I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Usual things asked

We cover what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Certainly, yes. Patients join the practice from towns, cities and countries of every kind, and the consultation may be held online.

FUE costs $2,200 (≈ €2,000), DHI costs $2,500 (≈ €2,250), and the combined DHI+FUE method costs $2,700 (≈ €2,450). The exact amount is confirmed at a free consultation after your grafts are counted, and it is fixed in the contract.

One day sees the whole operation through, and then it is home.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

No — local anaesthesia keeps the whole procedure pain-free.

FUE means tweezer-based, incision-free graft harvesting. DHI means channel-free implantation with a Choi pen. Combined DHI+FUE uses FUE for harvesting and the DHI pen for implanting.

It differs from person to person. The doctor counts grafts free of charge after examining the donor zone.

The wounds are gone in 0–10 days. Losing the transplanted hairs at 2–4 weeks is no cause for concern. Regrowth is under way at 3–4 months, density is visible at 6–9 months, and the result is final at 12–18 months.

You get a lifetime hair growth guarantee, written into the contract.

Everything worth knowing, put together for Bari

For a patient in Bari the answer is FUE or DHI, both without cuts and without stitches. Local anaesthesia is all that is applied, and the session lasts a day rather than a fortnight.

For anyone in Bari the entry point is a free online consultation. Pictures of the thinning area are all the doctor needs in order to say whether a transplant would help you. The clinic is available 24/7.

The healing part is over in 0-10 days, and the rest is a matter of waiting. At 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed, which is normal and happens to everyone. From 3-4 months the growth begins, quietly and without any fuss.

Page medically reviewed by Anastasia A. Kolesnik, hair transplant doctor. Review date: .

Reading the sunshine figures before you pick a month

Bari is a port city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Italy, and its weather is the first thing to look at when you plan a hair transplant. The local sunshine record is 2,829.5 hours a year. July alone brings 355.6 hours, while December has only 120.4. That is almost three times as much light in midsummer as in midwinter, and it matters for a scalp that has just been treated.

In July the average daily high is 30.6 °C and the average night-time low is 20.0 °C. August is almost the same, at 30.5 °C and 20.1 °C. The annual record high is 45.6 °C. Most days will not reach anything like that, but the record shows how far a hot spell can go. For anyone with a fresh transplant, the practical question is how much direct sun the scalp will meet in the first days.

The first stage of recovery is described as 0-10 days: the crusts fall away, the swelling subsides and the treated area slowly recovers. During this stage the skin is the main concern, not the hair. The programme includes advice on washing your hair, on sleep and on headwear, and the doctor will give you exact instructions for the head covering. We do not quote fixed rules here, because they depend on the technique and on the area treated.

Our suggestion is simple. If you can choose, avoid placing these first ten days in the brightest weeks of July and August. You can still have a transplant in summer, but the planning has to be more careful. You will need shade, light headwear approved by the doctor, and fewer hours outdoors during the early days.

Cold mornings, damp autumns and what they ask of a healing scalp

Bari's winters are mild by many standards, but they are not warm. January has an average high of 12.6 °C and an average low of 4.1 °C. The coldest record is -7.6 °C, set in January and December. A record like that is an exception, but it explains why a warm hat is part of normal life in the cold months, and why headwear needs a proper conversation before a transplant.

Autumn brings the rain. Annual precipitation is 466.6 mm over 61.4 days with at least 1 mm. The wettest month is November with 62.0 mm, followed by October with 53.9 mm. Relative humidity peaks in November at 74.9%, against 60.4% in July and a yearly average of 68.5%. Damp, cool air is not a medical problem in itself, but it affects everyday choices: which hat you can wear, how to keep it clean and dry, and how you manage the days when you simply need to get to a shop or an appointment.

The headwear advice that comes with a transplant is practical. It covers what to wear in the early days, what to avoid, and when you can return to your usual caps and hoods. The doctor decides all of this during the consultation and follow-up, based on your technique, your skin and the season. On WhatsApp or Telegram you can ask your coordinator which hat to buy before the procedure day, so that it is ready when you need it.

One more point on the wet months. Rain days are scattered through the year, from October to spring, and the driest months are August with 13.3 mm and July with 17.8 mm. So a winter schedule means more days with wet or windy weather during the early recovery. That is easy to manage if you plan for it, with a spare clean head covering and a few errands moved to other days.

A growth calendar built from January 2027

Hair transplants are measured in months, so it helps to turn the standard stages into real calendar dates. Take a procedure on 12 January 2027. The first 0-10 days of healing run until about 22 January. Shedding of the transplanted hairs is a normal stage at 2-4 weeks, so it falls between late January and early February. Only the hairs shed, and the follicles stay in place.

The first growth is expected at 3-4 months, which in this example means roughly mid-April to mid-May 2027. The density becomes visible at 6-9 months, so from mid-July to mid-October 2027. The final result, with its density and natural frontal edge of the hair, comes at 12-18 months: January to July 2028. These are ranges, not promises, and the doctor will adjust them to your case during the consultation.

Now compare a procedure in early May 2027. Shedding would fall in late May and June, in the brightest months of the year. The first growth would appear around August to September, and the final result would come in May to November 2028. Neither calendar is better in itself. The January version puts the quiet recovery in the cooler months, while the May version puts the visible shedding phase in the sunniest season, when you may want your head covered more often.

Two techniques are described in the programme. FUE is a classic method without incisions or stitches, DHI is implantation with a Choi pen, and a combined protocol uses FUE extraction with DHI implantation. Healing and growth stages are presented the same way for all of them, and the doctor explains the differences in detail at the free online consultation. The grafts are taken from the back of the head or the temples, and the doctor will tell you whether your case suits one method or another.

If you are thinking about a specific date, such as a family event in 2028, count backwards from it. The last stage, 12-18 months, is the one that gives the final density. A procedure that is meant to look its best in a given summer should happen well over a year earlier.

Holidays, the saint's day of 8 May and follow-ups by message

The aftercare programme includes follow-up visits at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, and a personal coordinator who tracks your progress by photo. For someone in Bari this works online: photos go to the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram, and the coordinator is available around the clock, 24/7. That removes most of the scheduling worries, but it still helps to know which days Italy takes off.

The national holidays are 1 January, 6 January, Easter Monday, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, 15 August, 4 October, 1 November, 8 December, 25 December and 26 December, and every Sunday counts as a holiday too. Bari also celebrates its patron saint, St Nicholas, on 8 May, though it is not confirmed as a public holiday. People often take time off around such dates, so they are natural moments for planned procedures, quiet recovery and photo check-ins.

Say you plan a procedure on 12 January 2027. The 1-month follow-up would fall around 12 February, the 3-month one around 12 April, which is just after Easter Monday if Easter is early, the 6-month one around 12 July, the 9-month one around 12 October and the 12-month one in January 2028. Because the follow-up is based on photos and messages, none of these dates depends on shop opening times or public offices.

A practical tip is to pick a photo routine from the first week. Take pictures in the same room, in the same light and from the same angles, so that the doctor can compare changes month by month. Late-afternoon light in winter is softer than midsummer glare, so you will need to be consistent whichever season you start in.

Private by nature: how a hair transplant sits beside the national health system

Italy's national health service, the SSN, was established in 1978 and provides universal coverage to citizens and residents. It is run on a regional basis under the Ministry of Health, which sets the national Essential Levels of Care. That system is the backbone of public medicine in Apulia, where Bari is located, but its scope is defined by medical need.

Purely aesthetic surgery is not paid for by the SSN. An Italian financial publication in January 2024 described it as accessible only through private services. The SSN does cover reconstructive operations after trauma, burns and mastectomy, as well as certain defined functional cases. In practice, a transplant for androgenetic alopecia is generally treated as a private choice, so you should not expect the public system to fund it. If your case involves the effects of an injury or burn, the doctor will tell you at the consultation what the transplant can and cannot do.

The consultation itself is free and takes place online. You send photos to the coordinator, the doctor assesses your donor area and counts the grafts, and the final plan is confirmed before anything is booked. The doctor will also tell you if a transplant is not the right answer. Hair loss from illness, shedding caused by a hormonal imbalance and patchy alopecia belong to the cases that do not suit a transplant, and these may be solved in other ways.

The contraindications are listed clearly. They include trichotillomania, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, being under 18, intolerance to anaesthetics, epilepsy, serious heart conditions, diabetes mellitus, a pacemaker, AIDS/HIV, hepatitis B/C and pulmonary embolism. If any of these applies to you, say so at the first message. The anaesthesia is local, and the procedure takes one day at the clinic.

Waiting times in public facilities are reported as usually up to a few months in the big hospitals. A private route through a consultation is different: you can message us today and receive the assessment without joining a queue. Whichever way you go, put the medical history in front of the doctor first.

Is summer in Bari a bad time for a hair transplant?

It is not forbidden, but it needs more planning. July has an average high of 30.6 °C and 355.6 hours of sunshine, and the first 0-10 days are when the crusts fall away. The doctor will give you headwear and sun instructions for those days. If your dates are flexible, many people choose a cooler month for the first stage of recovery.

Can I have the procedure in winter and still see results by summer?

The final result takes 12-18 months, so no season gives an instant finish. A January 2027 procedure, for example, shows first growth around April to May 2027 and visible density from July to October 2027. The full result comes between January and July 2028.

Does the wet autumn in Bari affect healing?

November is the wettest month, with 62.0 mm, and its humidity averages 74.9%. Damp air matters mostly for everyday habits, such as keeping your head covering clean and dry. The doctor gives the specific instructions on washing and headwear, and your coordinator can answer questions on WhatsApp or Telegram.

Will the Italian health service pay for a hair transplant?

Purely aesthetic surgery is not covered by the SSN. The service pays for reconstructive operations after trauma, burns and mastectomy, plus defined functional cases. A transplant for androgenetic alopecia is therefore normally a private decision. If your hair loss follows an injury or burn, describe it in the first message so the doctor can assess it.

Do public holidays in Italy change the follow-up schedule?

Follow-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months are based on photos and messages, and the coordinator is available 24/7. So national holidays, such as 15 August or 8 December, and Sundays do not stop the process. Check the dates when you book, and send your photos in the same light each time.

What kind of hat should I plan for after the procedure?

Ask the doctor before the day itself. The programme includes advice on headwear, and the choice depends on the season, the technique and the area treated. In Bari that means considering strong summer sun, cold January mornings with a 4.1 °C average low, and rainy autumn days.

Does the 8 May feast of St Nicholas matter for planning?

It is a local date in Bari, though it is not confirmed as a public holiday. It is useful mainly as a calendar marker. A procedure in early January 2027 would put the 3-4 month first-growth stage around mid-April to mid-May, so photos around that date are a good checkpoint.

How do I find out whether a transplant suits my case?

Send photos to the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram, or leave your number for a call. The doctor will assess your donor area, count the grafts and explain the possible result. If a transplant does not suit you, for example in patchy alopecia or hair loss from illness, you will be told at this stage, before any booking.
