What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is an operation to remove excess subcutaneous fat from problem zones, not a way to slim down or to skip diet and exercise. It is aimed at targeted contouring — removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging tummy and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First, a special solution based on saline with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is injected into the treatment area. It loosens the fat tissue and constricts the vessels, minimizing blood loss and allowing gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising are close to none after the operation, and recovery is considerably easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to you, performs an examination, evaluates your fat deposits and checks for contraindications. City Medical Centre also orders hormonal screening — it helps to predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood work — complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection tests for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis — plus ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation if required.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before surgery, drop medicines that affect clotting. One week before, stop drinking and smoking for faster healing. Last meal — 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Meeting the surgeon, area marking and compression garment fitting. The type of anesthesia, local or general, depends on the scope.
Length of surgery: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

With general anesthesia — one day in hospital under observation. With local anesthesia — discharge 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Plan on 30–45 days of compression garments. Initial results show at 3–4 weeks as swelling subsides; at 3 months the skin has fully tightened and the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

Recovery is much shorter after tumescent liposuction than after a conventional procedure, and most patients resume work within 3–7 days. The first week may bring mild swelling and a raised temperature — a normal response to surgery. Wearing compression garments for 30–45 days fixes the new contours and speeds up tissue recovery. For one month, the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster healing, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. You'll see first changes in 3–4 weeks and the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Surrey step by step

Some areas keep their fat no matter how active you are or how normal your weight is. That is exactly who liposuction in Surrey is for: people with local deposits that resist training and diet, uneven fat distribution or disrupted body proportions. It also helps restore the silhouette after childbirth or sudden weight loss, and in men it removes the fat component of gynecomastia.

Follow-up does not end at discharge. The surgeon stays in touch throughout recovery, and planned check-ups take place at 7 days and at 3 months. Until the end of the year, a post-op follow-up consultation with the surgeon is at the clinic's expense, to review the result and answer questions. Patients from Surrey also get advice on returning gradually to activity.

What does the first step cost? Nothing: the plastic surgeon consultation is free. At it you learn whether liposuction suits you, which method fits your zones and what the final price will be, starting from $1,200 (≈ CA$1,750). People in Surrey can fill in the short form or write in any messenger, and the coordinator will get back to you shortly to arrange a convenient time.
