What her words say about the decision

Her explanation is simple and personal: she describes a body type with very little breast tissue and a long-standing complex, not a passing trend. That is one of the most common reasons women consider augmentation. She also spoke openly about the next step many patients eventually face. Breast implants are not lifetime devices: they usually last about 10–15 years before replacement is considered, so a conversation about the long term belongs in the very first consultation.

How breast augmentation is done today

Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes on average 1.5 to 3 hours, followed by one day in hospital. Implants are chosen together with the surgeon:

  • Filling — silicone or saline.
  • Shape — round or anatomical (teardrop).
  • Surface — smooth or textured; size and profile are matched to the chest and body proportions.

Who it suits, and how to prepare

Augmentation is considered for a small breast size, asymmetry, or loss of volume after pregnancy or weight loss. After childbirth it is advisable to wait at least 6–12 months after birth and after breastfeeding ends. Before surgery patients have blood tests, a coagulation panel, infection tests, an ECG, a chest X-ray and a breast ultrasound. Aspirin-type drugs, steroids and hormonal drugs are stopped in advance (oral contraceptives at least a month before), always with the doctor's approval.

Recovery

Moderate discomfort is usual on days 1–3 and eases a lot by days 5–7. Most patients return to non-physical work after 7–14 days. Compression garments are worn for 4–6 weeks; swimming and fitness come back after 4–6 weeks and strength training after three months. Swelling settles in about a month, scars fade over 6–12 months and full recovery takes 3–6 months.

How recovery after breast augmentation usually goes

  1. Day of surgeryGeneral anaesthesia, 1.5–3 hours of surgery, then one day in hospital.
  2. Days 1–7Moderate discomfort for the first three days, much less by days 5–7.
  3. Days 7–14Return to work without physical exertion.
  4. About 1 monthSwelling subsides and the breasts take on a natural shape and softness.
  5. Weeks 4–6Compression garments come off; fitness, swimming and the sea are allowed.
  6. 3 monthsDiscomfort is gone; strength training is possible.
