FAQ

Rhinoplasty:
questions patients ask

Rhinoplasty (nose job) — one of the more delicate and frequently requested plastic surgeries, meant to adjust the nose's shape to the individual proportions of the nose and the whole face. Modern rhinoplasty is not merely a procedure to change how the nose appears, but complex surgical work aimed at an aesthetic ideal without risking health.

Rhinoplasty in Constantine from consultation to final shape

There are two main approaches. Closed rhinoplasty is done through incisions inside the nose and leaves no visible scars. Open rhinoplasty uses a small incision on the columella, the tissue between the nostrils, giving the surgeon a full view of all structures. For Constantine patients, the choice depends on goals: complex reshaping of the bones and bridge often calls for the open approach.

Some details are easy to miss. Class 2 compression stockings should be bought in advance for the hospital stay, each test must be on a separate form with a stamp and signature, and chronic conditions require a specialist's clearance. After the operation, microcurrent or ultrasound therapy and a diet without salty or spicy food help speed recovery. This applies to all Constantine residents.

One price, $4,200 (≈ DZD 570,000), applies to open and closed techniques, tip work and septorhinoplasty alike. It includes general anaesthesia, a day in the inpatient unit, doctor monitoring and a free check-up afterwards, and the clinic gives a lifetime guarantee on the result. Constantine residents can start with a free consultation: the doctor examines the nose and names the exact figure.

Patient reviews

What patients write after this operation. Reviews are translated from the original language.

Ekaterina Ivanova

For a long time I was self-conscious about the length of my nose, until a friend who had had rhinoplasty recommended this clinic. At the very first consultation they set the date of surgery and explained every stage in detail. The rhinoplasty under general anaesthesia was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling went down quickly, and after just a week my nose looked natural and neat. Modern equipment, attentive staff and appointments without delays made the whole process comfortable. I recommend the clinic to anyone who values professionalism and a quality result.

Rhinoplasty

Olga Vasilyeva

This was my first visit to the clinic, for rhinoseptoplasty, and to be honest I was very nervous. At the consultation they explained every stage of the operation and recovery in detail, which calmed me down straight away. The operation was performed by Mareta Meirieva: the swelling started to go down on the third day, and the result is visible to the naked eye. Everything inside is sterile and pleasant, the atmosphere inspires trust, and the staff are always responsive. I thank the clinic for the high level of service and the warm approach!

Rhinoplasty

Marina Samarina

Everything was first-class: clean, cosy and calm. Booking and choosing the right date was easy. The nose operation went smoothly and the nerve block was done perfectly: now I breathe freely without nasal drops! It is a real lifesaver for anyone tired of endless prescriptions and ineffective procedures. I recommend it to everyone who values professionalism and results.

Rhinoplasty

Viktoria Petrova

I recently had rhinoplasty and I am absolutely delighted. At the consultation they told me about every stage in detail, so I went into surgery fully prepared. The operation went smoothly: they straightened the bridge of my nose and made the nostrils symmetrical, and the shape came out very neat. The swelling lasted a little longer than I expected, but they explained straight away that full recovery takes more time. No unpleasant surprises, everything was within the normal range. I recommend the clinic to anyone looking for a confident result and an attentive attitude.

Names, Numbers and Registers: Verifying a Surgeon First

Start with the part nobody finds exciting. In Algeria, medicine is regulated by the Councils of the Medical Professions Order, with the National Council of the Order of Physicians at the head, and nobody may practise without entry on the Order's register. That register is the official proof. Before you fall in love with a proposal, ask the coordinator for the surgeon's registration number and registered specialty, in writing. Write the questions you will ask the council on a card: full name, registration number, registered specialty and, if possible, the date of registration. A prepared card keeps a short call from turning into a muddle.

The councils are organised into twelve regional bodies, and the first election was held in 1998. We could not confirm a public online directory, so a quick search will not settle anything. Contact the relevant regional council yourself, quote the number you were given, and ask whether the specialty matches. It takes one telephone call or one message, and it is the cheapest protection you will ever buy. If the call goes unanswered, write a message and keep a copy, then try again on another day. A single failed attempt proves nothing, and the point is to reach a confirmation you can file with your other papers.

Do not accept a photograph of a certificate as a substitute. Certificates can be old, borrowed or unrelated to the operation you are considering. A registration number can be checked, a specialty can be named, and a surgeon who has nothing to hide will hand over both without a fuss. If you meet hesitation, take it as information. The same applies to anyone who speaks for the surgeon. A coordinator can pass on a number, but the number itself must be yours to check, because trust that cannot be tested is only hope.

Once the registration is confirmed, compare proposals on what is written: anaesthesia, duration, nights in hospital, follow-up, reference photographs and the specialty. A city that was named Capital of Arab Culture in 2015 knows that fine words are cheap and documents are not. Put the papers side by side on a table, and do not let tone of voice outrank content. Where two proposals differ, ask each side to explain the difference in writing, and do not let a deadline spoken aloud hurry you. A genuine offer survives being read again tomorrow.

The Day Itself: Ninety Minutes to Three Hours, Then a Night in Hospital

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and takes between an hour and a half and three hours, depending on how complex the case is. A long operation does not mean something has gone wrong; every nose has its own details. Tell the family the range beforehand, so that waiting in the corridor does not turn into collective worry. On the evening before, sleep early if you can, and follow the team's instructions on food and drink to the minute. This is not the time for improvisation or for a neighbour's habits.

After surgery you spend one day in hospital. Pack a shirt that opens at the front so nothing passes over your face, an extra pillow, a long phone charger and a list of your medicines and allergies. Ask your companion to write down what the team tells you in the morning, because the effect of anaesthesia can erase half the instructions. Bring identity papers, any test results the team requested, and your medicines in their boxes, all in one folder. Give relatives a list of the people the team may need to reach, and do not rely on a phone's memory alone.

Prepare the bedroom before you go: pillows that keep your head raised, water within reach, and any large mirror turned away for the first days so that you do not judge a swollen nose. Warn relatives that early visits are short, and that a telephone call reassures more than a long sit beside the bed. Plan the ride home too. Ask the driver to take the hilly, winding streets of the city gently, since a sudden jolt is unwelcome for someone who has just had surgery in the middle of the face.

Ask the surgeon in advance about glasses in the first period, how to clean the nose each day, and how to protect it from sun and heat. Skip advice from neighbours and videos, since every surgeon works differently, and the instructions from your own team are the ones that apply to your own face. If a question comes to you at night, write it to the coordinators even if it is late; replies come around the clock, and sleep after an answer is calmer than sleep with an open question.

Cirta, Numidia and the Limits of a Beautiful Nose

The city began as Cirta, capital of the Berber kingdom of Numidia, and was rebuilt in 313 as Constantina in honour of Constantine the Great. A history that long teaches something useful to anyone about to change a face: names change, features shift, yet the origin stays visible. Ask the surgeon how the new nose will sit with the features your family has always carried. Ask too what in your face the surgeon would leave untouched on purpose, since a plan that names what it will not change is usually a careful one.

Close to the city lie the Roman remains of Tiddis and the mausoleum of Massinissa. Anyone who has stood among those stones has seen how proportion governs everything built to last. Ask your surgeon to explain how the nose relates to your forehead, lips and chin, rather than to a photograph of a celebrity pulled from the internet. And if you admire a particular feature of a parent's face, say so openly; a surgeon can often keep it in the plan if he or she knows. Many who regret a rhinoplasty regret the lack of conversation beforehand, not the surgery itself.

The campus of Mentouri University was designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, famous for curves that balance open spaces. The same idea applies to a nose: a good surgeon draws the new line within the limits of your face, not beyond them. If he or she suggests something smaller than you asked for, do not be offended, since it may suit your face better. Ask to be shown documented examples of cases close to yours, and to hear what changed in them and what did not. Real examples teach more than a thousand promises.

Students at Mentouri and Emir Abdelkader universities often think about rhinoplasty between lectures and exams. Pick a date away from examination periods and from graduation parties, where everyone is filming. The first weeks are easier if you can keep out of cameras, and a quiet month is worth more than a perfect date on the calendar. A friend who knows photography can take your reference pictures under a single light, which saves the surgeon time and makes the assessment more accurate.

Four Seasons, One Nose

July in Constantine averages a high of 35.0C and August 34.6C, and the city has recorded 45.5C in September. Ask the surgeon how to protect the nose from sun and sweat during recovery, and whether a particular cover or shade is advised. Do not expose your face to direct heat in the early weeks, whatever the reason. If you must go out in hot weather, choose early morning hours, wear a broad-brimmed hat that does not press on the nose, and ask the surgeon whether you will need sun protection after the sensitive stage ends.

In winter, January averages a high of 12.4C and a low of 2.3C, February 13.2C and 2.5C. Cold brings blocked noses and colds, which are especially irritating after surgery, so ask in advance how a cold should be handled during recovery. Avoid crowded markets and anyone who is ill, and plan your winter days with fewer indoor gatherings. Reorganise your winter days so that crowded indoor gatherings are fewer. Weddings, banquets and busy markets carry colds from person to person, and your nose deserves protection from them.

The city receives about 502 mm of rain a year, with December the wettest month at 66.2 mm. Wet steps and pavements demand proper shoes and attention, because a fall onto a healing face is the worst thing that can happen. Do not go out alone on rainy days until your surgeon says you may. Before going out on a wet day, know when you will be back and who goes with you, and charge your phone. Heavy rain in December and January, which receives about 64.8 mm, makes roads and steps more dangerous than they look.

Across the year the average high is 22.7C and the average low 9.7C. Choose your season by what you can tolerate and not by hearsay: people who hate heat wait for autumn, people who hate cold wait for spring. More important than the season is a clear diary and someone nearby who can help. None of this is a rigid rule; it is material for a conversation with your team before the date is chosen. Tell the coordinator about your commitments across the year and they will help you find a month with rest, a clear diary and family nearby.

Questions Worth Asking the Coordinators

Begin with the thing that bothers you most. If it is breathing, say which side blocks and for how long; if it is the shape, describe it exactly: a bump on the bridge, a wide tip, a lean visible in profile photographs. The surgeon then decides whether the case is aesthetic, functional or both. Setting priorities at the start helps design the plan. Second, tell the team how long it has bothered you. An old complaint and a sudden change after an injury are different stories for the cartilage and bone, and one sentence from you is enough to put the surgeon on the right track.

Send photographs in daylight from the front, both sides and below, without make-up and without filters, from about a metre away. Stand by a large window rather than under a lamp, and hold the phone at eye level, because the wrong camera angle on its own can exaggerate a bump or hide it. The coordinators answer on Telegram and Telegram around the clock. If the shape is your concern, choose a window with soft daylight and keep the camera steady. Do not tidy your appearance for the photograph: a plain face gives the surgeon true information.

If you have had a nose operation before, give the date and say what you did not like. Assessment of a revision differs from assessment of a first operation, and there is no need to be embarrassed about an earlier result that left you unhappy. The more precisely you describe what you want to correct, the more useful the first reply will be. You do not need to justify your wish to anyone. What the team needs are facts and your priorities, and a calm, precise description gets a faster and better reply than a long apology.

You may postpone. A consultation stays in your conversation, and you can return to it whenever you like and continue from where you stopped. Constantine is the third city of Algeria after Algiers and Oran, and its people like to know who they are dealing with. Take the time your own questions need, and decide only when they have been answered. When you decide, send a short message confirming what you have agreed, so that you and the coordinator hold the same clear document. Then breathe: the preparation is done.

Should I start with looks or breathing in my first message?

Start with whatever bothers you most. If it is breathing, mention it first and say which side blocks; if it is the shape, describe it precisely. The surgeon then decides whether the case is aesthetic, functional or both. Knowing your priority helps the plan from the very beginning. The surgeon draws the plan around your priority rather than around a stock picture.

How long does the operation take, and what anaesthesia is used?

It takes between an hour and a half and three hours, depending on complexity, and is performed under general anaesthesia. You stay in hospital for one day afterwards. A long operation is normal in some cases, so do not worry if the surgeon takes longer than you expected. Leave a contact number for a relative so that your family hears the news promptly.

What should I arrange at home before the operation?

Prepare a bed with pillows that raise your head, water within reach, shirts that open at the front, and turn big mirrors away for the first days. Agree short visits with your family, and decide who will contact the coordinators if you need to.

Can I wear glasses afterwards?

The surgeon decides this according to your case, so ask before the date. Do not rely on advice from others, since every nose is different. Also ask how to clean the nose and how to protect it from sun. Keep the surgeon's written instructions beside your bed to reread when in doubt.

How do heat and cold affect recovery?

In summer stay in the shade and protect the nose from the sun as instructed by the surgeon; in winter avoid people with colds and crowded places, and watch wet ground. Ask beforehand how a cold should be handled, not once recovery is under way. Do not take any cold remedy of your own without checking with the team.

How do I check that a surgeon is properly registered?

Medical practice is regulated by the Councils of the Medical Professions Order and the National Council of the Order of Physicians, and entry on the register is compulsory. We could not confirm an open online directory, so ask for the number and specialty in writing and verify them with the regional council.

Can I postpone my decision if I am not sure?

Yes, and it costs you nothing. Your conversation with the coordinators remains open at any hour. Take time between consultation and decision, compare proposals on paper, and reread the written answers two days later. The decision that survives your questions is the right one.

When can I rely on photographs to judge the result?

Swelling hides the real shape in the early weeks, so do not judge from the first days. Take pictures in the same light and angles at regular intervals and send them to the coordinator, who will keep them in your file and discuss what you see. Doing so keeps comparison honest from week to week.
