What to expect
An agreed plan for the correction, observation in hospital and recovery monitoring for a year.
1The surgeon assesses your figure, discusses your wishes and chooses the best volume, shape and correction method.
2We reserve a surgery date for you: the deposit can be paid by card at the clinic or online by bank transfer. The terms are fixed in the contract for medical services
3Before the operation you take a full set of tests: blood tests, an ECG and any other examinations the doctor prescribes.
4Mammoplasty is performed according to your individual plan. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia while your condition is monitored throughout.
5Once the operation is over, you stay in the clinic's comfortable ward under the medical team's supervision until discharge.
6After surgery you receive a recovery programme. Check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months track your progress, and consultations with your surgeon are free for a year.

A few simple rules before surgery: keep a healthy balance of work and rest, sleep longer, avoid stress, worry and intense emotions, and lower your physical activity.
Stop taking hormonal oral contraceptives at least one month prior to the procedure
Stop aspirin-containing medications, steroids and hormone drugs for chronic diseases before the operation
Take your tests a week before surgery
Swelling from surgery fades after 3 weeks
Within 3 weeks, scars form
Avoid exertion (lifting over 3 kg)
No raising arms above shoulder level — 3 weeks
Post-correction recovery means wearing compression garments for 1–1.5 months
No intense gym sessions for up to 40 days and no overly vigorous aerobics; light cardio is possible after one month. Watch what and how you eat.
Discomfort disappears after 3 months
No baths or saunas for up to three months, and no physiotherapy
Within 3 months, inflammation in the tissue fully resolves and a “pocket” takes shape around the implant

FAQ
Yes. Boob job is the everyday name for breast augmentation. At City Medical Centre it is done with round or anatomical implants that the surgeon chooses with you at the consultation.
Breast enlargement adds volume with implants. A breast lift (mastopexy) raises sagging breasts and removes excess skin. Which one suits you is decided at the free consultation.
There are several types of mammoplasty: augmentation (bigger volume with implants), reduction (removal of excess tissue and skin), mastopexy (a lift for sagging), reconstruction (after mastectomy) and correction of asymmetry. The best approach is chosen individually, considering your wishes and the surgeon's recommendation.
Message us — our coordinator will get back to you shortly and book your consultation. The plastic surgeon consultation is free.
Complications are rare when recommendations are fully followed, yet they can include hematoma or seroma, wound infection, reduced or increased nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, aesthetic asymmetry, separation of the wound and tissue necrosis.
Mammoplasty results last a long time: about 10–15 years after augmentation (until implant replacement) and 5–10 years after a lift or reduction. Weight, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity affect how long it lasts. To maintain the result, wear supportive underwear and control your weight.
Breastfeeding after mammoplasty is determined by the type of surgery. Augmentation through an under-breast or armpit incision, with the implant under the muscle, usually preserves lactation, since the glandular tissue is left undamaged. The risk is higher after a lift or reduction because ducts may be cut. Talk to your surgeon about it in advance.
Implant choice considers material (silicone looks most natural, saline is used less often), shape (round or anatomical teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), size and profile. The surgeon will choose the best option for your anatomy and wishes.
Because the operation is done under general anaesthesia, the patient feels no pain. The first 1–3 days may bring moderate discomfort, eased with painkillers. By day 5–7 the pain is much milder, and by weeks 2–3 the discomfort disappears. Let your doctor know immediately if pain is severe.
Work without physical exertion can be resumed after 7–14 days. Light walks after 1–2 weeks. Fitness and swimming after 4–6 weeks, strength training after 3 months. Pool and sea after 4–6 weeks. Compression garments are worn for 4–6 weeks. Exact timing depends on how you recover.
Mammoplasty has not been scientifically shown to increase the risk of breast cancer, and implants do not cause it. Keep up regular screening after surgery (self-exams, mammography and ultrasound) and always mention your implants to the doctor examining you.
Mammoplasty is possible after a C-section once your body has completely recovered. Leave at least 6–12 months after childbirth and after breastfeeding has ended. Surgery requires a prior consultation and check-up by the surgeon.
Mammoplasty always leaves scars, though with a skilled surgeon they are minimal. The incisions are hidden under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. Scars are reddish in the early months but fade within 6–12 months and become almost invisible.
Mild asymmetry in the first weeks after surgery is normal and results from swelling and uneven healing. If a difference in shape or size remains after 3–6 months, see your surgeon for an examination to identify the cause.
After mammoplasty, the breasts and nipples can temporarily lose or gain sensitivity. Irritation of the nerve endings is responsible. Most often sensitivity returns within 3–12 months. If there is no improvement a year later, see your surgeon.
Hormonal drugs (contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy) do not affect implants themselves, but they can cause swelling or a change in breast tissue volume that alters the appearance for a time. Always inform your surgeon about them ahead of surgery.

The goal of the surgery is a natural-looking bust in harmony with the figure. For those from Bari, the process starts with choosing implants: silicone is the usual material, while saline is used less often. The surgeon then weighs shape, surface, size and profile. When sagging is also present, augmentation can be combined with a lift in a single combined operation.
Nothing is rushed. First, surgeon and patient agree on a plan together; then a full diagnostic work-up confirms it is safe to proceed. During surgery you feel nothing thanks to general anaesthesia. The first one to three days bring moderate discomfort relieved by painkillers, and by the second or third week it passes. That is the typical course for women in Bari.
Pricing is transparent: from $4,700 (≈ €4,200) for augmentation, the same for breast reduction or a lift without implants, and $5,400 (≈ €4,850) for a combined lift with implants. Reconstruction is priced on request. For people from Bari, the plastic surgeon consultation is free, and in-house instalments make planning easier. Leave a request to get your personal correction plan.

I went to Dmitry Sergeyevich for breast augmentation with implants. At the consultation everything was explained in detail, and together we chose the best size. The operation under combined anaesthesia took 2 hours, and I was discharged home the next day. The swelling went down in about a month, and my breasts look very natural. The year of follow-up care is a real lifesaver: you can always ask a question and get an answer. Thank you to the clinic!

The compression garment is the part of recovery that interacts most with the weather. The service plan asks for it for 1–1.5 months after the correction, and at the consultation it is also described as 4–6 weeks of wear, depending on how your recovery goes. Either way, the garment will sit against your skin for a good part of a season, and in Bari the season you pick changes how that feels. Climate records for 1991–2020 give a July mean high of 30.6 °C and a mean low of 20.0 °C, and August is almost identical at 30.5 °C and 20.1 °C. Nights barely cool down. Relative humidity in July averages 60.4%, which is lower than the annual average of 68.5%, but a close-fitting garment is still a layer you cannot take off.
January is the opposite case. The mean high is 12.6 °C and the mean low 4.1 °C. A garment under a jumper is easy to live with at those temperatures, and nobody will ask why you are wearing a looser top. The trade-off is damp: November is the wettest month at 62.0 mm and has the highest humidity of the year, 74.9%. Cold, wet days are not a medical problem, but they make a short walk less appealing during the weeks when easy walking is the main activity the doctor encourages.
A practical way to think about it is to count backwards from the date you want to feel normal. If you want to be wearing light summer clothes in July, when the sun shines for about 355.6 hours in the month, the garment period has to be finished before then. Two garments, so one can be washed while the other is worn, is a sensible question to put to the coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram. Fabric, closure type and size all matter more in a warm month, and the doctor can tell you what is acceptable and what is not.
Heat also matters for the first days. After the single day at the clinic you go home with swelling that, per the recovery plan, disappears after about 3 weeks, and scars that develop within the same 3 weeks. A cool, ventilated room helps you rest. Baths, saunas and physiotherapy are not allowed for up to three months, so the hot-weather habit of a long soak is off the list. A short, lukewarm shower, as your doctor permits, is the realistic substitute.
Summer in Bari is also long and very sunny: the annual total is 2,829.5 hours, with the record high at 45.6 °C. Exposed skin and fresh scars are a question for your doctor. Ask at the consultation what to do about sun on the chest during the scar-forming weeks, instead of guessing from general advice.
Bari is a port on the Adriatic, so for many patients the practical question is when the water becomes possible again. The recovery guidance gives a clear window: pool and sea from 4–6 weeks, and fitness and swimming from the same 4–6 weeks. It adds that precise timing depends on your individual recovery, so treat it as the earliest point to ask about, not as a date fixed in advance. At the 7-day check-up and the later ones at 3 and 6 months, the doctor looks at how the wounds are healing and tells you whether you are ready.
A worked example makes the planning easier. Imagine the operation falls in the second half of April 2027. Four to six weeks later is late May to early June. By then the sea has had weeks of warming, and you would be entering the water at the start of the long season, with the hot months still ahead. Compare that with an operation in September: the 4–6 week window would run into October, which has 53.9 mm of rain on average, and the water would be cooling. Neither is wrong, but they suit different priorities. The first suits people who want the summer; the second suits people who want a quiet recovery and are happy to wait until the following year for the beach.
Swimming strokes are not equal after a breast operation. The plan states no raising of the arms above shoulder level for 3 weeks, and no lifting of more than 3 kg for the same period. By the time swimming is allowed, those first restrictions are over, but the shoulders and chest have been idle for a month or more. Starting with a short, gentle swim, without a hard push, is a more sensible course than a long first outing. Strength-oriented water sports come later, in line with the general guideline of strength training from 3 months.
Bari has a well-known link with underwater sport: it hosted the 2007 CMAS World Games, which cover underwater disciplines. If diving or snorkelling is part of your life, raise it at the consultation. The recovery text we work from does not give separate rules for diving, so it will be the doctor who tells you when, and whether, extra caution applies. Do not assume that swimming clearance means every water activity is cleared.
One more point about the sea: salt water and open wounds do not mix. The 4–6 week window assumes that the wounds have closed and the doctor has seen them. If something looks different at the 7-day check-up, the date moves, and it is better to have that talk early than to book a seaside week and then cancel it.
Italy's national statistics show that 35% of people aged 3 and over are sedentary, according to ISTAT figures reported in late 2024. If you are active in Bari, you belong to the smaller group, and you will probably want to know how fast you can get back to training. The plan is specific. For 3 weeks, no strenuous activity and no lifting over 3 kg. Intense gym training is skipped for up to 40 days at most, and very active aerobics are avoided. Light cardio may be possible after a month. Strength training waits until 3 months.
The upper-body detail is what people underestimate. Press-ups, rows, pull-ups and overhead work all load the chest and shoulders, which is exactly where the implants sit. In the first 3 weeks the arms should not go above shoulder level, so even a gentle overhead stretch counts. Lower-body exercise comes back sooner in practice, because it does not pull on the chest, but the rules about intense effort still apply. A reasonable approach, to be confirmed with the doctor, is to walk in the first one to two weeks, add light cardio around the one-month mark, and leave weights and anything with push or pull movements until the 3-month point.
Bari's sporting life is centred on football. SSC Bari played in Serie B in the 2024–25 season at the Stadio San Nicola, a stadium seating 58,000, built for the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the setting for the 1991 European Cup final. Matchdays mean crowds, standing, jostling, and sometimes raised arms. That is not a good environment during the first weeks. If you are a regular, plan the date so that the early weeks fall in a quieter part of the calendar, or watch from home for a month. A person pushing past you in a stand is a small risk that you can simply remove from your plan.
Runners and swimmers have their own questions. Running involves bounce, and a good support garment matters; this is another reason to follow the 1–1.5 months of compression. Once you are out of the garment, supportive underwear is advised afterwards to help maintain the result, as is controlling your weight. Weight change affects the outcome, so a person whose training aims to change body weight sharply should discuss it before the date is set.
Do not rely on how you feel. The plan says discomfort fades after 3 months, but an absence of pain at week 3 is not permission to lift. Within 3 months the tissue becomes free of inflammatory changes and a pocket forms around the implant, and the guidance is built around that biology, not around mood.
Return to work is possible after 7–14 days if the job involves no physical exertion. That is a short window, and in Italy it can be laid over the national calendar to reduce the days you need to take. The national holidays are 1 January, 6 January, Easter Monday, 25 April, 1 May, 2 June, 15 August, 4 October, 1 November, 8 December, 25 December and 26 December, and every Sunday is also a holiday. Several of them cluster in a way that helps: 25 and 26 December sit next to 1 and 6 January, and 8 December opens the month.
Here is how that can work. If your operation took place in the first days of December 2026, the first week of recovery would include 8 December, and the Christmas holidays would cover the next stretch. The 7-day check-up would come before them, and you would be back at a desk in the second week of January 2027, close to the 3-week mark when swelling is gone. Remember that winter is a good season for the garment, as the January mean high is 12.6 °C. The downside is that holidays bring family gatherings, long meals and children who need lifting, and the 3 kg limit applies to a child as much as to a bag.
Spring offers a different pattern. Late April has 25 April and 1 May close together, and 2 June follows later. The city's patron-saint feast of St Nicholas falls on 8 May. It is not confirmed as a public holiday in the national list, so check your own employer's arrangements instead of assuming the day is free. Whether you work in an office, teach or study, the person who decides is your employer or institution.
Bari is also a university city. The University of Bari was founded in 1925 and is listed with a figure of about 49,000 students in its infobox, with about 40,000 in the article text, and the year for either number is not stated. There are also the Polytechnic University, an Academy of Fine Arts and a Conservatory. If you are a student, the sensible approach is to plan around lectures and exams, and to ask the coordinator what documents you may need for an absence. If you work in a school or university, talk to the person who arranges your timetable early, because a 7–14 day window is easier to arrange if it is not a surprise.
The same logic applies to a single day at the clinic. The stay is one day with general anaesthesia, so plan to be unavailable that day and the next. Tests come first: a full set that includes blood tests and an ECG, done about a week before the operation. Aspirin-containing drugs, steroids and hormonal medications for chronic conditions are stopped 1–2 weeks before, and oral hormonal contraceptives at least one month before. These timings affect a diary, so write them down together with the date.
Italy's national health service, the SSN, was established in 1978 and gives universal coverage to citizens and residents. It runs on a regional basis under the Ministry of Health, which sets the national Essential Levels of Care. For someone living in Bari, in the Apulia region, that is the framework for ordinary medical care. It is useful to know what falls inside it and what does not.
Purely aesthetic surgery is not paid by the SSN. A January 2024 article on the topic describes it as accessible only through private services. The SSN does cover reconstructive operations after trauma, burns and mastectomy, and defined functional cases. Examples given are eyelid surgery where vision is reduced, and nose surgery for severe septal deviation or breathing problems. The same article says that procedures needed to reduce the risks of severe obesity can be covered, including bariatric surgery and abdominoplasty after major weight loss. Augmentation for volume, asymmetry or change after pregnancy is cosmetic in this sense, so you should expect to arrange it privately. If your case is reconstruction after mastectomy, that is a different pathway, and the clinic's own list does include breast reconstruction, with the terms agreed at the consultation.
This matters for planning because some patients assume that a public referral is needed first. For augmentation it is not how the process works here: you send photos by WhatsApp or Telegram, receive a free assessment, and confirm the plan and dates before anything is booked. The coordinator answers around the clock, which suits people who are only free in the evening or on a Sunday.
Public waiting times are another reason people look at alternatives for non-urgent care. English-language sources describe waits of up to a few months in large public facilities and up to a few weeks in private facilities contracted with the SSN. No official waiting-list figure was found, so treat it as an indication only. There is also evidence of patients moving from the poorer southern regions to the more prosperous north for care, which shows how much people compare options. In this case the consultation is online, so you can compare without moving anywhere.
The weight-loss point deserves a note for readers who have lost a lot of weight. Italian bariatric criteria include a BMI of at least 40, or 35–39.9 with an obesity-related disease, among other conditions. If your breast shape changed after major weight loss, that is on the clinic's list of suitable reasons for augmentation, but the doctor will want to see whether your weight is stable. Healthy weight control also helps results last; the stated life of augmentation is about 10–15 years, until implant replacement.
It depends on whether you prefer warmth or coolness. Climate records for 1991–2020 show a January mean high of 12.6 °C and low of 4.1 °C, which makes a close-fitting garment easy to wear, although November is the wettest and most humid month. July and August have mean highs around 30.5 °C and lows of 20 °C, so a garment worn for 1–1.5 months in that period is more tiring. The doctor can advise on fabric and fit once you share your plans.
The recovery guidance allows pool and sea from 4–6 weeks, with precise timing depending on your recovery and on the check-ups. Count forward from the date you are considering: an operation in the second half of April 2027 would open the water in late May or early June. Remember that no raising of the arms above shoulder level is allowed for 3 weeks, so start with gentle swimming.
Stadium crowds mean standing, pushing and raised arms, which does not suit the first weeks. The plan says no strenuous activity and no lifting over 3 kg for 3 weeks, and no arms above shoulder level for the same period. Many patients choose to watch from home for the first month, and the doctor will tell you when you can return to a crowd.
Purely aesthetic surgery is not paid by the SSN, so augmentation for volume or shape is arranged privately. The SSN does cover reconstructive operations after trauma, burns and mastectomy, and certain functional cases. If your situation is reconstruction, tell the coordinator at the start so that the doctor can discuss it during the consultation.
Return to non-physical work is possible after 7–14 days, so holidays can reduce the days you take off. The national list includes 1 November, 8 December, 25 and 26 December, 1 and 6 January, and every Sunday. An operation in early December 2026 would put 8 December and the Christmas period in the early recovery, with a return to work in January 2027. St Nicholas on 8 May is the city's feast day but is not confirmed as a national holiday, so ask your employer.
Bari has the University of Bari, the Polytechnic University, an Academy of Fine Arts and a Conservatory. Return to light study is possible within the 7–14 day window, but sport, heavy bags and lifting over 3 kg are limited for 3 weeks. Choose a date that avoids exams and practical sessions, and keep the check-ups at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months in your diary.
The plan says to skip intense gym training for up to 40 days and to avoid very active aerobics. Light cardio may be possible after a month, and strength training from 3 months. Arms should not be raised above shoulder level for 3 weeks, and baths, saunas and physiotherapy are not allowed for up to three months. Your doctor confirms each step at the check-ups.
Stop oral hormonal contraceptives at least one month before. Stop aspirin-containing drugs, steroids and hormonal medications for chronic conditions 1–2 weeks before, and do the tests about a week before the operation. In the 1–2 months beforehand, keep a steady work-rest balance, sleep more, avoid stress and reduce physical activity.
