Half of those asking hear a no

If your case can be solved without surgery, the doctor will say so right at the consultation — and you will not waste your money. Below are the conditions in which a transplant really works.

A man with bald patches at a consultation: a case where a hair transplant helps

When grafts make sense

  • Androgenetic or diffuse alopecia
  • Thin spots and a receding hairline
  • A high hairline
  • Insufficient hair density
  • Hair growth's genetic features
  • Effects left by an injury or burn
  • Hair loss post-illness
  • Shedding tied to hormonal imbalance

Reading this and still guessing?

Hand over a number and nothing more. The coordinator requests messenger pictures of the thinning zone, a doctor looks them over and answers whether a transplant would help. Free, and nothing is booked.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Questions we get

We share what people
ask before booking

People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.

City Medical Centre doctors

Yes. The clinic works with patients from other cities and countries, and an online consultation is available first.

FUE is $2,200 (≈ IQD 2,900,000), DHI is $2,500 (≈ IQD 3,300,000), combined DHI+FUE is $2,700 (≈ IQD 3,550,000). A free consultation with a graft count gives you the exact, contract-fixed price.

It takes just one day from start to finish, and you're free to go home afterward.

It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.

No — local anaesthesia keeps the whole procedure pain-free.

FUE means tweezer-based, incision-free graft harvesting. DHI means channel-free implantation with a Choi pen. Combined DHI+FUE uses FUE for harvesting and the DHI pen for implanting.

At the free consultation, the doctor counts the grafts you need according to your donor area.

0–10 days for healing, 2–4 weeks for normal shedding of transplanted hair, 3–4 months for new growth to start, 6–9 months for real density, and 12–18 months for the final result.

Your procedure includes a lifetime hair-growth guarantee under contract.

A guide to hair transplants written for Baghdad

A patient in Baghdad is not facing an ordeal. FUE and DHI leave no cuts to heal and no stitches to remove, local anaesthesia is enough throughout, and the operation is over within a day of starting.

The doctor can see what is going on from photographs, so a patient in Baghdad begins online and free of charge, with a straight answer on whether a transplant helps. The clinic keeps in touch 24/7.

Healing fits into 0-10 days, and at 2-4 weeks the transplanted hairs shed exactly as the protocol predicts. Growth begins at 3-4 months, density comes at 6-9 and the final result at 12-18. Check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months with photo tracking by a personal coordinator and a lifetime growth guarantee.

How we prepare and review medical content · Medical disclaimer

A graft count starts with a good set of photographs

Baghdad was counted at 7,837,463 people in the 2024 census figure for the city, and wherever you are in it the first step is the same: pictures and a few lines of text. A coordinator replies on WhatsApp and Telegram at any hour, the first online conversation with a doctor is free, and sending photographs books nothing.

Choose a bright room and a plain wall, switch off the flash and keep your hair dry. Take the front, both temples, the crown and the back of the head, then a clear shot of the donor area, which is the back of the head or the temples. If you own a picture from a few years ago in which your hair was thicker, send it too; a doctor reading the speed of loss learns a lot from a comparison.

Beneath the pictures, answer four questions in writing. When did the thinning begin? Has it moved quickly or slowly? Does anyone in your family have the same pattern? What have you already tried? Then add a short medical history, including regular medicines and any operation. The doctor studies the donor area, counts the grafts you need and says whether a transplant would actually help.

Name your goal in a single sentence: a denser front, a covered crown, a fuller beard or stronger eyebrows. These are separate tasks with separate graft counts, and the more exactly you describe the goal, the more useful the answer you receive.

Who may treat you: syndicates for doctors, licences for facilities

A World Health Organization review of the private health sector in Iraq explains how oversight is divided, and it is worth knowing before you question any clinic. Registration and licensing of doctors, dentists and pharmacists is the responsibility of their own syndicates, and doctors have to be relicensed periodically after paying the syndicate's fees. Private hospitals are licensed through the mayoralty health council, with technical clearance from the private sector department of the Ministry of Health under federal Law No. 25 of 2015.

Turn that into three questions for the coordinator. Under which licence does the clinic work? Which doctor will perform my transplant, and what is the specialty? Where can I confirm that the doctor is currently registered? Ask for the answers in a message you can keep. The clinic states that it holds a medical licence and that diplomas and certificates of its doctors may be inspected before you pay.

The WHO text also notes that most private hospitals and diagnostic centres are in urban areas and are licensed, because almost all inspections are carried out in central, urban areas. That is a reason to ask politely and expect a clear answer, not a reason to skip the check. Across Iraq, the WHO review counts 372 hospitals as of 2020.

The doctor you meet at the consultation is the one who works in the operating room. Ask for the name to appear in your plan, then check that it matches the name you were given.

No national health insurance: planning around out-of-pocket care

People in Baghdad often ask whether an insurer or an employer will contribute. The WHO review states that Iraq has no national health insurance system, only isolated small schemes for employees of certain companies and of three ministries, and that a health insurance law was endorsed by Parliament in December 2020. It adds that the private sector depends on out-of-pocket payments.

So do not assume either answer. If you belong to an employee scheme, put the question to its administrator in writing, naming the procedure and the method, and ask what document the scheme would need from the clinic. If the answer is no, you have lost nothing; if it is yes, you have a reply to show the coordinator.

Whoever pays, the arrangement should be visible on paper. The consultation is free, the final figure is set after your grafts have been counted, and it is fixed in the contract for medical services. A date in the theatre is reserved by a deposit, which can be paid by card or online. Before that step, read the draft contract slowly and ask that anything said aloud be repeated in text.

Three methods, one comparison table

The clinic uses FUE, DHI and a combination of the two. In FUE the doctor lifts grafts with forceps, without incisions or stitches. DHI places each graft directly with a Choi pen, so no channels are made in advance. The combined method takes grafts by FUE and implants them by DHI, and is positioned as a densifying option for androgenetic alopecia.

The clinic compares these techniques on how the graft is placed, how much trauma it suffers and the natural angle of hair, and it quotes graft survival of 98 to 100 per cent for FUE. Treat the quoted figures as averages: the real result depends on the area and on you, and the doctor sets out the details at the consultation.

Make a small table with a column for each clinic you consider and four rows: method, graft count, area, and the doctor who performs the work. Fill it only from written answers. A column with blanks shows exactly where the next question goes, and an offer without a method or a count is not comparable with one that has both.

Operations are done in one day under local anaesthesia, and you go home the same day. Beards and eyebrows follow the same principle with a different destination, and the doctor agrees the shape with you before work starts.

What to put in your first message, and what to hold back until you hear back

Send photographs, the written answers to the four questions above and your medical history. Do not send identity documents, bank details or card numbers in a first message; the coordinator will tell you what is needed once a date is discussed, and a deposit is a separate, later step.

Mention any health condition you are not sure about. The clinic's list of contraindications includes cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, serious heart conditions, a pacemaker, hepatitis B or C, HIV, pulmonary embolism, intolerance to anaesthetics, trichotillomania and body dysmorphic disorder, and the doctor must hear about these before any plan is made.

When the answer arrives, read it twice, the second time with a pencil. Underline every statement that lacks a number, a name or a document behind it, and send those back as questions. A calm exchange of this kind is the best sign that the later stages, including the check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, will also be run in an orderly way.

Who registers and licenses doctors in Iraq?

According to the WHO review of the private health sector, registration and licensing of doctors, dentists and pharmacists is the responsibility of their own syndicates, and doctors are relicensed periodically. Ask the coordinator for your surgeon's full name and specialty and confirm the registration with the syndicate.

Is there national health insurance in Iraq that could pay for a hair transplant?

The WHO review says there is no national health insurance system, only small schemes for employees of certain companies and of three ministries, and that a health insurance law was endorsed by Parliament in December 2020. Ask your employer's scheme in writing.

Which photographs should I send from Baghdad?

Front, both temples, crown, back of the head and the donor area, taken in daylight with dry hair, no flash and a plain background. Add an older photograph with denser hair if you have one, and a few written lines on when the loss began.

How are private hospitals licensed in Iraq?

The WHO review explains that, under federal Law No. 25 of 2015, private hospitals are licensed through the mayoralty health council, with technical clearance from the Ministry of Health. Ask the clinic under which licence it works.

Can the doctor tell me by messenger whether I am a suitable candidate?

Yes. Your coordinator passes your photographs to a doctor, who reviews them and says whether a transplant would help. The first consultation is free and the coordinator is on WhatsApp and Telegram 24/7.

What should I not send in a first message?

Identity documents, bank details and card numbers. A first message needs photographs, a short history and your goal. Payment details are discussed later, when a date is agreed and the contract has been read.

How many hospitals does Iraq have?

Iraq as a whole had 372 hospitals with 53,802 beds as of 2020, according to the WHO review. Numbers do not tell you who is qualified, so the licence and the surgeon's registration are still the things to ask for in writing.
