What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is a surgical method of removing excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas. It is not a way to lose weight or a substitute for diet and exercise. Its goal is targeted contouring: removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly, and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It is suited to people whose specific zones retain fat in spite of normal weight and regular activity. What matters most: the fat cells removed do not grow back in treated areas, so a stable lifestyle keeps the result for years.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A saline-based special solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is first injected into the treatment zone. By loosening the fat tissue and constricting vessels, it minimises blood loss and allows gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then vacuumed out through a thin cannula.

Post-op swelling and bruising are barely there, and recovery is much easier than after a traditional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before the fat is vacuumed out, ultrasound breaks down the fat cells. This method is perfect for pronounced muscle definition — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor takes note of your wishes, examines you, evaluates the fat deposits and excludes contraindications. At City Medical Centre we also order hormonal screening to help predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Tests include blood work (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections: HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG and chest X-ray, with a GP consultation if needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before surgery, drop medicines that affect clotting. One week before, stop drinking and smoking for faster healing. Last meal — 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Meeting the surgeon, marking the areas, fitting compression garments. Anesthesia is local or general depending on the scope.
Duration: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

Under general anesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation. Under local anesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. First results show in 3–4 weeks as swelling goes down. The final result is assessed in 3–6 months, once the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Tumescent liposuction has a much shorter recovery than a conventional procedure, and most patients return to work in 7–10 days. During the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature can occur — this is a normal reaction to surgery. You wear compression garments for 30–45 days; they hold the new contours and help tissues recover faster. No bathhouse, sauna, pool or intense sport in the first month. We recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and gradually returning to activity for the best result and faster recovery. Visible changes start in 3–4 weeks, and the final result is seen in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Rabat step by step

Liposuction is minimally invasive: fat is removed through micro-incisions of just a few millimetres that usually need no stitches and become barely visible once healed. Before surgery the surgeon assesses skin tone and elasticity, because firm skin tightens on its own along the new contours. If you are considering liposuction in Rabat with stretch marks or reduced tone, preparatory treatments may be recommended.

Here is the route in brief. Consultation and hormonal screening. Blood tests, ECG and chest X-ray at the clinic. Two weeks of preparation. Marking and compression garments on the day, then surgery under local or general anaesthesia. Observation, discharge, 30–45 days in compression and check-ups at 7 days and 3 months. Patients in Rabat follow this same sequence.
