FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
common questions

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

Nose job in Munster: methods, recovery and price

Rhinoplasty, or nose job, reshapes the nose to fit the individual proportions of the face. It corrects congenital and acquired deformities, including changes after a nasal injury. Patients from Munster most often ask about removing a dorsal hump, narrowing an overly wide nose, refining the tip or correcting the nostrils. Every surgery plan is created individually, taking into account all features of the nose.

What happens after surgery? For the first day you stay under observation in the inpatient unit. Swelling gradually subsides, though the tip and bridge may remain swollen for some time. Bending over, touching the nose and wearing glasses or makeup around it are off-limits early on. The final result for patients from Munster can be judged after 1–1.5 years, once tissues fully stabilise.

If you are comparing rhinoplasty prices in Munster, look at what is included. Here $4,200 (≈ €3,750) is the full figure for the operation with follow-up visits, dressings, inpatient stay and coordinator support, plus a lifetime guarantee on the result. Apply before the end of the year and the consultation is on the clinic. Fill in the short form to get started.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Breathing first: what Munster's damp air asks of a nose

Munster sits on a plain at about 60 m above sea level, and its air is humid for much of the year. Relative humidity averages 78.6% over the year and reaches 85-86% from November to January. For someone who already struggles to breathe through the nose, these months are when the problem is most noticeable. A blocked passage feels heavier in cold, wet air. That is why the consultation for rhinoplasty in Munster begins with a question about function, not only shape.

The procedure itself has two goals. Primary rhinoplasty adjusts the appearance of the nose and also improves breathing when airflow is restricted. If the problem lies in a deviated septum, the doctor may suggest rhinoseptoplasty. This is a combined operation that corrects the septum and changes the shape of the nose in one session. Septoplasty alone leaves the outer contour intact, so the choice depends on whether you want a visible change.

Describe your everyday breathing in your first message. Note which side blocks more, and whether it gets worse at night, during a cold spell or in heated rooms. January in the city has a mean daily maximum of 5.7 °C and a minimum of 0.4 °C. Many people spend those weeks moving between cold streets and dry indoor air. Notes on how your nose behaves in such conditions give the doctor more to work with than a photo alone.

The photos you send on WhatsApp or Telegram show the frontal view, the profile and the view from below. Breathing cannot be seen in them, so the doctor will ask about it directly. Some conditions rule out surgery for now. These include inflammation of the ears, throat, nose or eyes, and decompensated chronic diseases. A nose that is irritated or infected in a wet winter may therefore need to settle before a date is fixed. The doctor makes that call during the consultation, not you and not the coordinator.

Humidity numbers do not decide anything medically. They simply explain why a person from Munster may notice breathing trouble more in some months than in others. They also help you choose which season to plan around.

Planning around the calendar: Send, semesters and the months you want to be seen

A nose operation leaves the face changed for a while, and a splint is part of that. Planning around the city's rhythm is practical. Munster has a very visible annual calendar. The Send fair takes place three times a year: in spring during Lent, in June and in October. It draws more than one million visitors a year. If you tend to meet friends and relatives at these events, mark them on your calendar before you pick a date.

The city is also a student city. The university has 41,217 students in the winter semester 2025/26, and the figure for all students in the city is about 65,000 (2018). Seminar schedules, exam periods and project deadlines are fixed in advance. A student or a young lecturer can therefore plan fairly precisely. You can tell the coordinator on which days attendance matters and which weeks are free. The consultation is online, so the first steps do not take you away from lectures or work.

A sensible way to plan is to count backwards from the occasion you care about. Say you want to be comfortable in photos at a family event in the summer. Work out when the splint will come off and when the swelling has settled. The doctor can tell you what to expect for your anatomy; the page template gives no universal number for it, and we will not invent one. What the coordinators can provide is the fixed framework. The operation takes 1.5 to 3 hours under general anaesthesia, and you stay one day at the clinic. After that, check-ups follow at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.

A few practical questions to settle in the first conversation:

- Which dates in the next months are important for your appearance?

- Which weeks are free from teaching, shifts or exams?

- Do you have a spouse, parent or friend who can stay close to you around the operation day?

- Do you need a certificate or documents for your employer or university?

Rhinoplasty is generally planned for people from 18 to 45, when the nose has finished forming and tissues heal well. If you are a student who has just turned 18, that is the lower limit. Under 18 is a contraindication. For older people the operation is possible when medically indicated and general health allows it.

Splint, swelling and the days indoors

Right after the operation the nose carries a splint. At City Medical Centre you can choose its colour: purple, gold, green, light blue, pink, yellow, raspberry or carbon. It is a small detail, but a recovering person tends to look at it every day, so it is worth an actual decision. For some patients a quiet colour feels right, while others prefer a bright one that clearly marks the recovery period as temporary.

Swelling and bruising are normal after nasal surgery, and the exact course depends on your tissues and the extent of the correction. The doctor describes your case during the consultation. This is why the real planning question is not "how long" in the abstract but "what is the first week of my life going to look like". After the operation you receive a recovery programme. Your coordinator then keeps in touch and books the follow-up visits.

Think about the weeks around the operation in Munster terms. December sunshine averages only 1.3 hours a day, so a quiet period indoors in midwinter is not a loss in light. In May the average rises to 6.6 hours. In June to August it is 6.3 hours. If your plan is to be outside a lot on bright days, discuss with the doctor how to protect the healing nose from strong sun. We state no numbers for that here, because they depend on your case.

Some everyday things are worth asking about in advance:

- Sleeping position during the first nights.

- How to wash your face and hair while the splint is on.

- When you may blow your nose.

- When sport and heavy lifting can resume.

- When it is fine to wear glasses that rest on the bridge.

Write these questions down before the call. Answers differ between patients and techniques, and a coordinator can pass your list to the doctor so nothing is forgotten.

Cycling, glasses and sun: a nose in daily motion

Munster presents itself as the bicycle capital of Germany. In 2007 bicycle traffic made up 37.6% of trips, a little more than the 36.4% for vehicles. The Promenade, a bicycle-friendly ring, encircles the city centre. If cycling is your main way of getting around, an operation on the nose changes your routine for a while. A fall or a knock on the face is exactly what a healing nose must avoid, so it is sensible to ask the doctor in advance when you may get back on the saddle. Your coordinator can pass on that question, and you will get a clear answer rather than a guess from a forum.

The same goes for sunglasses and reading glasses. Frames sit on the bridge of the nose, which is the area most affected by a rhinoplasty with a dorsal correction. Do not simply decide on your own that "it will be fine". Bring this topic up during the consultation, along with the type of frames you wear, so that the advice is concrete. If you wear glasses daily, some people switch temporarily to contact lenses where appropriate. Whether that suits you is something to agree with the doctor.

Sunshine in Munster averages 4.1 hours a day, with about 1,598 sunshine hours a year in the long-term series. These numbers show the city is not especially sunny, but spring and summer days are bright enough that you will want sun protection while the nose heals. Ask which protection is right for the skin of your nose at each stage, and do not rely on general advice.

Cycling along the Aa and around the Aasee is a good example of a routine to plan. The Aasee is a reservoir created by damming the Aa in the 1930s. The Aa flows through the lake and the inner city and reaches the Ems near Greven. If your usual day includes riding along the water, you will feel a change in how you breathe and how your face is exposed to wind and cold. The doctor can tell you when such exposure is fine and when it is better to wait.

Cost, insurance and lost income: what the German rules say

Rhinoplasty done at the patient's request for cosmetic reasons is not paid by statutory health insurance. The German reference text on cosmetic surgery states that there is no reimbursement by the GKV in such cases. The patient bears the full cost, including lost income during recovery. About 92% of the German population is covered by statutory insurance, so this applies to most residents of Munster. Roughly 88% of the working population is insured through statutory funds and about 11% privately.

There is a second point that many people overlook. After a procedure that is not medically indicated, insured persons must share in the costs of resulting complications, including sick pay. Under § 52 SGB V the insurer may restrict or refuse benefits. In such a case there is also no entitlement to continued wage payment (Entgeltfortzahlung). That is a financial planning matter for you, your employer and your insurer. It is not a medical statement, and we cannot assess it for your individual contract.

What the consultation can do is separate two parts of the question:

- the aesthetic part, where you decide the shape you want;

- the functional part, where the doctor describes whether breathing is restricted and whether the septum is involved.

Whether any part of your case is treated as medically indicated by your insurer is a decision for the insurer. Do not assume it. Ask your fund in writing before you decide, and keep the reply.

At City Medical Centre the price is named by the doctor after the free online consultation and is set out in the contract. The coordinator can explain what the package includes: the operation, general anaesthesia, result modelling, the inpatient day, meals, follow-up visits and dressings, consumables and coordinator support. Consultations with the doctor remain free for a year after the operation. We do not quote numbers here; the price section of the page gives them, and your final figure comes from the doctor.

Online first: how the consultation works from Munster

The first step is a message. You send photos to the coordinators on WhatsApp or Telegram, and they answer round the clock, 24/7. The doctor assesses the photos, describes the possible correction and builds a 3D model of the future result. The consultation is free, and it does not commit you to surgery. If rhinoplasty is not actually needed in your case, you will be told so honestly.

A good set of photos for a patient in Munster is simple. Use daylight, which the city's bright months give you plenty of, but avoid harsh direct sun and strong shadows. Shoot with a plain background. Take the nose from the front, from both sides, from three-quarters, and from below, with a neutral expression. Do not use filters. If you have had a previous operation, say so, because revision rhinoplasty is considered no earlier than a year after the primary one.

The route after the consultation has defined steps:

1. Consultation and modelling: the doctor assesses your nose and wishes and chooses the technique.

2. Date reservation: the date is fixed once the deposit is paid and the terms are confirmed in the contract.

3. Tests: a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses.

4. The operation: 1.5 to 3 hours, general anaesthesia.

5. One day in the clinic's inpatient unit.

6. Recovery: a programme, then check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.

Preparation should start 21 days before the operation. Many of the tests can be done in Munster, so tell the coordinator early which ones you can arrange. Mention any blood clotting problems, chronic illnesses or infections at once, since they are listed as contraindications or require special attention.

With a population of 306,368 on 303.28 km2 and a density of 1,010.2 inhabitants per km2, Munster is compact. Getting to a laboratory is usually uncomplicated. Still, schedule the tests so that results are ready before the date is fixed, not the evening before.

A short calendar for a winter or spring plan

Here is a sample scenario that shows how the pieces fit together. It is an illustration, not a promise of dates. Suppose you write to the coordinators in November 2026. You send photos, answer questions about breathing and previous injuries, and get a call with the doctor. In the following days you receive the 3D model and a clear plan. You then decide whether to proceed.

If you decide yes, you check your calendar. November to January in Munster is the most humid stretch, with 85-86% relative humidity. If you tend to get colds in those months, you may prefer to wait until your nose is healthy, because inflammation of the nose or throat is a reason to postpone. Spring brings the Send fair during Lent, and it is a reason to think about who you will meet. Then comes the longer light of May, with an average of 6.6 hours of sunshine a day.

There is no universally right month. Some people prefer winter because they can stay indoors and have no outdoor commitments. Others choose a period between semesters. Others work around holidays when the face will be on show. The doctor does not decide your calendar, but the coordinator can lay out the fixed pieces: preparation starting 21 days ahead, one day in the clinic, and the follow-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.

Questions people in Munster ask before they decide

Does the damp Munster climate matter for planning a nose operation?

It does not change the operation, but it affects how you feel around it. Relative humidity averages 78.6% over the year and rises to 85-86% from November to January, and the city has about 183 rainy days in the 2015-2020 table. If your nose is blocked or inflamed in such weather, mention it, because inflammation of the nose, throat, ears or eyes is a reason to postpone. The doctor decides during the consultation whether your current condition allows planning.

Will statutory health insurance pay for rhinoplasty in Germany?

Not for cosmetic procedures done at the patient's request. The German reference on cosmetic surgery states that statutory insurance does not cover them, and the patient bears the full cost, including lost income. After a procedure that is not medically indicated, insured persons may also have to share the costs of complications, and § 52 SGB V allows the insurer to restrict or refuse benefits. Ask your fund in writing about your particular situation, especially if breathing is restricted or the septum is involved.

Can I plan the operation around the Send fair or the university semester?

Yes. The Send fair is held three times a year (spring during Lent, June and October), and the university has 41,217 students in the winter semester 2025/26. Tell the coordinator which dates are important and which weeks are free. The fixed framework is preparation starting 21 days ahead, 1.5 to 3 hours of surgery under general anaesthesia and one day at the clinic. The doctor explains how swelling is likely to behave in your case so you can leave a buffer before events.

I cycle every day in Munster. When can I get back on the bike?

There is no general number we can give, and the answer depends on your case and technique. A knock to the face is the main concern for a healing nose, so ask the doctor directly at the consultation. Cycling is a large part of daily traffic here (37.6% in 2007), so many patients ask this. Your coordinator can pass the question on and bring you the answer in writing.

I wear glasses. Should I think about that before surgery?

Yes. Frames rest on the bridge, which is the area most affected by many corrections. Tell the doctor which glasses you wear and how often, and ask when frames are fine to wear again. Some patients switch temporarily to another type of correction, but whether that suits you is a matter for your eye specialist and the doctor.

Is sunshine in Munster a concern for the healing nose?

Sunshine averages 4.1 hours a day, with 6.6 hours in May and 6.3 hours in June to August. It reaches only 1.3 hours in December. On bright days you will want to protect the skin of the nose, and the right method depends on the stage of healing. Ask the doctor for specific advice when you receive the recovery programme.

Can I do the tests in Munster before the date is set?

Usually yes. The preparation list includes a complete blood count, biochemistry, a coagulation panel, a chest X-ray and an X-ray of the sinuses, and preparation starts 21 days before the operation. Ask your coordinator for the exact list and timing, then arrange the tests with a laboratory or doctor convenient to you. Send the results before the date is finalised, so the doctor can check them.

How soon can I get an answer after sending photos from Munster?

Coordinators answer round the clock on WhatsApp and Telegram, and the first reply is quick. The doctor then assesses the photos and, at the free consultation, builds a 3D model of the possible result. Payment is only requested to reserve a date, after you have seen the plan and confirmed the terms in the contract. Nothing is booked before that.
