How it goes
An agreed plan for the correction, observation in hospital and recovery monitoring for a year.
1The surgeon looks at your figure, talks through your wishes and picks the best volume, shape and correction method.
2Your surgery date is reserved for you: the deposit can be paid by card at the clinic or online by bank transfer, and the terms are fixed in the medical services contract
3Before surgery you complete a full set of tests: blood tests, an ECG and other examinations prescribed by the doctor.
4Mammoplasty is performed according to your individual plan. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia while your condition is monitored throughout.
5Following surgery, you recover in a comfortable inpatient ward of the clinic with the medical team looking after you until discharge.
6After surgery you receive a recovery programme. Check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months track your progress, and consultations with your surgeon are free for a year.

Some simple steps help before surgery: a healthy work-life balance, more sleep, avoiding stress, anxiety and strong emotions, and less physical activity.
Discontinue hormonal oral contraceptives at least a month ahead of the procedure
Ahead of surgery, pause any aspirin-containing medicines, steroids and hormonal drugs taken for chronic conditions
Get your tests a week ahead of surgery
Swelling after surgery goes away after 3 weeks
Within 3 weeks, scars form
No heavy exertion (lifting more than 3 kg)
Keep arms below shoulder level — 3 weeks
After the correction, recovery involves 1–1.5 months of compression garments
For as long as 40 days, stay away from intense gym workouts and overly active aerobics; light cardio is possible after a month. Monitor your diet and meals.
Discomfort fades after 3 months
Skip baths and saunas for up to three months and avoid physiotherapy
Over 3 months, all inflammatory changes in the tissue resolve and a “pocket” forms around the implant

FAQ
Yes. Boob job is the everyday name for breast augmentation. At City Medical Centre it is done with round or anatomical implants that the surgeon chooses with you at the consultation.
Breast enlargement adds volume with implants. A breast lift (mastopexy) raises sagging breasts and removes excess skin. Which one suits you is decided at the free consultation.
Mammoplasty brings together several procedures: augmentation (implants to add volume), reduction (removal of surplus tissue and skin), mastopexy (lift for sagging breasts), reconstruction (after mastectomy) and asymmetry correction. The most suitable method is selected individually, guided by your wishes and the surgeon's advice.

When all recommendations are followed, complications are rare. They can include hematoma or seroma, wound infection, reduced or heightened nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, aesthetic asymmetry, wound separation and tissue necrosis.
Mammoplasty gives a lasting result: around 10–15 years after augmentation (up to implant replacement) and 5–10 years after a lift or reduction. How long it holds depends on weight, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity. To keep the result, wear supportive underwear and keep your weight under control.
Whether breastfeeding remains possible after mammoplasty depends on the type of operation. With augmentation via an under-breast or armpit incision and the implant beneath the muscle, lactation is usually preserved, as the glandular tissue is spared. After a lift or reduction the risk is higher because ducts may be cut. Talk it through with your surgeon beforehand.
Implants are chosen by material (silicone appears most natural, saline is used less frequently), shape (round or anatomical teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), size and profile. Your surgeon selects the option that best suits your anatomy and wishes.
The operation is done under general anaesthesia, so the patient feels nothing. Over the first 1–3 days moderate discomfort may occur and is eased with painkillers. By day 5–7 pain drops noticeably, and by weeks 2–3 the discomfort has gone. If the pain is severe, let your doctor know at once.
You can get back to work (no physical exertion) in 7–14 days. Light walks in 1–2 weeks. Fitness and swimming in 4–6 weeks, strength training in 3 months. Pool and sea in 4–6 weeks. Keep wearing compression garments for 4–6 weeks. The precise timing depends on your own recovery.
No scientific data suggest that mammoplasty increases breast cancer risk, and implants are not carcinogenic. After the operation, continue regular screening: self-examination, mammography and ultrasound. Always tell the doctor who examines you about your implants.
Mammoplasty after a C-section is an option, though the body should recover fully beforehand. Wait at least 6–12 months after delivery and after you finish breastfeeding. You will need a surgeon's consultation and check-up before surgery.
Mammoplasty leaves scars, yet a skilled surgeon makes them minimal. Incisions are made where they are hidden: under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. Scars are reddish at first, and within 6–12 months they fade until they are almost invisible.
Mild asymmetry in the first weeks after surgery is normal and results from swelling and uneven healing. If a difference in shape or size remains after 3–6 months, see your surgeon for an examination to identify the cause.
Following mammoplasty, the nipples and breasts may temporarily become less or more sensitive. Irritated nerve endings are the cause. In most cases normal sensitivity returns within 3–12 months. With no improvement after a year, visit your surgeon.
There is no direct effect of hormonal drugs (contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy) on implants, but swelling or changes in breast tissue volume may occur and temporarily affect appearance. Let your surgeon know about these medications before surgery.

This operation suits adult women who wish to restore or increase breast volume, including after childbirth once the body has fully recovered. Surgeons advise waiting at least 6–12 months after giving birth and after breastfeeding ends. Patients from Mannheim considering it after a C-section can go ahead too, but a consultation and check-up are mandatory first.
Recovery follows a clear timeline. Swelling subsides in about three weeks, scars form over the same period, and discomfort fades by three months. Compression garments are worn for 1–1.5 months, arms should not be raised above shoulder level for three weeks, and baths or saunas are off-limits for up to three months. Patients from Mannheim get detailed care advice from the surgeon.

I went to Dmitry Sergeyevich for breast augmentation with implants. At the consultation everything was explained in detail, and together we chose the best size. The operation under combined anaesthesia took 2 hours, and I was discharged home the next day. The swelling went down in about a month, and my breasts look very natural. The year of follow-up care is a real lifesaver: you can always ask a question and get an answer. Thank you to the clinic!

Breast augmentation is planned around ordinary life: work, family and the weeks when your calendar is already full. For a patient in Mannheim the yearly rhythm has a few clear landmarks. The Maimarkt begins on the last Saturday in April and runs for eleven days; in 2025 it ran from 26 April to 6 May. The Mannheimer Mess fair is held twice a year, in spring and in autumn. The Universität Mannheim had 11,933 students in the winter semester of 2023/24, so students and university staff also have a semester timetable to think about.
None of this changes the medical side, but it helps you choose a window. The plan for this operation is simple to describe: one day at the clinic, general anaesthesia, and a return to work without physical exertion after 7–14 days. A desk-based job is therefore usually the easiest to arrange. If your work involves lifting, carrying or long periods with the arms raised, you need a longer buffer, because the first three weeks bring restrictions: no lifting over 3 kg and no raising the arms above shoulder level.
A practical way to plan is to count backwards from the date you want to feel normal again. Suppose you want to be comfortable at a family event in the second half of December 2026. A surgery date of 10 November 2026 would put the return to desk work at about 17–24 November, the end of the three-week swelling and scar phase at about 1 December, and the 40-day limit on intense gym training at about 20 December. Those are examples of arithmetic, not promises: the exact timing depends on how your own recovery goes, and the doctor confirms it with you.
If you have children, the school holiday calendar matters as well. In the first three weeks you should not lift anything over 3 kg, and that includes a small child or a heavy school bag. Think about who will help with school runs and shopping during that time. Spouses, relatives and friends are often the most valuable part of the plan, so tell the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram which weeks are realistic for you and which are not. The consultation is free, and the coordinators answer round the clock, so the calendar question can be settled in the evening after work.
The compression garment is the part of recovery that you notice every hour of the day, and the weather decides how comfortable it feels. According to the recovery schedule it is worn for 1–1.5 months while you recover from the correction. In Mannheim that period can fall into very different conditions. The city lies in the Upper Rhine Plain, described as Germany's warmest region. The mean daily maximum is 27.7 °C in July, 26.3 °C in August and 25.6 °C in June.
If your garment weeks fall in those months, think about fabric and layers. A close-fitting garment under a loose cotton top is more comfortable than extra layers on top of it. Humidity in July averages 66%, which is lower than in winter, so the heat is usually dry rather than heavy. Sunshine reaches 8.3 hours a day in July and 8.0 hours in June, so bright light is another reason to plan loose, light outer clothing. Ask the doctor during the consultation about hygiene and skin care under the garment; do not improvise.
Winter is a different story. The mean daily maximum in January is 6.0 °C, with a minimum of 0.2 °C, and the minimum in February is 0.6 °C. Relative humidity reaches about 84% from November to January, and sunshine drops to 1.4 hours a day in December and January. A garment worn in cold, damp weather is rarely a problem, but the coat is: sleeves must be easy to put on without raising your arms above shoulder level, which is not allowed for 3 weeks. A wide coat, a cape or a front-opening jacket makes mornings much easier than a tight, narrow sleeve.
Spring and autumn sit between these extremes. April is the driest month with 32 mm of rain, while May and June are the wettest with 69 mm each; annual precipitation is 578 mm over 153 rainy days. Carrying an umbrella and a bag with one hand, without lifting more than 3 kg, is a small detail worth rehearsing before the operation. Pack a light bag, keep the heavy shopping for someone else, and treat the 1–1.5 months of compression as a fixed part of the season rather than an inconvenience.
Many patients ask first about swimming, and the answer follows the schedule from the medical plan. Fitness and swimming are possible from 4–6 weeks, and the pool or the sea from 4–6 weeks as well, while baths, saunas and physiotherapy are not allowed for up to three months. Mannheim sits at the mouth of the Neckar into the Rhine, at an elevation of 97 m above NHN, so rivers are part of the landscape. Still, the schedule is the same whether you swim in a pool, in open water or at the sea: not earlier than 4–6 weeks, and only if your own recovery is going as expected.
Count with a date. With a surgery date of 10 November 2026, 4–6 weeks leads to roughly 8–22 December 2026. That means a winter swimming session in a heated pool is realistic around the holidays, while a warm-weather swim in the open air belongs to the following summer anyway. The three-month limit for baths and saunas ends around 10 February 2027. If you like a sauna evening in the cold months, mark that date and do not move it forward on your own.
Sport and upper-body work need the most patience. Do not lift over 3 kg for 3 weeks, and do not raise the arms above shoulder level during the same period. After that, intense gym training is skipped for up to 40 days, and overly active aerobics should be avoided. Light cardio may be possible after a month. Strength training comes back from 3 months. If you train the chest, shoulders or back regularly, this is the longest pause in the schedule, and it helps to tell your trainer early so that a lower-body or walking programme can fill the gap.
Easy walks are possible from 1–2 weeks, and they are useful because they keep you moving without loading the chest. Think about the diet too: the recovery advice asks you to pay attention to your diet and meals, and a stable weight helps maintain the shape over the years. Weight changes, pregnancy, skin ageing and gravity all affect how long the result lasts, so the sport plan is only one part of the story. Whatever your sport, agree each step with the doctor during the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.
In Germany about 92% of the population is covered by statutory health insurance, and as of 2024 about 88% of the working population is insured through statutory funds and about 11% privately. For breast augmentation this matters in a very practical way. The statutory system does not pay for cosmetic procedures done at the patient's request, and the same is stated for cosmetic surgery in general: the patient bears the full financial burden, including lost income. Breast augmentation for appearance falls into this group.
There is a second point that people often overlook: sick leave. After a medically not indicated procedure, insured persons must share in the costs of resulting complications, including sick pay. Insurers may restrict or refuse benefits under § 52 SGB V, and there is no entitlement to continued wage payment (Entgeltfortzahlung) in that case. For planning this means a simple thing: do not count on a sick note to cover the recovery weeks. Agree annual leave, flexible hours or unpaid time with your employer in advance, and plan the dates so that the 7–14 days before a return to desk work are covered.
The demand is not small. Breast procedures in Germany nearly doubled between 2017 and 2022, reaching about 76,650 breast augmentations, 31,950 breast lifts and 24,170 breast reductions, according to a documentary cited in the reference material. The number shows that this is a common conversation between patients and doctors, and that there is nothing unusual about asking detailed questions about leave, cost sharing and follow-up.
At City Medical Centre the final figure is named by the doctor at the free online consultation and fixed in the contract, so you know the amount before anything is booked. The first check-up is at 7 days, and further check-ups follow at 3 and 6 months. Consultations with the doctor are free for a year. If a question about your German insurance remains open, ask your own insurer directly; the coordinator can tell you what medical documents the clinic provides, but cannot decide on coverage for you.
Mannheim is a large urban area: the city had 319,536 inhabitants on 31 December 2025, on 144.97 km2, and the metropolitan area is given as 2,362,046 people in a 2012 figure. With that many people living a busy working life, an online first step is practical. You send a few photos by WhatsApp or Telegram, the coordinator replies, and the doctor assesses your breast shape and proportions and tells you whether augmentation suits you. If your concern can be solved without an operation, the doctor says so, so you do not pay for surgery you do not need.
The consultation covers the questions that matter before any date is set. Is the issue low volume, asymmetry, a loss of volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or a change of shape after weight loss? Would a round implant, which gives more fullness in the upper breast, or an anatomical one, with a soft teardrop slope, fit your anatomy? Which material, surface, size and profile does the doctor suggest? Round and anatomical implants enlarge and reshape the breast in different ways, and the choice is made together with you.
Some conditions mean the operation is not suitable: pregnancy and breastfeeding, acute infectious diseases, inflammation or damaged skin in the operated area, decompensated chronic diseases, age under 18, uncorrected blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, and malignant breast tumours before treatment is complete. Say honestly what applies to you. Preparation also has a timetable: hormonal oral contraceptives are stopped at least one month before, aspirin-containing drugs, steroids and hormonal medications for chronic conditions 1–2 weeks before, and tests are done a week before the operation.
On the day itself the stay is one day at the clinic, under general anaesthesia, with monitoring by medical staff round the clock. Dressings and check-ups for a full year are part of the plan. Tissue is free of inflammatory changes within about 3 months, when a pocket surrounds the implant, and discomfort fades after 3 months. Write down your own dates, your garment weeks and your sport plan, and bring that list to the consultation: it makes the conversation short and concrete.
Both have advantages. The garment is worn for 1–1.5 months. In July the mean daily maximum is 27.7 °C, so a close garment under loose cotton is needed, while in January the maximum is 6.0 °C and the main task is choosing a coat with easy sleeves. The choice depends more on your leave and family calendar than on the weather.
The schedule allows fitness and swimming from 4–6 weeks, and the pool or the sea from 4–6 weeks as well. Baths, saunas and physiotherapy are not allowed for up to three months. With surgery on 10 November 2026, that means about 8–22 December 2026 for the pool and about 10 February 2027 for a sauna. The doctor confirms the timing at your check-ups.
In Germany statutory health insurance does not pay for cosmetic procedures done at the patient's request. About 92% of the population is covered by statutory insurance, but breast augmentation for appearance is outside the benefits. If you have a specific medical question, ask your insurer directly.
Do not count on it. After a medically not indicated procedure, insurers may restrict or refuse benefits under § 52 SGB V, and there is no entitlement to continued wage payment in that case. Arrange annual leave or other time off with your employer, covering at least the 7–14 days before a return to desk work.
The Maimarkt begins on the last Saturday in April and lasts eleven days, and the Mannheimer Mess fair is held in spring and autumn. If you plan to attend, remember the 3-week limit on lifting over 3 kg and raising arms above shoulder level, and the 40-day limit on intense gym training. Schedule surgery so that those dates are already behind you.
The Universität Mannheim had 11,933 students in the winter semester of 2023/24, so many patients have a semester timetable. A return to work or study without physical exertion is possible after 7–14 days, but check the timetable for lab, sport or practical sessions. Tell the coordinator your key dates and the doctor will help you choose a window.
Yes. The first online consultation is free. The coordinator asks for a few photos in a messenger, the doctor reviews them, and you receive an assessment and a plan. The final amount is named by the doctor and fixed in the contract, and nothing is booked until you confirm the plan and the dates.
