-up visits at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months will take place and how progress is tracked by photograph with your coordinator.

You will know the final figure before choosing a date: it is fixed after the graft count and written into your contract.

If you are comparing options, do it calmly. Ask for the method, the graft count and the aftercare plan in writing, and keep the answers next to each other. A short, clear reply from a coordinator at midnight is as much a part of the service as the operation itself, because the questions of a Liverpool patient usually arrive in the evening, once work is over and the day has gone quiet.

Will the Liverpool wind and rain damage new grafts?

Ordinary weather is not the concern in the first days. What matters is keeping the scalp clean and protected, so wear the headwear your coordinator approves and avoid heavy exposure to wind and wet during the 0 to 10 days of healing.

Is it better to have a transplant in winter or summer?

Either works. Winter calls for a loose, clean cap and care with damp air, while summer calls for shade because the Crosby normals show about 197 hours of sunshine in July. The doctor and coordinator will help you choose a date that suits your own diary.

Can I fit the healing days around my working week?

The operation takes one day, and healing then takes 0 to 10 days. Many people book a Friday or a date next to a bank holiday so that fewer working days are affected. Your coordinator can discuss the nearest open dates.

Does the NHS cover a hair transplant?

The NHS says cosmetic surgery is not routinely provided, so a transplant for pattern hair loss is normally arranged outside the NHS. If you suspect your hair loss has a medical cause, speak to your GP first.

What should I do if my hair sheds a few weeks after the operation?

Shedding at 2 to 4 weeks is a normal stage. Only the transplanted hairs fall out and the follicles stay in place. If you are worried, send your coordinator a photograph.

How do I send my photographs from Liverpool?

Send them in WhatsApp or Telegram to the coordinator. Take the front front edge, the top, the crown and the back of the head, with dry hair and no filter.

Can I swim in the sea or a pool after the transplant?

Your doctor will give you the date from which swimming is allowed. Until then, keep the scalp out of the sea, a pool and hot baths. Ask at the consultation so that you know before you plan your summer.

Will follow-up take place online?

Check-ups are set at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and your coordinator tracks progress by photograph. Ask at the consultation exactly how each check-up is arranged.

I work outdoors near the river. Does that change my plan?

It can. Wind, spray and dust are hard on a healing scalp, so tell your coordinator what your job involves. The doctor will advise how many days to stay away from outdoor work and what protection to use afterwards.

Should I keep taking my usual medicines before the operation?

Do not change any prescribed medicine on your own. List everything you take in your first message, including supplements, and the doctor will say what must be paused and what must continue.
