A hair transplant is not about the scalp alone. Same grafts from the back of the head, the same FUE method — only the area changes.
FUE method, no incisions or stitches

Grafts are taken from the back of the head, the donor zone, through micro-punctures of about 1 mm, with no scars left. Before the operation, the doctor discusses the shape with you, taking your facial features into account. Transplanted hair grows for life, and the beard can be trimmed and styled as usual.

The surgeon draws the eyebrow shape at the initial consultation: you look through references with them and the design takes your facial features into account. The hairs are implanted at the right angle, so the eyebrows look natural. It also helps where plucking ended growth years ago.

Process
Comfortable rooms, up-to-date equipment, care for each patient
Patients in Accra start with a free consultation, where the doctor explains the FUE and DHI methods, answers questions, and builds a personalized surgical plan.
This step fixes your surgery date with a deposit, payable by card on site or online, and the agreement is captured in a medical services contract.
This stage involves getting the required tests done, with the clinic providing both the list and the instructions you need.
This stage applies local anaesthesia, which keeps the entire operation painless.
Grafts are taken from the donor area at the back of the head or the temples, and the process leaves no stitches.
The surgeons then implant the harvested grafts into the balding area.
This last step is about recovery, and the clinic provides everything needed along with full instructions.
The crusts come off, the puffiness goes down, the area recovers
A normal step. Only the hairs fall out, the follicles stay in place
New hairs come gradually, the result starts showing
The hair fills in, the main volume and contour are visible
The final density and natural hairline are formed
Free, ahead of surgery and with no obligations.

І experienced hair loss due to COVID and turned to this clinic; they helped me and performed a hair transplant, moving hair from the back of my head to my temples. Thank you.

I traveled to City Medical Centre, where they helped me overcome hair loss through a transplant to the balding areas of my scalp. I am grateful to the doctors for performing the procedure painlessly.

I am sharing my experience, because before the operation I went through a pile of reviews myself and was looking for real stories. I had a beard transplant six months ago. Honestly, in the first days after the procedure I felt a little jittery: my face looked unfamiliar, there was slight swelling and small scabs. In the first couple of months the hair partly fell out, as the doctor had warned. But now the result truly makes me very happy) From about the 4th month active, even growth began. The transplanted hair took very well, the beard now looks as natural as possible, no bald patches are left. The beard became much thicker and denser, with the shape I had thought about for a long time. All in all, I recommend the clinic, the doctor was polite and explained everything 👍 The result is definitely worth it!

Frequent questions
People often say hair implants, but no artificial hair is used. In a hair transplant the doctor moves your own follicles (grafts) from the donor area to thinning or bald areas using FUE or DHI.
Yes. City Medical Centre accepts patients from other cities and countries, and an online consultation is available before you decide.
FUE is $2,200 (≈ GHS 25,500), DHI is $2,500 (≈ GHS 29,000), combined DHI+FUE is $2,700 (≈ GHS 31,500). A free consultation with a graft count gives you the exact, contract-fixed price.
The surgery takes a single day, and you go home the same day.
It helps with stable pattern hair loss and a receding hairline when there are enough donor grafts. Some types of alopecia need treatment first; the doctor checks this at the consultation.
No — the procedure is done under local anaesthesia and is painless.
FUE is the classic method: grafts are harvested with tweezers, with no cuts or stitches. DHI implants grafts without channels, using a Choi pen. A combined method harvests grafts by FUE and implants them with the DHI pen.
Your graft count is worked out for free by the doctor during the consultation, based on the donor zone.
Healing runs 0–10 days, followed by normal hair shedding at 2–4 weeks. Growth kicks in at 3–4 months, thickens by 6–9 months, and reaches its final result at 12–18 months.
The clinic provides a lifetime guarantee on hair growth, stated in the contract.

What a resident of Accra gets is a one-day procedure: FUE and DHI without cuts and without stitches, under local anaesthesia. Graft survival is 98-100 %, and a price starting at $2,200 (≈ GHS 25,500) is fixed in the contract after a free count of the grafts.
The free online consultation is the whole first step in Accra: send photos of the thinning area, and the doctor looks at them and counts how many grafts are needed. The clinic is in touch 24/7, so the exchange stays convenient.
It heals within 0-10 days, the transplanted hairs shed at 2-4 weeks and this is the norm, growth appears at 3-4 months, density at 6-9 and the final result at 12-18. Along the way there are check-ups at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, photo tracking with a personal coordinator and a lifetime growth guarantee.
Prices are in US dollars; the amount in brackets is an approximate conversion to GHS at the rate of 02.10.2026. The final price is fixed in your contract.

Well-known people who spoke openly about this operation, in their own words.

How we prepare and review medical content · Medical disclaimer
The 2021 census counted 284,124 people in the Accra Metropolitan District, 1,782,150 in the wider thirteen-district territory and 5.46 million in the Greater Accra Region. A sensible way to approach the choice of a specialist is to separate two questions that are often blurred together: is the facility licensed, and is the doctor registered?
For the first question Ghana has the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency, set up under the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829). It licenses public and private health facilities, and its website carries a list of facilities holding valid licences. An initial licence is granted for three years, so ask to see the date as well as the document. For the second question there is the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana, whose practitioner verification page asks for a first name, a last name and the type of register. Specialists sit on registers separate from the general one, which is useful when the person you are told about is introduced as a surgeon or a trichologist.
The hair team at City Medical Centre brings together a transplant surgeon who is also a trichologist, a skin specialist trained as a trichologist and surgeon, and a plastic surgeon. The person who examines you in the consultation is promised to be the one who stands at the operating table. Licence, the legal body behind the treatment, and each doctor's diplomas can all be requested for inspection. Ask for the names, then run them through the Council's verification page yourself.
Keep a short log as you go: what you asked, the date, the answer, and where the proof is. A clear paper trail is worth more than a polished brochure.
A National Health Insurance card may look like it should help with any procedure. The Authority's published benefits package says otherwise for this case: cosmetic surgeries and aesthetic treatment are listed among the exclusions, while reconstructive surgery, for example after burns, is covered. A transplant for androgenetic alopecia sits in the aesthetic group, so expect to fund it from your own pocket, and have the clinic set out the whole arrangement on paper.
How the clinic handles payment is easy to follow. No figure is given until the free consultation has produced a graft count from your donor area; only then is a sum named and entered in the contract. Reserving a date takes a deposit, which can be settled with a card in person or through an online payment, and its terms sit in the same agreement. Instalments exist, and whatever sum was agreed does not change on the morning of surgery.
Read three lines of that agreement closely: the named technique, the stated graft number, and the aftercare. The aftercare described by the clinic runs from bandages and healing inspections through a written plan for both the implanted and the harvested zones, guidance on shampooing, how to sleep and what to wear on the head, to a schedule for getting back to exercise and routine hair care. A personal coordinator receives your progress photos, and check-ups are set at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months.
Every variant begins with follicles taken from the nape or the temples, and the whole operation fits into one day under a local anaesthetic. What differs is the tool and the way each graft is lifted and settled.
FUE is extraction by forceps without incisions or stitches, which the clinic rates as minimal trauma for the graft, with hair kept at its natural angle and survival put at 98 to 100 per cent. DHI uses a Choi pen to deliver every follicle directly, so no channels are cut beforehand. The third option takes grafts the FUE way and plants them the DHI way, and the clinic points to it when thinning from androgenetic alopecia needs extra density. Treat the percentages as averages that give a rough orientation; your own values are explained face to face, since they turn on the zone and on personal characteristics.
Convert that into questions. Which of the three suits my donor zone and the way my hair is thinning? What graft figure do you expect, and in which document will it appear? Who does the extracting and who does the placing? What finding would make you change course? Draw a small table: rows for technique, count, treated zone and operating doctor, one column for each clinic under comparison.
A beard or brow uses the same donor source but a new destination. Beard grafts travel through punctures of roughly 1 mm and the shape is talked through with you in advance. For brows, the surgeon sketches the line and goes over reference pictures with you, which means the outline is settled before any hair goes in.
The free online consultation asks for little: your number and photos of the thinning places. They go to a coordinator over WhatsApp or Telegram, a doctor studies them, and you receive a verdict on whether surgery would be of use. No date is held and no money changes hands at this point.
Take the pictures with dry hair, parted as you normally wear it, against a plain wall, using daylight and no flash. Capture the front, both temples, the crown and the back, and include a clear view of the donor area. An older photograph showing earlier density is a valuable extra.
Under the photographs write four short lines: when you noticed the loss, how quickly it has moved, whether relatives share it, and what you have already tried. Then add any health information, particularly if it appears on the cautions list below.
Photos reveal where hair has gone, yet the graft number is fixed only once the doctor has looked at the donor zone. Any figure derived purely from pictures is a rough guess; rely on the one stated at the consultation and entered in your contract.
The clinic is upfront that surgery is a poor fit for some people. Good reasons to proceed are androgenetic or diffuse hair loss, bare patches, and a receding front of the scalp. On the other side stand hair-pulling disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, cancer, age under 18, alopecia in patches, falling sickness, grave cardiac illness, diabetes, an implanted pacemaker, HIV, hepatitis B or C, a history of blood clots in the lung, and an allergy to anaesthetics. A high front edge of the scalp, low hair density, inherited growth patterns, damage from burns or injury, and shedding after illness or from a hormonal imbalance also call for a frank talk. Should the doctor judge that surgery will not help, find out what will, and request the reply on paper.
If you decide to go ahead, picture the next year as a diary with five entries. Days 0–10: scabs come off and puffiness settles. Weeks 2–4: the newly placed hairs drop out, an expected phase since the roots stay put. Months 3–4: fresh growth appears. Months 6–9: the hair thickens. Months 12–18: the final look, with a natural edge, is in place.
Your coordinator remains your contact the whole way. Photograph the area at every stage and file the images by date, so that each check-up has an earlier picture to be set against.
Use the same routine for questions. Keep a running list on your phone, and send it to the coordinator in one message before each review rather than in fragments. If something looks unexpected, write it down with the date and a picture the same day, and ask the coordinator whether it belongs to the normal course described above.
The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency was created by Act 829 of 2011 and licenses both public and private facilities. It publishes a list of those with valid licences. Ask the clinic for its licence and compare it with that list.
The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana has a practitioner verification page that asks for first name, last name and register type. Specialists are on registers separate from the general one, so choose the type that matches the person's stated specialty.
The Authority's benefits package lists cosmetic surgeries and aesthetic treatment among its exclusions, while reconstructive surgery, such as for burns patients, is covered. Treat a transplant for androgenetic alopecia as self-funded and ask for the arrangement in writing.
The first licence granted by the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency runs for three years. When you check a clinic, note the date shown on the document as well as the licence itself.
Yes. The first look is online and costs nothing. Send your number and the photos to the coordinator, and a doctor gives an opinion on whether a transplant is worthwhile. Nothing gets reserved.
The clinic says the doctor who consults you is the one who operates. Before accepting a date, ask for that to be put on paper.
