Did Pierre-François Martin-Laval have a hair transplant? Yes — he said so himself
Pierre-François Martin-Laval, the actor and director known to French audiences as the former Robin des Bois of the Les Inconnus troupe, does not hide his views on cosmetic surgery — and he counts himself among its users. On Bernard Montiel's RFM show in October 2023 he said plainly that he had hair implants done, and explained exactly why. Here are his words and an overview of the procedure.

What did Pierre-François Martin-Laval say about his hair implants?
Speaking on Une heure avec, Bernard Montiel's programme on the radio station RFM, Martin-Laval made a short, matter-of-fact admission, quoted by Purepeople on 10 October 2023: “Moi-même, j'ai fait des implants.” — I myself had implants done.

WhatsAppThe motive he named was refreshingly practical: “Parce que ça m'énervait de porter tout le temps des perruques” — because it annoyed him to wear wigs all the time. He described the operation just as simply: “on me prend quelques cheveux là et on me les met là” — they take some hair from here and put it there. At the same time he drew a line: he contrasted his modest procedure with what he sees as dangerous extremes of cosmetic surgery, and said he worries about the effect on young audiences — he is the father of three daughters.
That is all this article relies on: his own words from the radio interview. He did not name a clinic, a doctor, a technique or a year, so nothing about his treatment is guessed here. What follows describes hair transplantation in general.
What his honesty adds to the picture
An admission like this does two things. It normalises the procedure for men who assumed hair surgery was either a secret or a scandal — here it is an actor in his fifties saying, on national radio, that he simply got tired of wigs. And it keeps the expectation honest: the operation he described is a redistribution of existing hair, not the creation of new hair.

That single sentence — they take some hair from here and put it there — is the most accurate one-line summary of a transplant most patients ever hear.
His warning about excess is worth keeping next to it. A hair transplant is elective surgery with real limits, and the measure of a good result is a natural hairline, not the biggest possible number of grafts.

How a hair transplant works today
A modern hair transplant is an outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia. Follicles are taken one by one from the donor area at the back of the head and temples, where hair is resistant to genetic thinning, and implanted where hair is missing — at the hairline, on the crown, or in the eyebrows and beard. The main techniques are:
- FUE — grafts are extracted individually through tiny punctures and placed into channels the surgeon prepares in advance. No linear scar, no stitches.
- DHI — grafts are implanted directly with a Choi implanter pen without pre-made channels, which gives fine control over angle and direction.

A combined approach — FUE extraction with DHI implantation — is also used, at $2,700. Which option fits depends on the extent of hair loss and the state of the donor area, so the choice is made at a consultation.
Who is a good candidate, and how to prepare
A transplant works best when the donor area is dense enough and the hair loss follows a stable pattern. Typical reasons to consider it:
- a receding hairline and thinning temples, the kind of annoyance Martin-Laval described;
- thinning at the crown or overall low density;
- hair loss after illness, stress or hormonal changes, once they have settled.
Contraindications include patchy (focal) alopecia, age under 18, trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, severe heart disease, diabetes mellitus, epilepsy and intolerance to anaesthetics. Before the operation the doctor names the tests needed and asks you to stop alcohol and blood-thinning medicines for the period he specifies; on the day of surgery the donor area is trimmed short.
What recovery and results look like
You go home the same day. Over the first ten days the scalp heals and small crusts fall off; the doctor explains how to wash the hair and how to sleep so the grafts are not disturbed. Transplanted hairs usually shed in weeks two to four — that is normal, the follicles stay under the skin — and new growth starts after three to four months.
Density becomes clearly visible at six to nine months, and the final result is assessed at 12–18 months.
That is the timeline to keep in mind when listening to celebrity confessions: the full result of Martin-Laval's implants, like anyone's, was only visible months after the operation itself.

How hair transplant results usually develop
- Day of surgeryLocal anaesthesia, grafts are taken and implanted; you go home the same day.
- Days 1–10Redness, swelling and small crusts; you follow the washing and sleeping instructions.
- Weeks 2–4Transplanted hairs shed. This is expected: the follicles remain under the skin.
- Months 3–4New hair begins to grow, often fine at first.
- Months 6–9Density becomes clearly visible.
- Months 12–18The final result can be assessed.

Frequently asked questions
Did Pierre-François Martin-Laval have a hair transplant?
Yes. On Bernard Montiel's RFM show in October 2023 he said: “Moi-même, j'ai fait des implants” — he had hair implants done because he was tired of wearing wigs.
Why did Pierre-François Martin-Laval have hair implants?
He said it annoyed him to wear wigs all the time, and described the operation simply: hair is taken from one place and put in another. He is critical of extreme cosmetic surgery and worries about its influence on young audiences.
Did he name the clinic or the doctor?
No. He named neither, and this article does not guess — it describes hair transplantation in general, not his treatment.
Is a hair transplant permanent?
Transplanted follicles come from the back of the head, where hair resists genetic loss, so they usually keep growing for life. Native hair around them can still thin, which the doctor plans for.
How much does a hair transplant cost at City Medical Centre?
Prices start at $2,200 for FUE, $2,500 for DHI and $2,700 for the combined method. The final price is given after the free consultation and fixed in the contract.
