Chayenne Van Aarle (23) was elected Miss Belgium last year, but under that sash insecurity was simmering. That is why she had a breast augmentation. WhatsAppHLN summed up her reason in one line: under the Miss Belgium sash, an insecurity had been simmering for a long time. About the result she said: “I now feel twenty times more feminine.”
That is the full basis of this article. She did not describe the implant type, size or other medical details in the parts we could check, so we do not guess at them. Where the text below explains breast augmentation, it describes the operation in general, not her treatment.
Why her openness matters
A beauty queen admitting to an insecurity about her body is a strong message in itself. It shows that the reasons for breast augmentation are personal and often have little to do with how others see you. Chayenne chose to tell the story herself, with the recovery and the cost, instead of leaving it to speculation.

Her words also show what patients usually hope for: not a different person in the mirror, but feeling at ease in their own body. That is a goal a surgeon can discuss honestly — including which implant fits the body, what recovery looks like and what the limits are. Nothing in this article judges anyone’s appearance; the point is how the decision was made.

How breast augmentation is done today
Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthesia and takes on average 1.5 to 3 hours, followed by one day in hospital. The surgeon places an implant chosen together with the patient. The main choices:
- Filling — silicone gel or saline.
- Shape — round or anatomical (teardrop).
- Surface — smooth or textured.
- Size and profile — chosen with the surgeon according to the chest and the desired result.

Implants usually last about 10–15 years before replacement is considered. Which option fits is decided at the consultation, not from a news story.
Who is it for and how to prepare
Women consider breast augmentation because of small breasts, lost volume after pregnancy and breastfeeding, or asymmetry. After childbirth it is best to wait at least 6–12 months after the birth and after breastfeeding ends. Before surgery patients have blood tests, a coagulation panel, infection tests, an ECG, a chest X-ray and a breast ultrasound. Aspirin-type drugs, steroids and hormonal drugs, including oral contraceptives at least a month before, are stopped only in agreement with the doctor.
Possible complications are discussed at the consultation: hematoma, seroma, infection, a change in nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, asymmetry, wound separation and tissue necrosis. Knowing them in advance is part of an informed decision.
What recovery looks like
Moderate discomfort is normal in the first 1–3 days and much less by days 5–7. Most women return to non-physical work after 7–14 days and can take walks after 1–2 weeks. For three weeks there is no lifting over 3 kg and no raising the arms above shoulder level. Compression garments are worn for 4–6 weeks; fitness and swimming are possible after 4–6 weeks, strength training after 3 months.
Swelling settles in about a month, full recovery takes 3–6 months, scars fade over 6–12 months and sensitivity usually returns within 3–12 months. The timeline below shows the stages.
