After liposuction: recovery

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes show 2 weeks after surgery, when the main swelling subsides; the final result forms in 3–6 months.

Post-op check-ups

After 7 days, at 3 months and at 6 months. Until the end of the year, get a post-surgery consultation with your surgeon to review results and get more information, at the clinic's expense.

Liposuction in Makurdi: what you should know

The operation is performed for adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications, and there is no upper age limit: the decision is made individually after an examination. Contraindications include endocrine obesity, decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anyone from Makurdi with a chronic condition should discuss it with a clinic doctor first.

Follow-up does not end at discharge. The surgeon stays in touch throughout recovery, and planned check-ups take place at 7 days and at 3 months. Until the end of the year, a post-op follow-up consultation with the surgeon is at the clinic's expense, to review the result and answer questions. Patients from Makurdi also get advice on returning gradually to activity.

Budget matters, so the price is agreed upfront and written into an official contract with a guarantee. Liposuction starts from $1,200 (≈ ₦1,600,000), and interest-free instalments make planning easier. The clinic has 400+ successful surgeries and 10 years of liposuction experience behind it. To begin, anyone from Makurdi simply leaves a phone number and waits for the coordinator's call.

Liposuction for people in Makurdi: how the consultation works

Makurdi is the capital of Benue State, in the Middle Belt of central Nigeria, on the Benue River. In 2017, Makurdi's urban population was 517,342. A city of this size has many people who think about body contouring but do not know where to begin. At City Medical Centre the first step is simple: you hold a free online consultation from your own home or office in Makurdi, and you do not need to rearrange your week around it.

Coordinators are available 24/7 on Telegram and Telegram. That matters in a city where working days differ a lot. A trader at the Makurdi Modern Market starts early. A lecturer at one of the universities has a timetable. A civil servant from the state or federal secretariat keeps office routines. You write when it suits you, send your questions and photographs, and arrange the video conversation for a moment that fits your own pace.

During the consultation the surgeon looks at the areas that bother you, asks about your health, previous operations, medications and your expectations, and explains what liposuction can and cannot do. The technique itself is described in advance: tumescent and VASER methods, micro-incisions of 3–5 mm and precise volume control. The aim is a smooth contour that keeps the natural proportions of your body, not an exaggerated change.

After the first consultation you receive written instructions for preparation. They include the pre-operative tests: blood tests, ECG, ultrasound, and consultations with a GP and an anesthesiologist. Many of these can be organised in Makurdi in a convenient place, and you send the results to the coordinator for the surgeon to review.

The city and its climate: what warm weather means for recovery

Because Makurdi lies in the valley of the Benue River, it has warm temperatures for most of the year. The period from November to January, when the harmattan is felt, is relatively cooler. For a procedure that requires 30–45 days of compression garments, this climate deserves honest planning.

Compression garments are worn close to the skin for many weeks. In warm weather they can feel heavy, and skin irritation or sweating is a real concern. Practical advice is general: choose breathable cotton layers under the garment if the surgeon agrees, keep the skin clean and dry, rest in a shaded or ventilated room during the warmest part of the day, and ask the surgeon how to take the garment off briefly for washing. Do not change the wearing schedule on your own.

The cooler harmattan months are often considered a comfortable period for recovery because the garment is easier to tolerate. At the same time, dry, dusty air can make skin feel tight and dry, so moisturising advice from the surgeon is useful. Dust is also a reason to keep dressings clean and to avoid dusty outdoor work while the small puncture marks heal.

No season is perfect. If your operation falls in a hotter period, the plan can be adjusted: you stay mostly indoors for the first days, drink enough fluids, and arrange your work so that you are not standing in direct sun. If it falls in the cooler period, you still protect treated skin from strong sun. The surgeon gives individual recommendations after surgery, and they take priority over any general rule.

Choosing the season for the operation in Makurdi

Patients often ask whether there is a best month for liposuction in Makurdi. The honest answer is that your health, your schedule and the surgeon's availability count for more than the calendar. Still, the local climate gives some practical points to consider.

The cooler harmattan period from November to January suits people who want the compression garment to be as comfortable as possible. Plan in advance: if you want to be in the garment during these months, begin the online consultation and tests earlier, because pre-operative preparation takes time and you need to stop smoking, alcohol and clotting-affecting medications such as aspirin 7–10 days before surgery.

If you choose a warmer part of the year, nothing prevents the operation, but your recovery plan should be more careful. Think about the room where you will rest, access to a fan or cooling, how you will wash and change garments, and who can help you at home for the first days.

Also consider the calendar of your life: the academic year if you work or study at a university or polytechnic in the city, busy periods in trade and farming, and family events. Fixing a date a few weeks before a wedding or a major celebration leaves too little margin. The first changes show at 2 weeks, but swelling and bruising clear by weeks 4–5, and the final result forms in 3–6 months. A calm schedule is better than a rushed one.

Work, study and daily life in Makurdi after liposuction

Makurdi is a commercial hub for the Middle Belt, and its economy is driven largely by trade and agriculture. The Makurdi Modern Market is a key distribution point for produce such as yams and cassava. Many residents work on their feet, carry loads or spend long hours outdoors. Others work in banks, offices, schools and telecommunications companies in the wards on the south bank, or at the universities and polytechnic on the north bank.

Most patients return to their usual routine and work in 7–10 days. For an office or classroom worker this can mean a short break and then a return to sedentary duties, wearing the garment under clothes. For a person whose work involves heavy lifting, such as loading goods, farm work or market stalls, the rule is stricter: for the first 7 days no physical exertion or heavy lifting, and after that you should ask the surgeon when you may resume heavy work. Do not decide this by how you feel on a good day.

Think about the logistics of daily life in a city split by the Benue River. The north and south banks are connected by two bridges, and traffic at busy times can be slow. Short, comfortable movements are fine, but long standing, jolting rides and crowding are tiring in the first days. If you live on one bank and work on the other, arrange to work from home for the first days or to have someone else drive.

Students at Benue State University, the University of Agriculture or the polytechnic can plan the operation for a quieter academic period and ask for lecture notes from classmates. Remember that swelling and bruising may still be visible until weeks 4–5, so if you have presentations or public events, leave a margin.

Food culture in Makurdi and planning your recovery

Food is part of social life in Makurdi. The region is agricultural, and yams and cassava are staples at the city's market. Meals are often shared with family and guests, and refusing food can feel awkward. Before the operation, talk to your family about your plans, so that they understand why you may eat lighter portions for a short time or avoid some dishes the surgeon advises against.

Liposuction is not a diet and not a replacement for one. The WHO describes overweight and obesity as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health, and that is a medical question to discuss openly with the surgeon. Liposuction is intended for shaping stubborn areas, not for treating general excess weight. If the surgeon thinks that weight management should come first, he or she will say so during the consultation.

After the operation, balanced eating helps you feel well and keeps the result stable. Starchy foods such as yam and cassava are filling and can be part of a normal diet, but portions and frying methods matter. Ask the surgeon and the coordinator about hydration, protein and any dietary restrictions for the first days. Alcohol is off-limits for at least a month, which is worth remembering at social gatherings.

Plan the first week so that meals are ready at home, preferably prepared by a relative, since you should not stand for long or lift heavy pots. This small step makes recovery easier, especially in households where cooking is a major daily activity.

The operation: anaesthesia, duration and the stay

Liposuction is performed under local or general anaesthesia. The surgery takes from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure. The surgeon marks the treated areas, you are fitted with compression garments, and the fat is removed through micro-punctures of 3–5 mm using tumescent and VASER techniques with precise volume control.

The choice between local and general anaesthesia depends on the volume, the number of areas, your health and your preference, and it is decided at the consultation. With local anaesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery. With general anaesthesia you stay one day in a comfortable ward under medical supervision. Either way, plan for a responsible adult to be with you at home after discharge.

For people in Makurdi this means thinking in advance about who will stay with you, how you will rest, and how your household will function without you for a few days. The puncture sites are only 3–5 mm across and usually need no stitches. Once healed, the marks are barely visible, and with proper care during recovery they fade completely.

We respect your time: we work 24/7, with easy booking and a personal approach, and we adapt to your pace. Your coordinator is available on Telegram and Telegram before and after surgery, so questions that appear at night or on a weekend do not wait.

Recovery timeline and what to avoid

Recovery is a process with clear stages. The first changes show at 2 weeks after surgery, once the main swelling goes down. Swelling and bruising clear by weeks 4–5. An interim result is assessed at 1.5–2 months, and the final contours form in 3–6 months, once the tissues have fully adapted. Judging the result too early is a common mistake.

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. For the first 7 days there is no physical exertion or heavy lifting. For 4–6 weeks you wear compression garments and avoid the bathhouse, sauna, pool and active sport. Alcohol and tanning beds are off-limits for at least a month. In Makurdi, where the Benue River and warm weather make water and sun tempting, this is worth keeping in mind: avoid the pool and do not sunbathe on treated skin during the recovery period.

Sport is a topic many patients raise. Walking at an easy pace is usually encouraged early, but football, running, gym training and similar activities should wait until the surgeon allows them. The surgeon follows your recovery at check-ups after 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. You can attend them by video from Makurdi, sending photographs and describing how you feel.

Check-ups, dressings and aftercare advice are already included in the cost of surgery. Until the end of the year, you can also get a post-surgery consultation with your surgeon to review results and get more information, at the clinic's expense. Your surgeon gives all individual recommendations after surgery, and these always take priority over general advice.

Questions Makurdi patients ask before liposuction

People in Makurdi tend to ask practical questions first. Will I be able to keep my usual routine? Who will look after the house while I rest? Can I speak to the surgeon without taking a day off? The free online consultation is built around these concerns. You write to a coordinator on Telegram or Telegram, available around the clock (24/7), and the video conversation is set for a time that suits your day.

Another frequent question is about expectations. Many patients want to know whether liposuction will make them lighter on the scales. It is a contouring procedure: it removes fat from chosen areas to give a smooth line that keeps the natural proportions of the body. It is not a weight-loss method, and the surgeon will tell you honestly if your goal needs a different approach.

Patients also ask how visible the traces will be. The punctures are only 3–5 mm across and usually need no stitches. Once healed, the marks are barely visible, and with proper care during recovery they fade completely. Ask the surgeon how to look after the skin so that the marks heal well.

Finally, people ask about privacy. Many prefer to discuss body contouring quietly, without the whole neighbourhood knowing. A video consultation from your own room, with messages exchanged in your own time, makes that easy in a city where many families and colleagues know one another.

Questions to put to the surgeon during the video consultation

A good consultation is a two-way conversation, so prepare a short list before the call. Start with the areas: which of them are suitable for liposuction, which should be treated together, and whether a combined procedure is sensible for you. Surgery lasts from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure, so the plan affects the length of the operation and the choice of anaesthesia.

Ask which anaesthesia is recommended and why. With local anaesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery; with general anaesthesia you stay one day in a comfortable ward under medical supervision. Ask what you should arrange at home in Makurdi before either option: a rested room, a helper, clothes that fit over the garment.

Ask about the compression garment: how it is fitted, how long you wear it (30–45 days), how to wash it, and what to do if it irritates the skin in warm weather. Ask what you can do at work in the first days and when check-ups take place: after 7 days, at 3 months and at 6 months.

Ask what would make the surgeon postpone the operation, and what he or she expects from you in preparation. Write the answers down. If something is unclear, send the coordinator a message afterwards; you do not need to wait for the next call.

Family, social life and support at home in Makurdi

Makurdi is home to many communities, among them the Tiv, Idoma, Hausa, Igede, Jukun, Agatu, Etulo, Alago and Igbo, and family ties are usually close. Relatives often visit, help with children and take part in each other's celebrations. This is a real advantage during recovery, if you plan it well.

Decide in advance who will stay with you after the operation, especially if you choose general anaesthesia. Agree on simple tasks: preparing meals, helping with the compression garment, driving you to the video check-ups or simply sitting nearby. For the first 7 days no physical exertion or heavy lifting is allowed, so household duties such as carrying water, lifting children or moving furniture must be passed to someone else.

Think about social events too. Weddings, church or mosque gatherings and family celebrations are important, and long standing, dancing and crowds are tiring in the early weeks. Alcohol is off-limits for at least a month. Choose a date for surgery that leaves a calm margin before major events, because swelling and bruising clear by weeks 4–5 and the final result forms only in 3–6 months.

If you prefer to keep the operation private, tell only those who will help you. The coordinator can explain how to organise recovery so that daily life continues with as few questions from outsiders as possible.

Staying in touch after surgery: check-ups by video

Care does not end when you leave the ward or go home. The surgeon follows your recovery and the new body contour at check-ups after 7 days, 3 months and 6 months. For a patient in Makurdi, contact stays simple: you send photographs, describe how you feel and talk to the doctor by video, while the coordinators remain available on Telegram and Telegram around the clock.

Before each check-up, take photographs in the same light and from the same angles. Note your questions: swelling that seems uneven, areas that feel firm, skin that itches under the garment. Early on, uneven swelling is common as tissues settle, and the surgeon will explain what is normal and what needs attention.

Dressings and aftercare advice are already included in the price of surgery. Until the end of the year, you can also have a post-surgery consultation with your surgeon to review the results and get more information, at the clinic's expense. Use it: it is the best moment to discuss how the contour looks once the tissues have adapted.

Who is a candidate and who should wait

We operate from age 18+, if there are no contraindications. There is no upper age limit: after an examination and health assessment, the decision is made individually. This is relevant in a city with many students and young professionals as well as older residents who have long considered body contouring.

Good candidates are generally in stable health, have localised areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise, and have realistic expectations. Liposuction changes contour; it does not replace healthy habits. Conditions such as serious heart, blood-clotting or other chronic problems, active infection, or an unstable general state can be contraindications or reasons to postpone. The surgeon decides after reviewing your tests and medical history.

Be honest about everything in the consultation: medications, supplements, previous surgeries, smoking and alcohol. Smoking, alcohol and medications that affect clotting, such as aspirin, should be stopped 7–10 days before liposuction. This is not a formality; it affects bleeding and healing.

If you are planning a pregnancy, are in the middle of a major weight change, or are under heavy stress, say so. A good surgeon will sometimes recommend waiting, and that is a sign of careful practice, not a refusal.

Can I have the first consultation about liposuction from Makurdi without leaving home?

Yes. The consultation is free and online. You contact the coordinators on Telegram or Telegram, who are available 24/7, send photographs and basic health information, and then speak with the surgeon by video. You do not need to arrange anything physical in the city to start.

How long does the operation take?

Surgery takes from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure. The exact time depends on the number of areas and the volume of fat to be removed. The surgeon gives an estimate at the consultation.

Will I stay overnight?

It depends on the anaesthesia. With local anaesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery. With general anaesthesia you stay one day in a comfortable ward under medical supervision. Make sure that someone can be with you at home afterwards.

When can I go back to work in Makurdi?

Most patients get back to their usual routine and work in 7–10 days. If your work is sedentary, such as office or classroom work, this is usually realistic. If your work involves heavy lifting or long hours on your feet, ask the surgeon before returning, since the first 7 days require no physical exertion or heavy lifting.

How should I deal with the warm weather while wearing the compression garment?

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. In the warm climate of Makurdi, rest in a ventilated place, keep the skin clean and dry, stay out of direct sun and follow the surgeon's instructions on washing and changing garments. Do not stop wearing the garment without approval.

Can I go to the pool or play sport during recovery?

Not at first. For 4–6 weeks you wear compression garments and avoid the bathhouse, sauna, pool and active sport. For the first 7 days there is no physical exertion at all. Return to sport only when the surgeon allows it.

When will I see the result?

The first changes show at 2 weeks, once the main swelling goes down. Swelling and bruising clear by weeks 4–5, an interim result is assessed at 1.5–2 months, and the final contours form in 3–6 months. Check-ups are at 7 days, 3 months and 6 months.

Will there be visible scars?

The surgery is done through punctures only 3–5 mm across, which usually need no stitches. Once healed, the marks are barely visible. With proper care during recovery they fade completely. Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds on treated skin.

How should I prepare for liposuction?

Give up smoking, alcohol and medications that affect clotting, such as aspirin, 7–10 days before surgery. Pre-operative tests are required: blood tests, ECG, ultrasound, and consultations with a GP and an anesthesiologist. You receive all instructions after the first consultation.

Is there an age limit?

We operate from age 18+, if there are no contraindications. There is no upper age limit. After an examination and health assessment, the decision is made individually.

I live in Makurdi and work in the market. Can I plan the operation around my trading days?

Yes. Tell the coordinator about your work pattern. Most patients return to their routine in 7–10 days, but heavy lifting and long hours on your feet need the surgeon's approval, and the first 7 days allow no physical exertion at all. Arrange a helper at your stall or home for that time.

Is liposuction a way to lose weight?

No. It shapes chosen areas and keeps the natural proportions of the body. If your main concern is general excess weight, the surgeon will discuss this openly and may suggest dealing with it first.

Can a relative join the video consultation?

Yes, if you wish. Many patients in Makurdi invite a spouse, parent or close friend so that the person understands the recovery plan and can help at home. Tell the coordinator in advance.
