How much does liposuction cost? What affects the price and what is included
The price of liposuction is rarely a single fixed figure. It depends on how many areas are treated, how much fat is removed, which technique and anaesthesia are used and what the package covers before and after surgery. This article explains each factor, why two clinics may quote very different amounts for the same zone and how to get an exact quote before you travel.

The main points in 30 seconds
- The price depends mainly on the number and size of areas and the volume of fat.
- VASER usually costs more than tumescent liposuction for the same area.
- General anaesthesia and a hospital night add to the cost of larger procedures.
- Several areas at once are often cheaper, but there is a safe limit per session.
- Compare what each quote includes: tests, garments and follow-up visits.
Key facts about the procedure

What determines the price of liposuction
A liposuction quote is built from several parts. The main ones are the surgeon’s work, the operating theatre and anaesthesia, any hospital stay, pre-operative tests, compression garments and follow-up visits. Some clinics quote each part separately; others give one package price.
The biggest single factor is the amount of work: the number of areas, their size and the volume of fat to be removed. A small chin area takes far less time than a combined treatment of the abdomen, flanks and back. That is why a reliable price can only be given after the surgeon has seen you, either in person or through good photos.
It helps to ask two simple questions about any quote: what exactly is included, and what could be added later. A lower figure that leaves out tests, garments or aftercare can end up costing more.
Number and size of treatment areas
Most clinics price liposuction by area. Typical areas include:
- abdomen and flanks, the most common request for both women and men;
- outer and inner thighs;
- back and lower back;
- arms;
- chin and neck;
- knees;
- the chest in men, when enlargement is caused mainly by fat.
A large area such as the whole abdomen costs more than a small one such as the chin. Treating several neighbouring zones at once, for example the abdomen with the flanks, is often priced as a combined package, which usually works out cheaper than paying for each area on a separate occasion.
Your body shape also matters. The same area can hold very different amounts of fat in two people, and more fat means a longer operation.
Technique: tumescent or VASER
In tumescent liposuction the surgeon first injects a large volume of a special solution into the area. It swells the fatty tissue and constricts small blood vessels, which reduces bleeding and bruising. The fat is then removed through a thin cannula by gentle suction.
In VASER liposuction, ultrasound energy is used to loosen fat cells before they are suctioned. It is often chosen for fine contouring, for defining muscle relief and for delicate areas. Because it needs special equipment and usually more operating time, it tends to cost more than the tumescent technique for the same area.
How fat is loosened

- With ultrasound, then suction
Typical use
- Tumescent
- Most areas of local fat
- VASER
- Fine contouring, muscle definition, delicate areas
Equipment and time
- Tumescent
- Standard
- VASER
- Special device, often longer
Effect on price
- Tumescent
- Base price
- VASER
- Usually higher
The surgeon recommends the technique based on your tissue and goals, not on price alone.

Anaesthesia, hospital stay and garments
Small areas can often be treated under local anaesthesia, and you go home a few hours later. Larger or combined procedures are usually done under general anaesthesia, which adds the anaesthetist’s fee and typically one night in hospital under observation.
Other items that affect the total:
- Pre-operative tests. Blood tests, an ECG and sometimes a chest X-ray are standard. Ask whether they are included and whether earlier results from home are accepted.
- Compression garments. They are worn for about a month to six weeks after surgery. Some clinics include the first garment; a second one for washing is often bought separately.
- Follow-up visits. Check-ups in the first week and at around three and six months help judge the result. Find out whether they are part of the price.
- Extras. Lymphatic drainage massage and similar recovery treatments are usually optional and paid separately.
Why combining many procedures needs caution
Combining several areas in one operation saves you a second anaesthetic and a second recovery, and it is often cheaper overall. But there is a safe limit. The more fat removed and the longer the operation, the higher the risk of fluid shifts, blood clots and other complications.
For this reason surgeons set a limit on how much can be done in one session, based on your weight, health and the areas involved. If your plan goes beyond that limit, the surgeon may suggest two stages several months apart. That may cost a little more, but it is the safer choice.
Be wary of offers that promise a large number of areas in one go at a very low price. Safety should decide the plan, not the discount. More about who liposuction suits is on our liposuction page.
Why prices differ between clinics
Two clinics can quote very different amounts for what sounds like the same operation. The usual reasons are:
- What the quote covers. One price may include tests, anaesthesia, the hospital stay, garments and follow-up; another may cover only the surgeon’s fee.
- How areas are defined. In one clinic the abdomen may include the flanks; in another they are two separate areas.
- Technique and equipment. VASER and other device-assisted methods cost more to provide.
- Surgeon experience and hospital standards. Accredited operating theatres, anaesthesia teams and aftercare all have a cost.
- Country and city. Living costs and local regulations shape prices, which is one reason many people travel for surgery.
When you compare offers, compare the full lists of what is included rather than the headline figures.

Getting an exact quote at City Medical Centre
City Medical Centre works with international patients. The first consultation is free and can be held online: send photos of the areas you want to change from the front, side and back, and tell us your height, weight and any health conditions. The surgeon assesses the areas, suggests a technique and the type of anaesthesia and names the cost, which is then fixed in the contract.
A personal coordinator stays with you from your first message to the end of recovery, and photos and questions can be sent by Telegram. Find out more on the liposuction page.

Frequently asked questions
How is liposuction priced: per area or per operation?
Most clinics price liposuction per area, such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs or arms, and offer combined packages for neighbouring zones. The final figure also depends on the amount of fat, the technique and the anaesthesia. The surgeon can only give an exact price after seeing the areas in person or in photos.
Is VASER liposuction more expensive?
Usually yes. VASER uses ultrasound to loosen fat before suction, which requires special equipment and often more operating time. It is mainly chosen for fine contouring, muscle definition and delicate areas. For many standard areas, the tumescent technique gives a good result at a lower cost.
Are compression garments included?
It depends on the clinic. Some include the first compression garment in the package, others charge for it separately. You will need to wear it for about a month to six weeks, and many patients buy a second one so they can wash them in turn. Always ask what your quote covers.
Is it cheaper to treat several areas at once?
Often yes, because you pay for one anaesthetic, one operating session and one recovery, and combined packages usually cost less than separate operations. However, there is a safe limit to how much can be done in one session. The surgeon decides this based on your health and the areas involved.
How can I find out my price before travelling?
Send clear photos of the areas you want to treat, along with your height, weight and medical history, for a free online consultation. At City Medical Centre the surgeon assesses them and names the cost, which is then fixed in the contract, so you know the price before you book your trip.
