Everything about rhinoplasty for Juba patients

This is one of the most delicate and popular plastic surgeries. It suits adults who want to correct the shape of the nose, whether the issue is congenital or appeared after an injury, and those with impaired nasal breathing. If you are from Juba and unhappy with the outcome of an earlier operation, secondary rhinoplasty is also an option after at least a year.

What happens after surgery? For the first day you stay under observation in the inpatient unit. Swelling gradually subsides, though the tip and bridge may remain swollen for some time. Bending over, touching the nose and wearing glasses or makeup around it are off-limits early on. The final result for patients from Juba can be judged after 1–1.5 years, once tissues fully stabilise.

How much is a nose job in Juba? The base price is $4,200 (≈ SSP 24,000,000) for the full package — from the operation itself to follow-up visits and dressings. The final amount depends on the extent of surgery and is set once the surgeon has examined your nose and facial proportions. Leave your name and phone number, and a coordinator will book your free consultation.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Juba and the decision to have rhinoplasty

Juba is the capital and largest city of South Sudan, on the White Nile, and also the capital of Central Equatoria State. The city had a population of 525,953 in 2017 and covers 52 km2, with a metropolitan area of 336 km2. It is a young and fast-changing city. People move here for work, study and business, and many residents are in their twenties and thirties. This is the age group in which most people start thinking seriously about changing the shape of the nose.

Asking about rhinoplasty in Juba is usually a calm, practical process. Some people want a straighter profile. Others want a narrower tip, or want to restore comfortable breathing after an injury. Because you contact City Medical Centre from your own city, the first steps happen at home: you write to a coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram, describe what bothers you and send photographs. Coordinators are available 24/7, so you can write in the evening after work or early in the morning, whichever suits your day in Juba.

Rhinoplasty improves aesthetics and makes facial features more harmonious, without loss of individuality. That wording matters for many patients, who do not want a nose that looks borrowed from someone else. They want their own face, only more balanced.

How the free online consultation works from Juba

The consultation is free and takes place online. You do not need to arrange anything in the city. A coordinator collects your questions, your photographs and your medical history, and then arranges a conversation with the plastic surgeon. If you miss a call, a coordinator will call you back 24/7.

At the consultation the doctor builds a 3D model of the expected result and explains it. The steps are an examination by the surgeon and 3D modelling, then your surgery plan. With 3D modelling the predicted result is visible in advance, and you agree on changes with your surgeon. This is useful in a city where many people decide together with family. You can show the model to your husband, wife, parents or a close friend and discuss it calmly before you decide.

A stable connection helps. In Juba, the quality of the internet can differ between districts and between hours of the day. If a video call drops, tell the coordinator, and the conversation can continue by voice or be moved to another time. Keep your questions in a note on your phone so that nothing is forgotten when the call resumes.

Climate of Juba and its effect on recovery

Juba has a tropical wet and dry climate and, because it lies near the equator, temperatures are hot all year. Little rain falls from November to March, and this is also the time of the hottest maximum temperatures, reaching 37.8 °C in February. From April to October more than 100 millimetres of rain falls each month, and annual precipitation is nearly 1,000 millimetres.

For recovery after rhinoplasty this has practical meaning. In the dry hot months the main concerns are strong sun, dust and sweating. The nose is protected by an aluminium cast with silicone splints inside the nasal cavity, and the cast is worn for up to 14 days. Sweat and dust under tape are unpleasant and can irritate the skin, so spend those days in a cool, shaded room and keep the skin around the cast clean as your surgeon instructs. After the cast is removed, protect the skin of the nose from direct sun and ask the surgeon which sun protection and headwear are suitable.

In the rainy months the air is humid and the ground is wet. Damp air is not a problem in itself, but crowded places, wet roads and colds are. A cold or a blocked nose is hard to tolerate while the nose is healing, so avoid people who are visibly unwell and keep your hands clean. Do not swim in rivers or pools until the surgeon allows it.

Choosing the season for the operation in Juba

No month is perfect, and the choice depends on your own calendar. The dry months, from November to March, are more convenient for moving around the city, because the rainy season from March to October makes many unpaved roads difficult. Fewer problems with roads mean less stress when you go for check-ups or to the pharmacy. On the other hand, this is the hottest period, and February can be especially hot. A cool, ventilated room in the first days is a real need then.

The rainy months bring cooler air but more humidity, and some days it is hard to leave the house. If your home is in a part of Juba where the roads become muddy, plan help with errands in advance. Your surgeon will not give a single best month. Instead, discuss with the coordinator how many days you can rest at home, because the first two weeks need a calm routine.

Whichever season you choose, begin preparation 21 days before rhinoplasty. At the first appointment our plastic surgeon will give you a list of the required tests, so you can count backwards from the date you want and see whether the schedule fits your work, studies and family plans.

Preparation: tests, habits and what to arrange at home

Getting ready involves consultations with the plastic surgeon, lab work (CBC, biochemistry, coagulation, infection tests), ECG, chest X-ray, plus a nasal X-ray or CT. Many of these can be arranged in Juba through the usual medical services, and the surgeon will tell you exactly what is required and in what form the results should be sent to the coordinator.

A week ahead, give up anticoagulants, alcohol and smoking. Discuss every medicine you take, including herbal remedies and pain relief bought without prescription, with the surgeon rather than deciding alone. The day before, eat light food. On the day of surgery, your last food and any fluids must be taken at least 6 hours before the scheduled time of the operation.

For your hospital stay, buy compression stockings (class 2 compression) in advance and bring them with you. In a hot city, choose the correct size early rather than at the last moment, and ask the coordinator if you are unsure how to measure. Also prepare at home: extra pillows to keep the head raised, soft food, and a quiet room.

The operation and the first days

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on complexity, takes 1.5 to 3 hours. The procedure is done in 1 day, and for 24 hours following rhinoplasty the patient remains under observation in the inpatient unit. In short, surgery takes 1.5–3 hours and you stay one day in the clinic.

Days 1–3: breathing is through the mouth, with splints in the nostrils. In the days right after surgery, splints or swelling may partly block the nasal passages. Nasal function is limited in the first days but recovers quickly, and you usually breathe fully again within 1–2 weeks, depending on your body and how extensive the surgery was. In Juba's heat, mouth breathing dries the lips and throat, so keep water within reach and sip small amounts.

Day 7: the splints are removed. The aluminium nasal cast is worn for up to 14 days, and stitches are removed on day 14 together with the cast. For 1–1.5 months after nose surgery you may feel slight congestion. Knowing this in advance prevents unnecessary worry during an ordinary day in the city.

Daily life in Juba: work, study, sport and family events

Juba is a working city with a lively economy and active construction, and many people are busy with trade, offices and services. A patient who works in an office can often plan a quiet period at home while the cast is on, because for the first two weeks a visible cast and swelling are the main reasons to stay away from public settings. Someone whose work means standing in the sun, dust or physical effort should talk with the surgeon about when it is reasonable to return. Do not decide it for yourself on the basis of how you feel on one good day.

Students at the University of Juba, which was founded in 1975, and at other institutions in the city, can plan the operation around a quieter period of the academic year, and send missed material by phone. For sport, avoid anything with a risk of a blow to the face, such as football or contact games, and anything with heavy strain, until the surgeon confirms it is safe. The coordinator can agree the exact timing with you at each check-up.

Family events, weddings and gatherings are important in Juba, and food is often shared with many people around one table. If an event is coming, schedule surgery so the cast and the main swelling are behind you. Swelling subsides in 2–3 weeks, but the final result is judged much later, so do not plan to be photographed for an important occasion immediately after the cast comes off. At shared meals, choose soft food at first and avoid hot, spicy dishes that cause sweating and flushing of the face while the nose is healing.

Candidates, contraindications and psychological readiness

18 to 45 is the optimal age. By this age the nose has formed completely, while tissues still heal well. With medical indications, older patients can have surgery if their general health allows. The surgeon decides individually after examination and tests, and nothing is decided only from a photograph.

Contraindications are assessed on the basis of your general health, your tests and the medicines you take. Be honest about chronic illness, past operations, allergies, bleeding problems and smoking. If something in your tests is not right, the surgeon may ask you to treat it first, and this is a sign of careful work, not a refusal.

Psychological readiness is also part of preparation. The patient should understand that the final result will be visible in 1–1.5 years. The nose takes its final shape after 1–1.5 years, and first improvements show once swelling subsides, in 2–3 weeks. If you expect a finished result in a few days, talk to the coordinator before booking and set realistic expectations.

From a Bari village to a capital: how Juba's history shapes the way people plan surgery

Juba began in 1920–21 as a mission of the Church Missionary Society in a small Bari village that was also called Juba, where the Nugent Memorial Intermediate School was opened. In the late 1920s the town was built as the capital of Mongalla Province, partly because of that school and partly because of its closeness to river transport on the Nile. Major construction was underway by 1927, traders from Rejaf moved in during 1929, and the Governor's office of Mongalla followed in 1930. A city with such a deliberate beginning tends to have residents who like order, and the same habit helps with rhinoplasty: a clear plan, a calendar and a list of tasks.

Juba became the capital of the Autonomous Government of Southern Sudan in 2005 and the national capital on 9 July 2011. Between 2006 and 2011 the population rose very quickly, and the city became a mosaic of neighbourhoods whose residents came from many places. Because of this, the people who write to a coordinator about rhinoplasty come from very different families, languages and circles. Some decide alone. Others consult relatives in a village or in another quarter before they agree to anything. Both approaches work, as long as the 3D model and the surgery plan are shown to everyone who will help you at home during the first two weeks.

A young capital also means many people are building careers right now: new jobs, new studies, new businesses. Patients often ask whether a visible cast will damage a first impression at work. The honest answer is that the cast is worn for up to 14 days, so plan that period as a quiet stage and let your employer or teacher know that you will be away from public settings for a short time.

Downtown market, Hai Jalaba and the working rhythm of the city

Greek merchants played a central role in the early years of Juba. They built many structures in the downtown Juba Market area and in the quarter that British soldiers called the Greek Quarter, today the small suburb of Hai Jalaba, and many of these buildings still stand. The old trading streets are still a place of crowds, noise, dust and strong sun. For a person who sells, buys or works near the market, this is a real planning question: such an environment is the least suitable one while the nose is covered by an aluminium cast with silicone splints inside.

If you work in trade, arrange for a relative or colleague to take over your stall or shift for the first days. The splints come out on day 7, and the cast stays for up to 14 days, with stitches removed on day 14. Discuss with the surgeon when you can return to crowded, dusty places. Fine dust and sweat irritate the skin around the cast, and crowds raise the chance of an accidental knock. You will probably feel slight congestion for 1–1.5 months, so do not judge your breathing on the first morning back at work.

The city also has banks and offices: the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank, and the indigenous Buffalo Commercial Bank, Ivory Bank and Nile Commercial Bank have their presence in Juba. Employees of such offices work with clients face to face, and they often prefer to schedule surgery before a quieter stretch of the year and to agree leave in advance. A short written note from the surgeon about the recovery programme is something you can request through the coordinator.

Studying in Juba: University of Juba, the Peace Library and other schools

The University of Juba was founded in 1975, and the city is also home to Kampala International University, the Catholic University of South Sudan, the Episcopal University of South Sudan, Starford International University and Ayii University. Students and young teachers are a large part of the people who think about rhinoplasty, and they ask a typical set of questions: will I miss lectures, can I take exams with a cast, and when does my face look ordinary again?

Plan the operation for a gap between terms or before a lighter stretch of coursework. Swelling subsides in 2–3 weeks, but the nose takes its final shape after 1–1.5 years, so do not expect to look finished for the next examination or ceremony. Ask the faculty in advance how missed classes can be covered, and keep notes with a classmate who can send material by phone while you rest.

The Juba Public Peace Library, founded on 1 October 2019 and holding over 13,000 books, is a quiet place that people in the city know. It is useful in another way for recovery: reading is an ideal activity for the days when you must rest at home with your head raised. Prepare a pile of books or saved texts before surgery. After the first check-up you can ask whether short visits to quiet public places are acceptable, and the surgeon will answer according to how your tissues are healing.

Food, church and community life in Juba around the operation

Everyday food in Juba includes kisra, a flatbread made from sorghum or maize flour, bamia, a stew of okra with tomatoes, onions and beef or goat, asida, a sorghum porridge, ful medames for breakfast, malakwang, a stew of leafy greens with peanuts and butter, and ugali. Most of these dishes are soft or can be made soft, which is an advantage in the first days when breathing is through the mouth and the splints are in the nostrils. Asida, ugali and a well-cooked bamia are easy to eat without much chewing. Prepare them in advance, or ask a relative to cook, so you do not need to stand in a hot kitchen.

Very hot, peppery stews can bring sweat and redness to the face, and in Juba's heat this is not what a healing nose needs. Choose dishes at a moderate temperature for the first weeks. Alcohol must be given up a week ahead of surgery, and it is wise to keep away from it afterwards until the surgeon agrees, which is worth explaining to relatives before a shared meal. The day before surgery eat light food, and take no food 6 hours before the operation.

Places of worship in Juba consist mostly of Christian churches: the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, the Baptist Convention of South Sudan and the Presbyterian Church in Sudan. For many families a Sunday service is the centre of the week and a social occasion. A visible cast and swelling are a reason to postpone attendance at large gatherings for the first two weeks, then ask the surgeon when you may return. Many patients find that the support of their community, prayers and visits from close friends at home, make this quiet period easier.

Hospitals, the Nile and sport in Juba: practical points for aftercare

Juba has several health facilities: Juba Teaching Hospital, Juba Military Referral Hospital, Al Sabah Children's Hospital and primary health care centres such as Nyakurun, Munuki and Gurei. Rhinoplasty with City Medical Centre is planned remotely, and the operation is done in the clinic where you stay one day, so you do not need to choose a local hospital for it. However, it helps to know which local facility you would visit for basic tests, for an urgent problem unrelated to the nose, or for a simple check of your general condition. Tell the coordinator about any such visit so the surgeon has complete information.

The White Nile defines the city, and many people spend free time near the water. Until the surgeon allows it, avoid swimming in the river or in pools, because water, contamination and physical effort are not suitable for a healing nose. Wearing sunglasses that rest on the bridge of the nose is also something to ask about at the check-up, as pressure on the nose is unwelcome in the early weeks.

Sport is part of life in the city. Basketball is followed with pride, and young people play football and other games in the neighbourhoods. Any game with a risk of a ball or an elbow to the face should wait until the surgeon confirms it is safe. The check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months are good moments to ask this question again. A patient who trains regularly can keep a light walking routine in the cooler hours of the day, but heavy strain, bending and lifting should wait for the surgeon's permission.

Follow-up from Juba and questions for the surgeon

Once surgery is done, you follow a recovery programme, with check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months to track progress. Consultations with your surgeon stay free for a year after surgery, and follow-up support lasts 12 months. For a patient in Juba, it means you can send photographs, describe how you feel and receive answers without arranging anything else in the city. Coordinators are reachable 24/7, booking is straightforward, and the approach is personal, adapting to your pace.

Prepare your questions before the consultation. Ask what changes are realistic for your nose and skin type and how they will look on the 3D model. Ask which tests you must do, which medicines to stop, how long the cast stays on, and which signs mean you should write to the coordinator at once. Ask when you can go back to work, to study and to sport, and what to do with the heat and sun in the first weeks.

Keep a short diary of recovery: photographs on the same day each week, notes on breathing and swelling. It makes each check-up more precise and helps you see real progress.

Can I have the first consultation without leaving Juba?

Yes. The consultation is online and free. You write to a coordinator on WhatsApp or Telegram, send photographs and your medical history, and speak with the plastic surgeon by video or phone.

What does the surgeon show at the consultation?

At the consultation, the doctor will build a 3D model of the expected result and explain it. You examine the predicted outcome in advance and agree on changes with your surgeon.

How long does the operation take and how long do I stay?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and, depending on complexity, takes 1.5 to 3 hours. For 24 hours following surgery you remain under observation in the inpatient unit.

When should preparation begin?

Preparation should begin 21 days before rhinoplasty. At the first appointment the plastic surgeon gives you a list of required tests, including lab work, ECG, chest X-ray and a nasal X-ray or CT.

What should I do before the day of surgery?

A week ahead, give up anticoagulants, alcohol and smoking. The day before, eat light food. Your last food and any fluids must be taken at least 6 hours before the scheduled time of the operation. Also buy compression stockings (class 2 compression) and bring them with you.

How hot weather in Juba affects recovery?

Sun, heat, dust and sweat can irritate the skin under the cast. Rest in a cool, shaded room in the first days, keep the skin clean as instructed, protect the nose from direct sun after the cast is removed, and ask the surgeon about suitable headwear.

When are the splints and the cast removed?

On day 7 the splints are removed. The aluminium nasal cast is worn for up to 14 days, and stitches are removed on day 14 together with the cast.

When will I breathe normally again?

You usually breathe fully again within 1–2 weeks, depending on your body and how extensive the surgery was. For 1–1.5 months you may feel slight congestion.

When can I see the final result?

First improvements show once swelling subsides, in 2–3 weeks. The final result can be judged in 1–1.5 years, when tissues fully stabilise.

Is there support after the operation?

Yes. There are check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months, consultations with your surgeon stay free for a year after surgery, and follow-up support lasts 12 months. Coordinators are available 24/7.

Which Juba habits should I adjust in the first two weeks after rhinoplasty?

Avoid crowded, dusty places such as busy market streets, hot kitchens and large gatherings while the aluminium cast is on. The splints come out on day 7 and the cast stays for up to 14 days, so organise help at work and at home before the operation.

I study at a university in Juba. When is the best moment for surgery?

Choose a gap between terms or a lighter stretch of coursework. Swelling subsides in 2–3 weeks, but the final result is judged in 1–1.5 years, so do not time the operation just before an important ceremony or photograph.

Can I eat the usual Juba dishes after surgery?

Soft dishes such as asida, ugali and well-cooked bamia are easier in the first days. Avoid very hot or peppery food that causes sweating and flushing, and keep the rule of no food 6 hours before the operation.

Can I swim in the Nile or go back to basketball and football?

Not until your surgeon allows it. Swimming and any sport with a risk of a blow to the face should wait, and you can ask about the right time at each check-up at 7 days, 3 and 6 months.
