What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is a surgical way to remove surplus subcutaneous fat from troublesome areas. It is not meant for weight loss or as an alternative to diet and exercise. Instead, it sculpts specific zones: thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Good candidates have a normal weight and an active lifestyle, yet certain zones keep their fat. The essential point is that fat cells removed from treated areas never grow back — keep your lifestyle steady and the result lasts long.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

The surgeon starts by injecting a special saline-based solution containing lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents into the treatment area. It loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, which minimises bleeding and allows gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure, with almost no swelling or bruising after surgery.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Ultrasound breaks down fat cells before they are removed by vacuum. It is the ideal method for bringing out muscle relief — athletic abs — and contouring the body.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

Your wishes are heard, then the doctor examines you, assesses fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is ordered too, helping to predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

ECG, chest X-ray, blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis and syphilis) and, where needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medications that affect blood clotting. A week before, stop alcohol and smoking for faster healing. 8 hours before, the last meal.

Surgery day

Consultation with the surgeon, area marking and fitting of compression garments. Anesthesia is local or general, per the scope.
Length of surgery: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

General anesthesia means one day in hospital under observation; with local anesthesia, discharge is 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Plan on 30–45 days of compression garments. Initial results show at 3–4 weeks as swelling subsides; at 3 months the skin has fully tightened and the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 3–7 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks, the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Sheffield: techniques, stages and price

Liposuction is a surgical method of removing excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas. It is not a weight-loss tool and does not replace diet or exercise: its purpose is targeted contouring. Patients from Sheffield most often ask about saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly, and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin. Fat cells taken from treated areas do not grow back, so with a steady lifestyle the result lasts.

It starts with a surgeon consultation: the doctor listens to your wishes, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications, and a hormonal screening is ordered to predict the long-term result. Patients from Sheffield then take pre-operative tests — blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection screening, ECG and chest X-ray — which can all be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Liposuction in Sheffield costs from $1,200. The exact amount depends on which areas you want to correct — abdomen, flanks, thighs, back, arms, chin or knees — and on whether they are combined in one operation. The surgeon calculates it individually after the examination. The first consultation is free, and a coordinator will book it once you leave a request.
