Mammoplasty in Vilnius: Implants and Price

There are several types of mammoplasty: augmentation (bigger volume with implants), reduction (removal of excess tissue and skin), mastopexy (a lift for sagging), reconstruction (after mastectomy) and correction of asymmetry. The best approach is chosen individually, considering your wishes and the surgeon's recommendation.

Complications are uncommon if every recommendation is followed, but possible ones include hematoma or seroma, wound infection, lower or higher nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, aesthetic asymmetry, wound separation and tissue necrosis.

The effect of mammoplasty lasts for years: about 10–15 years after augmentation (until the implants are replaced) and 5–10 years after a lift or reduction. Duration depends on weight, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity. Supportive underwear and a stable weight help the result last.

Breastfeeding after mammoplasty varies with the type of surgery. Lactation is usually preserved after augmentation through an under-breast or armpit incision with the implant under the muscle, because glandular tissue is not injured. After a lift or reduction there is more risk, since ducts may be cut. Discuss this in advance with your surgeon.

Implant selection considers material (silicone gives the most natural look; saline is less common), shape (round or anatomical teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), size and profile. The surgeon picks the best fit for your anatomy and wishes.

The surgery is carried out under general anesthesia, and the patient feels nothing. Moderate discomfort is possible during the first 1–3 days and is relieved by pain medication. Pain falls significantly by day 5–7, and by weeks 2–3 discomfort is over. If you have severe pain, tell your doctor at once.

Work (without physical strain) is possible after 7–14 days. Gentle walks after 1–2 weeks. Fitness and swimming after 4–6 weeks, strength workouts after 3 months. The pool and sea after 4–6 weeks. Compression garments are needed for 4–6 weeks. Exact dates depend on how your recovery goes.

Mammoplasty is not linked by scientific evidence to an increased breast cancer risk, and implants do not cause cancer. After surgery, keep doing regular screening: self-exams, mammography and ultrasound. Tell any examining doctor about your implants every time.

Mammoplasty can follow a C-section, but first your body must fully recover. Allow a minimum of 6–12 months from giving birth and from the end of breastfeeding. Before surgery, a consultation and check-up with the surgeon are required.

Scars do remain after mammoplasty, but a skilled surgeon keeps them to a minimum. Incisions are placed in hidden zones: beneath the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. The scars are reddish for the first months and fade within 6–12 months to become almost invisible.

During the first weeks after the operation, slight asymmetry is normal, since swelling and healing are uneven. If a size or shape difference continues after 3–6 months, see your surgeon for an exam to find its cause.

After mammoplasty, nipple and breast sensitivity may change temporarily — decrease or increase. The cause is irritation of nerve endings. In most cases sensitivity returns within 3–12 months. If there is no improvement after a year, see your surgeon.

There is no direct effect of hormonal drugs (contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy) on implants, but swelling or changes in breast tissue volume may occur and temporarily affect appearance. Let your surgeon know about these medications before surgery.
