How it goes
An agreed plan for correction, hospital observation and a year of recovery monitoring.
1The surgeon examines your figure, discusses your wishes and selects the best volume, shape and correction method.
2We reserve a surgery date for you: the deposit can be paid by card at the clinic or online by bank transfer. The terms are fixed in the contract for medical services
3Before the operation you take a full set of tests: blood tests, an ECG and any other examinations the doctor prescribes.
4The operation follows your individual mammoplasty plan and is performed under general anesthesia with continuous monitoring of the patient.
5Following surgery, you recover in a comfortable inpatient ward of the clinic with the medical team looking after you until discharge.
6You get a personal recovery programme after the operation. Follow-up visits at 7 days, 3 and 6 months monitor healing; for a year, surgeon consultations are free of charge.

Stop using drugs with aspirin, steroids and hormonal medications prescribed for chronic conditions before surgery
At least one month before the procedure, oral hormonal contraceptives should be stopped
Do your tests a week before the operation
Some simple steps help before surgery: a healthy work-life balance, more sleep, avoiding stress, anxiety and strong emotions, and less physical activity.
Up to 40 days without intense gym workouts or overly active aerobics; after a month you can try light cardio. Stay mindful of your diet and meals.
Swelling from surgery fades after 3 weeks
Within 3 months, discomfort disappears
Scars develop within 3 weeks
No heavy exertion (lifting more than 3 kg)
Within 3 months, inflammation in the tissue fully resolves and a “pocket” takes shape around the implant
Recovery after correction includes wearing compression garments for 1–1.5 months
Avoid raising arms above shoulder level — 3 weeks
Up to three months without baths or saunas, and without physiotherapy

FAQ
Mammoplasty spans several procedures: augmentation (enlargement with implants), reduction (excess tissue and skin are removed), mastopexy (lift of sagging breasts), reconstruction (after mastectomy) and asymmetry correction. The ideal method is chosen for you individually, taking into account your wishes and the surgeon's advice.
Message us — our coordinator will get back to you shortly and book your consultation. The plastic surgeon consultation is free.
Complications are rare when recommendations are fully followed, yet they can include hematoma or seroma, wound infection, reduced or increased nipple sensitivity, capsular contracture, aesthetic asymmetry, separation of the wound and tissue necrosis.
Mammoplasty results are durable: about 10–15 years following augmentation (until implant replacement) and 5–10 years following a lift or reduction. Weight, pregnancy, aging skin and gravity influence how long the effect lasts. Maintain it by wearing supportive underwear and watching your weight.
Breastfeeding after mammoplasty varies with the type of surgery. Lactation is usually preserved after augmentation through an under-breast or armpit incision with the implant under the muscle, because glandular tissue is not injured. After a lift or reduction there is more risk, since ducts may be cut. Discuss this in advance with your surgeon.
Implant selection considers material (silicone gives the most natural look; saline is less common), shape (round or anatomical teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), size and profile. The surgeon picks the best fit for your anatomy and wishes.
General anesthesia is used for the surgery itself, so there is no sensation. In the first 1–3 days you may feel moderate discomfort, which painkillers relieve. Pain subsides significantly by day 5–7 and discomfort is gone by weeks 2–3. If pain becomes severe, inform your doctor right away.
Returning to work without physical exertion is possible after 7–14 days, and light walks after 1–2 weeks. Fitness and swimming are allowed after 4–6 weeks, strength training after 3 months, and the pool and sea after 4–6 weeks. Compression garments: 4–6 weeks. Exact timing depends on recovery.
No scientific data suggest that mammoplasty increases breast cancer risk, and implants are not carcinogenic. After the operation, continue regular screening: self-examination, mammography and ultrasound. Always tell the doctor who examines you about your implants.
You can have mammoplasty after a C-section, though your body needs to recover completely first. Wait a minimum of 6–12 months after childbirth and the end of breastfeeding. Before surgery, a surgeon's consultation and examination are mandatory.
There are scars after mammoplasty, though a skilled surgeon keeps them minimal. The incisions go in discreet areas, such as under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. Early on the scars are reddish, but over 6–12 months they fade and are almost unnoticeable.
During the first weeks after the operation, slight asymmetry is normal, since swelling and healing are uneven. If a size or shape difference continues after 3–6 months, see your surgeon for an exam to find its cause.
After mammoplasty, sensitivity of the nipples and breasts may change for a while, becoming lower or higher. This is due to irritation of the nerve endings. In most cases sensitivity comes back within 3–12 months. If nothing improves after a year, see your surgeon.
Hormonal medications (contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy) do not act on implants directly, yet they may lead to swelling or shifts in breast tissue volume that affect the look for a while. Make sure your surgeon knows about them before surgery.
Prices are in US dollars; the amount in brackets is an approximate conversion to ZAR at the rate of 02.10.2026. The final price is fixed in your contract.
Prices start from $4,700 (≈ R79,000). The surgeon sets the final price at the free consultation, and it is fixed in the contract, with no hidden extras.

The goal of the surgery is a natural-looking bust in harmony with the figure. For those from Welkom, the process starts with choosing implants: silicone is the usual material, while saline is used less often. The surgeon then weighs shape, surface, size and profile. When sagging is also present, augmentation can be combined with a lift in a single combined operation.
The journey begins with an initial consultation: the doctor examines and palpates the breasts to rule out lumps and discusses expectations with you. Patients from Welkom then complete a pre-op work-up — blood tests, coagulation panel, infection screening, ECG, chest X-ray and breast ultrasound. The surgery lasts 1.5 to 3 hours under general anesthesia, followed by one day of inpatient observation.
One payment, many components. For from $4,700 (≈ R79,000), Welkom patients receive result modelling at the consultation, surgery by a highly experienced team, a stay in inpatient rooms, meals, nursing supervision around the clock and support at every stage. Dressings and check-ups for the whole year are also included. The first step costs nothing: book a free consultation with the plastic surgeon.

I went to Dmitry Sergeyevich for breast augmentation with implants. At the consultation everything was explained in detail, and together we chose the best size. The operation under combined anaesthesia took 2 hours, and I was discharged home the next day. The swelling went down in about a month, and my breasts look very natural. The year of follow-up care is a real lifesaver: you can always ask a question and get an answer. Thank you to the clinic!

Welkom is a city in the Free State province of South Africa, about 140 kilometres northeast of Bloemfontein. It is known as Circle City and City Within A Garden, and its Sesotho name, Matjhabeng, means 'where nations meet'. For breast augmentation this matters in a practical way. People here are used to making important decisions carefully, comparing options and speaking with family before they commit. A planned operation fits that habit, and the first step is simply a conversation.
City Medical Centre offers a free online consultation to anyone in Welkom. Coordinators are available around the clock (24/7) on Telegram and Telegram. You write from home, send your questions and photographs if you wish, and a coordinator will call you back 24/7. Your time matters to us: we work 24/7, booking is easy, and our personal approach adapts to your pace. Shift workers, nurses, teachers and students can all choose a moment that suits their day.
Augmentation is a planned operation, not an urgent one, so there is no need to rush. Use the first conversations to describe what you want: a natural proportion, a fuller upper part of the breast, or restored volume after pregnancy. The surgeon then explains what is realistic for your body, and you can take the time you need to decide.
Welkom normally receives about 401 mm to 550 mm of rain per year, depending on wet or dry cycles, and most of it falls in mid-summer. January is the wettest month, with about 70 mm, and July the driest, with 0 mm. Average daily maximum temperatures range from 17 °C in June to 29 °C in January, and in July the nights drop to 0 °C on average. These seasons shape how comfortable the weeks after surgery are.
In the warm months, heat and sun are the main concerns. After surgery you wear compression garments, and in January heat they can feel heavy. Choose soft, breathable layers over the garment, keep the skin out of direct sun, and rest in a cool room in the afternoon. Remember that the incisions are reddish early on, and strong sunlight on fresh scars is best avoided. The medical guidance is that compression garments stay on for 4–6 weeks, and where the correction involves a longer course, recovery involves 1–1.5 months of compression garments. Timing depends on your recovery.
In winter, cold mornings and nights mean you will want warm, loose, front-fastening clothing, because you must not lift your arms above shoulder height for 3 weeks. A zip-up top or a button shirt is much easier to put on than a jumper pulled over the head. Cool weather also makes the compression garment more pleasant to wear.
There is no single correct month. The cooler months, with daytime highs around 17 °C in June, make the garment easier to tolerate and let you rest under blankets without discomfort. The warm, wet months bring heat but also long days that suit gentle walks, which are allowed from 1–2 weeks after surgery. Discuss your preference with the coordinator and the surgeon.
Think about the rest of your calendar. Pool and sea are allowed after 4–6 weeks, so if you plan a holiday on the water, count backwards from that date. If you want to be in your usual clothes for a family event, remember that swelling after surgery goes away after 3 weeks, while the final shape settles more slowly. In 3 months any inflammatory changes in the tissue disappear, and a 'pocket' forms around the implant.
Allow a buffer. Healing is individual, and it is calmer to schedule the operation well before an important date than right up against it.
Welkom grew after gold was discovered in the region and was officially proclaimed a town in 1948. The city still has a working culture built around the gold fields and the wider district. The Welkom region forms part of the Maize Triangle and is a major producer of sunflowers, poultry and beef cattle. Many local jobs therefore involve standing, carrying, driving or practical physical tasks, and that is exactly what you need to plan around.
The medical guidance says you may go back to work (with no physical exertion) after 7–14 days, and back to work after 7–14 days is typical for desk-based roles. If your work involves lifting, the rule is clear: no heavy exertion, meaning no lifting more than 3 kg, and no lifting arms above shoulder height for 3 weeks. Talk to your employer early, and where possible arrange lighter duties for the first weeks.
Students at the Central University of Technology satellite campus, FET College Goldfields, Welkom Technical College, Welkom Technological Institute or Welkom Nursing College can plan around term breaks. Carrying a heavy bag of books counts as lifting, so ask a friend to help or use a light bag. Nursing students in particular should ask about their practical placements, because patient handling involves exertion.
Sport is part of Welkom's identity. The Phakisa Freeway between Welkom and Odendaalsrus opened in 1999 and hosted MotoGP's South African motorcycle Grand Prix from 1999 to 2004. The area also has a strong rugby tradition, with several Springbok players from the city, and stadia such as the North West Stadium and Zuka Baloyi Stadium. If you play, coach or simply follow sport, you will want a clear return plan.
The medical facts are specific. For as long as 40 days, stay away from intense gym workouts and overly active aerobics. Light cardio is possible after a month. Fitness and swimming are allowed after 4–6 weeks, and strength training is allowed after 3 months. Monitor your diet and meals as you return to training.
Standing in a crowd at a match is usually fine for a patient who is recovering well, but avoid being jostled in the first weeks. Social netball, tennis or a game of touch rugby should wait until the surgeon agrees. Ask your surgeon to give you a written timetable for your sport, so you know when each activity returns.
Family gatherings, braais, church events and weddings are central to life in the Free State. Food culture here leans toward meat, maize and hearty home cooking, and long social meals are common. That matters for recovery in two ways. First, you will probably want to avoid hosting or cooking heavy dishes while you are not allowed to lift more than 3 kg. Let relatives carry pots and trays. Second, long-term results depend partly on stable weight.
Results after mammoplasty last a long while: about 10–15 years for augmentation (until implant replacement). Weight changes, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity affect their duration. To maintain the result, choose supportive underwear and control your weight. The World Health Organization publishes general information on overweight and obesity, and it is a sensible reference for anyone thinking about long-term healthy weight.
If you expect to become pregnant soon, discuss timing openly with the surgeon. Mammoplasty after a C-section is possible, but only once your body has fully recovered. Allow at least 6–12 months after giving birth and after breastfeeding stops. A consultation and check-up with a surgeon are required before surgery.
General anaesthesia is used for the surgery itself, so there is no sensation. The hospital stay is described in the medical facts as 1 day or 1–2 days, depending on the plan. There is 24/7 monitoring by medical staff. In the first 1–3 days you may feel moderate discomfort, which painkillers relieve. Pain subsides significantly by day 5–7 and discomfort is gone by weeks 2–3. If pain becomes severe, inform your doctor right away.
After surgery you get a recovery programme. Check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months help track your recovery. For a year after surgery, consultations with your surgeon are free, and follow-up support runs for 12 months. For a patient in Welkom this means you can send photographs and questions through Telegram or Telegram at each stage, without waiting for a distant appointment.
Scars are part of the picture. There are scars after mammoplasty, though a skilled surgeon keeps them minimal. The incisions go in discreet areas, such as under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. Early on the scars are reddish, but over 6–12 months they fade and are almost unnoticeable. In the first weeks slight asymmetry is normal. If shape or size still differ after 3–6 months, see your surgeon for a check-up to find the reason.
Breast and nipple sensitivity may change for a time, going down or up, because of irritation of nerve endings. In the majority of cases sensitivity is restored within 3–12 months. If nothing has improved after a year, consult your surgeon. Discomfort fades after 3 months.
Welkom takes its name from a farm: the word is Afrikaans and Dutch for 'welcome'. A settlement was laid out there after gold was found in the region. The town came into being in April 1947, was proclaimed in July 1948 and received city status in February 1968, when the Civic Centre was opened. Few cities in the country are so young, and the plan of the place shows it: it was designed rather than grown.
The best-known result of that design is the road layout. Welkom is known for its traffic circles, 33 large ones at present, with a minimum of stop streets and no traffic lights or parking meters in the central business district. For a patient in the first days after breast augmentation this is a quiet advantage. Smooth, continuous traffic means fewer sudden stops, and fewer jolts matter when your chest is tender and you must not lift more than 3 kg. Ask the person driving you home from the hospital to take the circles gently and to keep the seat belt comfortable over the compression garment.
The Civic Centre, begun in 1964, is a reminder of how the city planned for the long term. Treat your own operation the same way: decide the date, line up help at home, and arrange your first check-up at 7 days before you need it.
Welkom is the hub of the Free State Goldfields, and the skyline has long been dominated by headgears and reduction plants of mines such as St Helena, Free State Geduld, President Brand, President Steyn, Phakisa and Tshepong. The city's Sesotho name, Matjhabeng, 'where nations meet', comes from migrant labour that brought people from Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and elsewhere to the gold fields. Many households here still organise life around shift patterns, with early starts, night shifts and long hours.
Shift rhythms are a good reason to use an online consultation that runs around the clock. A woman whose husband works underground, or who herself works nights in a hospital or a plant, can write to the coordinator at 3 a.m. and receive a call back 24/7. Planning matters for the days after surgery too. If you are the one who normally drives children to school, cooks for the household or manages the family's shift roster, hand those tasks over for the first weeks, because there is no lifting arms above shoulder height for 3 weeks.
The city also hosts industry beyond mining: steel, lumber, dairy products and beef, plus a Coca-Cola plant and South African Breweries. Workers in production, packing or maintenance should describe their tasks exactly to the surgeon. Return to work after 7–14 days applies to work without physical exertion, so a job on a line or in a workshop may need lighter duties first.
Welkom lies at 1435 metres above sea level on open grassland. Only one hill, Koppie Alleen, interrupts the landscape. Trees and shrubs are infrequent because of heavy winter frost, so there is little natural shade when you walk. During the first light walks, allowed after 1–2 weeks, choose a route with a bench or a covered spot, and take a hat and a light cover for the scars, which are reddish early on.
The city is surrounded by grassland, farmland and mine dumps, and dry windy days can lift dust. Keep dressings clean, wash your hands before touching the wound area, and avoid long walks on the dustiest days. Ask the surgeon how to care for the area in dry air.
Parks such as Central Park, Peter Pan Park, Van Riebeeck Park and West Park are gentle places for slow walks once you are cleared to take them. Short, flat loops suit the early weeks better than long distances. Pool and sea are allowed after 4–6 weeks, and until then a shaded park bench is the right level of outing.
Welkom has public and private hospitals as well as specialised clinics, and primary care clinics are also found in Thabong and Bronville. You do not need any of them to start. The consultation with City Medical Centre is online, and the operation itself is planned with the surgeon. What a local health system does give you is a place to turn for everyday questions during recovery, such as a routine check of your general health before surgery.
Bring your medical history to the first conversation: past operations, allergies, medicines you take and any chronic condition. Ask your local clinic for records if you need them. This helps the surgeon judge whether you are a suitable candidate. After the operation, check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months are part of the recovery programme, and for 12 months you can send questions and photographs to your surgeon.
If pain becomes severe, inform your doctor right away. Keep the coordinator's Telegram or Telegram contact visible at home, and tell the person staying with you what to do if you feel unwell.
The Phakisa Freeway, with its road course and banked oval, draws crowds, and rugby is followed closely through the Griffons Rugby Union and the many Springbok players linked to the city. Zuka Baloyi Stadium and Vuyo Charles Stadium host football. Weekend sport is a social centre for many families.
If you plan a big event, put it well after your surgery date. Swelling after surgery goes away after 3 weeks, and light cardio is possible after a month, so a loud, crowded race day or match in the first weeks is a poor idea, since a knock to the chest would be unwelcome. Choose a seat with space around you and bring a friend who can shield you from crowds.
Women who play sport at club level, run, or coach should ask for a written return timetable. For as long as 40 days, stay away from intense gym workouts and overly active aerobics, and strength training is allowed after 3 months. Pair this with supportive sports underwear when you return.
Good candidates are generally adults in stable health who want a change in breast size or shape and who have realistic expectations. Contraindications are decided individually, and typically include active illness, an uncontrolled chronic condition, or pregnancy and breastfeeding. A full consultation and check-up come first, and the surgeon will tell you honestly if the operation is not suitable now.
Prepare questions before the call. Ask which incision position suits you and why. Ask about implant size relative to your frame, and how the result will look with your usual clothing. Ask how long the implants usually last, and what replacement involves. Ask what the recovery programme includes, who answers your messages at night, and what to do if something worries you. Ask when you may drive, return to a physical job, and resume your sport.
Residents of Welkom often add practical questions: how to manage the summer heat in a compression garment, what to do about dust on a windy day when you want to keep a dressing clean, and how to plan around school and farm schedules. A good surgeon will answer these plainly. Write the answers down and keep them with your recovery programme.
Yes. The consultation is online and free. Coordinators are available around the clock (24/7) on Telegram and Telegram, and a coordinator will call you back 24/7. You can write at any hour that suits your shifts, studies or family routine.
You may go back to work (with no physical exertion) after 7–14 days. If your job in a mine-related business, on a farm or in a warehouse involves lifting, there are limits: no heavy exertion (lifting more than 3 kg) and no lifting arms above shoulder height for 3 weeks.
General anaesthesia is used for the surgery itself, so there is no sensation. In the first 1–3 days you may feel moderate discomfort, which painkillers relieve. Pain subsides significantly by day 5–7 and discomfort is gone by weeks 2–3. If pain becomes severe, inform your doctor right away.
For as long as 40 days, stay away from intense gym workouts and overly active aerobics. Light cardio is possible after a month. Fitness and swimming are allowed after 4–6 weeks, and strength training after 3 months. Timing depends on your recovery.
Compression garments stay on for 4–6 weeks. In hot weather, choose breathable clothes over the garment, rest in a cool room and avoid direct sun on the skin. Daily maxima average 29 °C in January, so plan quiet afternoons.
There are scars, though a skilled surgeon keeps them minimal. Incisions go under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. Early on the scars are reddish, but over 6–12 months they fade and are almost unnoticeable.
Results last about 10–15 years for augmentation (until implant replacement). Weight changes, pregnancy, skin aging and gravity affect their duration. To maintain the result, choose supportive underwear and control your weight.
It is possible, but only once your body has fully recovered. Allow at least 6–12 months after giving birth and after breastfeeding stops. A consultation and check-up with a surgeon are required before surgery.
After surgery you get a recovery programme. Check-ups at 7 days, 3 and 6 months help track your recovery. For a year after surgery, consultations with your surgeon are free, and follow-up support lasts 12 months.
Do not drive yourself home after general anaesthesia. Ask someone to drive and to take the circles gently. When you are cleared to drive, check that you can turn the wheel without lifting your arms above shoulder height, which is not allowed for 3 weeks.
Yes. Coordinators are available 24/7 on Telegram and Telegram, so you can write after a night shift. Tell the surgeon about your tasks: you may return to work (with no physical exertion) after 7–14 days, and lifting more than 3 kg is not allowed.
Light walks are possible after 1–2 weeks. Flat paths in places such as Central Park or Van Riebeeck Park suit that stage. Choose shade, wear a hat and avoid dusty, windy days.
Wait. Swelling goes away after 3 weeks, and crowds risk knocks to the chest. Intense workouts are off the list for as long as 40 days, so choose a date well after your recovery has progressed and ask your surgeon.
