Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is a repeat operation that corrects the result of an earlier nose surgery, whether the nose does not look as planned or breathing has become harder. It is more demanding than a first operation because of scar tissue, it is done no earlier than a year after the first surgery, and it costs from $5,400 at our centre.

Why a second nose operation is needed

Not every first rhinoplasty lands as planned. Patients come to a revision for two broad reasons: the shape of the nose is not what was agreed, or the nose stopped working as it should, most often because breathing became harder after the operation. Both problems have a surgical answer, but the answer starts with understanding what exactly happened to the framework underneath.

It matters to separate a true problem from normal healing. Swelling, a blocked nose and changing contours in the first months after surgery are part of recovery, not a reason to reoperate.

Signs the first surgery went wrong

A real indication for revision usually looks like this: a visible irregularity or asymmetry that persists once swelling has settled, a bump that returned, a tip that drooped or shifted to one side, or a permanently blocked airway that was not there before. Persistent breathing problems deserve an examination with an assessment of the septum and the internal valves.

If you recognise yourself in the first group, the practical question is not whether something is wrong but when the nose is ready to be revisited.

Why the wait of at least a year

Surgeons advise waiting at least a year after the first rhinoplasty. By that point the swelling has largely settled, the tissues have softened and the true result is visible. Operating on scarred, still-swollen tissue makes the outcome harder to predict, so patience here is part of the treatment.

There are exceptions: a clear functional problem or an acute complication can need earlier attention, and small corrections are sometimes discussed sooner. Our rhinoplasty programme lists revision surgery as done no earlier than a year after the first operation; the timing in your case is decided by the surgeon after an examination.

Why revision is more complex than the first operation

Scar tissue changes the anatomy: the layers of the nose are fused, the usual landmarks are missing and the remaining cartilage has already been cut. The surgeon has to rebuild support, often with grafts, working through tissue that behaves differently from a virgin nose. This extra difficulty is reflected in the operating time and in the price, and it is the reason the choice of surgeon matters even more than at the first operation.

What the operation itself looks like

Technically a revision uses the same instruments and approaches as a primary rhinoplasty, open or closed, chosen according to what needs correcting. It is done under general anaesthesia and takes 1.5 to 3 hours; you then spend the first 24 hours under observation in the inpatient unit. Splints come off on day 7 and the cast and stitches on day 14, with check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months. Swelling after a revision usually takes longer to settle than after a first operation, and the surgeon will give you a personal estimate.

Revision rhinoplasty price

Revision rhinoplasty costs from $5,400 at our medical centre ($7,200 without the discount); a primary rhinoplasty starts at $4,200. The exact figure depends on how much rebuilding your case needs and is fixed in the contract after the free consultation with the surgeon. Coordinators answer in Telegram and WhatsApp around the clock: send photos of your nose and the operative documents you have, and they will arrange the assessment.

Revision rhinoplasty: the sequence of the second operation

  1. Step 1. AssessmentThe surgeon examines the nose, distinguishes a true problem from normal healing and confirms that at least a year has passed since the first operation.
  2. Step 2. Plan and priceThe approach, the extent of rebuilding and the final price are agreed and fixed in the contract.
  3. Surgery dayGeneral anaesthesia; 1.5–3 hours; splints are placed.
  4. First 24 hoursObservation in the inpatient unit, discharge the next day.
  5. Days 7–14Splints off on day 7; cast and stitches off on day 14.
  6. Months 3–6Check-ups at 3 and 6 months; swelling settles gradually.
  7. After 6 monthsThe surgeon judges how the rebuilt shape has settled.

Frequently asked questions

How much does revision rhinoplasty cost?

From $5,400 ($7,200 without the discount), against $4,200 for a first rhinoplasty. The exact price depends on the amount of rebuilding and is fixed in the contract after the free consultation.

How long must I wait after the first operation?

At least a year in most cases: by then swelling has settled and the tissues have softened. Functional problems or complications can need earlier attention, and the timing is decided by the surgeon.

Is revision more risky than the first rhinoplasty?

It is more complex: scar tissue fuses the layers and the cartilage has already been altered, so the surgeon rebuilds support, often with grafts. Predictability improves with an experienced surgeon and a settled nose.

My nose is blocked after surgery. Is that a failed result?

Not necessarily. A blocked nose and swelling in the first months are part of normal healing. A persistent blockage after the swelling settles deserves examination of the septum and internal valves.

How is the operation performed?

Through the same open or closed approaches as a primary rhinoplasty, under general anaesthesia, taking 1.5 to 3 hours, with the first 24 hours under observation in the clinic.

Is recovery longer after a revision?

Swelling usually takes longer to settle than after a first operation. The external milestones are the same: splints off at day 7, cast and stitches off at day 14, check-ups at 3 and 6 months.
