What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas is what liposuction offers. It is no weight-loss method and no substitute for diet or exercise; its aim is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly and deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

This operation is meant for people whose specific areas keep fat despite normal weight and an active life. The key point: removed fat cells do not grow back in the treated zones, so with a steady lifestyle the result is long-lasting.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

A special solution based on saline, with lidocaine, adrenaline and some other agents, is injected into the area first. It softens the fat tissue and constricts vessels, minimising blood loss and making removal gentle. After that, a thin cannula removes the fat emulsion by vacuum.

Recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure, with almost no swelling or bruising after surgery.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines you and assesses the fat deposits, ruling out contraindications. City Medical Centre also prescribes a hormonal screening, useful for predicting the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Pre-op tests: blood (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

The surgeon meets you, marks the areas and fits the compression garments. Local or general anesthesia is used depending on the scope.
The operation lasts 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

After general anesthesia — one day under observation in hospital. After local anesthesia — home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days. First results in 3–4 weeks, once swelling subsides. The final result is assessed at 3 months, when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients are back at work within 3–7 days. Mild swelling and a slightly raised temperature are possible in the first week — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days to fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. For the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and quicker recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes come in 3–4 weeks, the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Karol Bāgh: from consultation to result

The operation is performed for adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications, and there is no upper age limit: the decision is made individually after an examination. Contraindications include endocrine obesity, decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anyone from Karol Bāgh with a chronic condition should discuss it with a clinic doctor first.

Inside the operating room the process is gentle. With the tumescent method a solution of saline, lidocaine and adrenaline is injected into the area, loosening the fat and narrowing vessels. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula. With VASER, ultrasound breaks down fat cells first. Either way, patients from Karol Bāgh get micro-incisions that are barely visible later.

There are no surprises in the bill: the price is set after an examination, recorded in the contract and stays the same. Starting from $1,200 per area, liposuction can be paid in interest-free instalments. Patients from Karol Bāgh begin with a free consultation where the surgeon answers questions about technique, recovery and contraindications before anything is decided.
