Not every patient is a candidate

If your problem can be solved without surgery, the doctor will say so right at the consultation — and you will not waste your money. Below are the conditions where a transplant works.

A man with thinning hair at a consultation: a case where a hair transplant helps

Problems it can solve

  • Androgenetic or diffuse alopecia
  • A receding hairline
  • A high hairline
  • Insufficient hair density
  • Genetic traits of hair growth
  • Effects left by an injury or burn
  • Shedding post-illness
  • A hormonal imbalance behind shedding

Still unsure where you stand?

Leave a number and the coordinator will ask for photos of the thinning area in a messenger; a doctor examines them and tells you honestly whether a transplant would help. Free, nothing booked.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Points people raise

We tell what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Certainly, yes. Patients join the practice from towns, cities and countries of every kind, and the consultation may be held online.

FUE: $2,200 (≈ €2,000). DHI: $2,500 (≈ €2,250). Combined: $2,700 (≈ €2,450). A free consultation and graft count gives you the final, contract-fixed price with no hidden extras.

Everything happens across one day, and nobody is admitted overnight.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

Comfort is maintained by local anaesthesia; nothing hurts at all.

In FUE, grafts are harvested with a tweezer, no cuts or stitches involved. In DHI, a Choi pen implants grafts without opening channels first. The combined method pairs FUE harvesting with DHI implantation.

The doctor names the exact quantity at a free appointment, after looking at what the donor zone offers.

Skin healing: 0–10 days. Then, at 2–4 weeks, transplanted hairs shed as expected. Regrowth is evident from 3–4 months, density is apparent by 6–9 months, so the outcome is final at 12–18 months.

A contract-backed, lifetime guarantee of hair growth comes with every procedure.

A calm look at hair transplants for Munster

Everything a resident of Munster needs to know about the operation fits in a line: FUE and DHI, no cuts, no stitches, local anaesthesia, one day. Graft survival is 98-100 %, and a price from $2,200 (≈ €2,000) is fixed in the contract after a free graft count.

Photos first, decisions later. A patient in Munster pays nothing for the online consultation, and the doctor looks at the thinning area and says whether a transplant will help. The clinic is reachable 24/7.

Give it 0-10 days to heal and 2-4 weeks for the transplanted hairs to shed, which is normal, then 3-4 months to growth, 6-9 to density and 12-18 to the final result. Check-ups are scheduled at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months with photo tracking by a personal coordinator and a lifetime growth guarantee.

Sun, rain and damp air: the weather your scalp meets through the year

Anyone planning a hair transplant while living in Munster should look at the weather first, because the new grafts spend their first weeks and months under the local sky. The numbers are modest and fairly even. The mean daily maximum is 25.3 °C in July, the warmest month, and 24.3 °C in August. The annual mean maximum is 15.4 °C. In January the mean daily maximum is 5.7 °C and the minimum 0.4 °C. A big heatwave is not the main issue. The main issue is a long stretch of cool, grey, damp weather that calls for a sensible hat and a calm routine.

Sunshine is the clearest seasonal contrast. It averages 4.1 hours a day over the year, climbs to 6.6 hours in May and holds at 6.3 hours from June to August. In December it falls to 1.3 hours. Over a long-term year this adds up to about 1,598 sunshine hours. So the bright months, from May to August, are also the months when a scalp with transplanted and donor areas is most exposed to direct light. The care plan includes advice on washing your hair, on sleep and on headwear. When you plan a spring or summer date, ask the doctor how that headwear advice applies to sunny days.

Humidity is the second thing to note. Relative humidity averages 78.6% over the year and reaches 85–86% from November to January. Annual precipitation was 672 mm in the 2015–2020 table, spread over 183 rainy days. August is the wettest month at 79 mm and June follows with 77 mm. May is the driest at 33 mm, with April at 34 mm. We do not claim that damp air changes the outcome of the operation. The point is practical: in a damp, rainy month you will want a covering you can change often, and you should settle with the doctor beforehand what is allowed on the donor and transplanted areas.

Counting the growth months from a real start date

The transplant itself takes one day at the clinic, under local anaesthesia. What follows runs on a slow calendar that is the same for everyone: 0–10 days of healing, 2–4 weeks of shedding of the transplanted hairs, first growth at 3–4 months, visible density at 6–9 months and the final result at 12–18 months. For a patient in Munster the useful exercise is to lay these stages over the local months and see what falls where.

Take an example. Suppose the operation is in mid-January 2027. The first ten days of healing end in late January. Shedding falls in February, and the doctor describes it as a normal stage: only the hairs shed, the follicles stay in place. The first new hairs would then be expected around mid-April to mid-May 2027, when the average sunshine has already risen towards the 6.6 hours of May. Density would show between about July and October 2027. The final result would come between January and July 2028.

Now take a later start, say March 2027. Healing and shedding fall in March and April. First growth lands in June and July, and the main volume and contour appear between September 2027 and December 2027. Neither calendar is better in itself. The January path puts the quiet, unattractive stages into the darkest months, when sunshine is at its lowest (1.3 hours a day in December). The March path moves the first growth into the brightest weeks. Choose the one that fits your work and your own preferences, and tell the coordinator which months matter to you.

Follow-up visits are set at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, with progress tracked by photo. In practice you send pictures to your personal coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram and the doctor reads the stage from them. These checkpoints sit well against a calendar of seasons: the 3-month photo is often the first one with visible new hair, so it is useful to take it in good daylight.

Hats, helmets and a city that moves by bicycle

Munster calls itself the bicycle capital of Germany. In 2007 bicycle traffic made up 37.6% of trips and vehicle traffic 36.4%. A ring called the Promenade, friendly to cyclists, encircles the city centre. If you ride daily, the question of when you can get back on the bike and what you can wear on your head matters more than it would elsewhere.

We cannot give a single date, because the plan for returning to sport and hair care is individual and the doctor gives it at the consultation. What is included for every patient is a plan for returning to sport and hair care, together with advice on washing, sleep and headwear. When you speak to the doctor, ask three specific things: what covering is acceptable in the first days, when a helmet or tight cap can be used over the transplanted area and the donor area, and how to handle rain on the way to work or to the university.

It also helps to describe your daily route when you write to the coordinator. A short ride along flat paths in cool weather is a different situation from a long ride on a bright day in June. With 1.3 hours of sun in December and 6.3 hours in June, July and August, your headwear needs change with the season, and the doctor can fit the advice to your own months and habits.

Fairs, semesters and a social calendar around the shedding stage

Hair transplant recovery has one stage that people often want to hide from colleagues and friends: the shedding of the transplanted hairs 2–4 weeks after the operation. It is a normal stage, but it is easier to get through if you plan around it. In Munster the social calendar has some fixed marks. The Send fair takes place three times a year: in spring during Lent, in summer in June and in autumn in October. It draws more than one million visitors per year. If those weeks are important to you, count backwards from them and keep the shedding stage clear of them.

A student city has its own rhythm too. The university had 41,217 students in the winter semester 2025/26, and the city as a whole is described with 65,000 students in 2018. For a student or a member of university staff the natural pause points are the semester breaks, when it is easier to rest and to keep appointments. We do not make claims about how busy the city is on any given day. We only suggest you put your own deadlines, exams and events on a sheet and place the first two weeks after the operation where they interfere least.

Remember that the transplant needs a single day at the clinic and that the whole preparation, from photos to the choice of date, happens online. The date is confirmed under a medical services contract only after the plan is agreed and the deposit is paid. You do not have to decide on the first message. The consultation is free, and the coordinator replies on WhatsApp and Telegram round the clock, so you can fit the questions around your lectures, shifts or family time.

Statutory insurance, sick pay and what to clarify before you decide

Many people in Germany assume that a medical procedure is paid for by the health fund. The rules are different for procedures done at the patient's own request. In Germany the statutory health insurance (GKV) does not pay for cosmetic procedures done at the patient's request, and the patient bears the full cost, including lost income. Overall about 92% of the German population is covered by statutory health insurance, so this rule affects most readers in Munster.

There is a second point that is easy to overlook. After a medically not indicated procedure, insured persons must share in the costs of resulting complications, including sick pay. Insurers may restrict or refuse benefits under § 52 SGB V, and there is no entitlement to continued wage payment (Entgeltfortzahlung) in that case. For a hair transplant, which is a one-day procedure with a gradual recovery, the practical advice is to plan the days off as holiday or agreed leave instead of counting on sick pay.

Whether your own case is treated as cosmetic or as medically indicated is not something a landing page can decide. First, the doctor tells you at the consultation whether a transplant helps at all. Alcopecia and similar conditions are on the list of cases where a transplant works. The list includes androgenetic or diffuse alopecia, bald patches, effects left by an injury or burn, and hair loss that follows illness. Second, if you are insured and unsure, ask your insurer in writing before you sign anything. Third, ask the coordinator for the plan in writing, so that you can show it to the insurer if you wish.

The conditions where a transplant does not suit are also set out openly: trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, being under 18, epilepsy, serious heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, a pacemaker, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B/C, pulmonary embolism and patchy alopecia. Some cases may be solved without surgery, and the doctor will say so at the consultation. Photos sent in a messenger, and a free reply, are enough to start.

Is the damp, cool winter in Munster a problem for planning a transplant?

The facts are straightforward. January has a mean daily maximum of 5.7 °C and a minimum of 0.4 °C, and humidity runs at 85–86% from November to January. We do not claim that this weather changes the result. It mainly affects comfort and what you wear on your head. A winter date puts healing and shedding into the darker months. Ask the doctor which covering suits the first days and how to handle rain.

If I have the operation in January 2027, when would I see new hair?

With an operation in mid-January 2027, healing would take about the first ten days and shedding would fall in February. The first new hairs usually appear 3–4 months after surgery, so around mid-April to mid-May 2027. Density shows at 6–9 months, roughly July to October 2027, and the final result comes at 12–18 months, so between January and July 2028. The doctor confirms the stages with you at the consultation.

Does the sunny period from May to August matter for the growth months?

Sunshine averages 6.6 hours a day in May and 6.3 hours from June to August. The care plan includes advice on headwear, so ask the doctor how it applies if the first weeks fall in these months. A spring date puts first growth around the summer. An autumn date would move the early stages into months with less sun. Pick the path that suits your work and your own preferences.

Should I avoid the Send fair weeks when I plan the date?

That depends on how you feel about being seen during the shedding stage, which lasts 2–4 weeks and is normal. The Send fair takes place in spring during Lent, in June and in October. If one of these weeks matters to you, count back from it and place the operation so that the shedding stage does not fall on it. The coordinator will help you to lay the stages on your calendar.

I cycle every day in Munster. When can I ride again?

There is no single date. The plan for returning to sport and hair care is individual and the doctor gives it at the consultation. Tell the coordinator how far you ride, whether you wear a helmet and what your route looks like. Then ask when a helmet or cap can touch the transplanted and donor areas, and what to wear in rain.

Will my statutory health insurance pay for a hair transplant?

In Germany statutory health insurance does not pay for cosmetic procedures done at the patient's request, and the patient bears the full cost, including lost income. Whether your case counts as medically indicated is a question for the doctor and your insurer. Ask the insurer in writing and keep the written plan from the coordinator. The consultation itself is free.

Can I count on sick pay for the days after the operation?

After a medically not indicated procedure, insurers may restrict or refuse benefits under § 52 SGB V, and there is no entitlement to continued wage payment (Entgeltfortzahlung). So it is safer to plan holiday or agreed leave. The transplant takes one day at the clinic, and the doctor explains what the first days look like, so you can talk it through with your employer.

How do I start from Munster, and how fast is the reply?

Send photos of the donor area and the thinning zones on WhatsApp or Telegram. Coordinators answer round the clock, and the stated reply time is within 15 minutes. The doctor assesses the photos for free, counts the grafts, and names the price, which is fixed in the contract. Nothing is booked until you confirm the plan and the date.
