What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Excess fat under the skin in problem areas is removed surgically — that is liposuction. It is not a weight-loss tool and no substitute for diet or exercise. The goal is precise contouring: taking away thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A special solution based on saline, with lidocaine, adrenaline and some other agents, is injected into the area first. It softens the fat tissue and constricts vessels, minimising blood loss and making removal gentle. After that, a thin cannula removes the fat emulsion by vacuum.

You get almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is far easier than after a conventional one.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound breaks down fat cells before they are removed by vacuum. It is the ideal method for bringing out muscle relief — athletic abs — and contouring the body.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

At the visit the doctor listens to your goals, examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. City Medical Centre adds a hormonal screening, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Complete blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry and infection tests (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), an ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a consultation with a GP.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medicines that affect blood clotting. A week before, give up alcohol and smoking to heal faster. 8 hours before, have your last meal.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
From 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours when procedures are combined.

Waking up and monitoring

General anesthesia means one day in hospital under observation; with local anesthesia, discharge is 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. First results show in 3–4 weeks as swelling goes down. The final result is assessed at 3 months, once the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction you recover much faster than after a conventional procedure — most patients are back at work in 3–7 days. A little swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are a normal response to surgery. Compression garments stay on for 30–45 days, fixing the new contours and speeding up tissue recovery. In the first month, avoid the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport. To get the best result and recover faster, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. Visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks and the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

About liposuction for patients from Leeds

Two techniques are used. In tumescent liposuction a saline-based solution with lidocaine and adrenaline is injected first; it loosens fat and constricts vessels, so blood loss is minimal and there is almost no bruising. In VASER liposuction ultrasound breaks down fat cells before vacuum removal, which suits athletic abs and delicate zones. The surgeon picks the method for each patient in Leeds.

Inside the operating room the process is gentle. With the tumescent method a solution of saline, lidocaine and adrenaline is injected into the area, loosening the fat and narrowing vessels. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula. With VASER, ultrasound breaks down fat cells first. Either way, patients from Leeds get micro-incisions that are barely visible later.

If you are comparing liposuction prices in Leeds, check what the figure depends on: the number of zones, their size and the chosen technique. Here the starting price is $1,200, the final sum is set after an examination and nothing hidden is added. Hormonal screening before surgery and surgeon support through recovery are part of the approach. Book a free consultation to get your plan.
