What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction means surgical removal of excess subcutaneous fat from specific problem areas. It is not for losing weight and cannot stand in for diet and exercise. It is about targeted body contouring: saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging abdomen, fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction is for people whose particular areas keep fat despite a normal weight and an active lifestyle. The main point: fat cells removed from treated areas don't grow back, so with a stable lifestyle the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First, a special solution based on saline with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is injected into the treatment area. It loosens the fat tissue and constricts the vessels, minimizing blood loss and allowing gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

You get almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is far easier than after a conventional one.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, ultrasound breaks the fat cells down. This makes the method ideal for body contouring and for defining pronounced muscle relief, i.e. athletic abs.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

At the visit the doctor listens to your goals, examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. City Medical Centre adds a hormonal screening, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood work — complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection tests for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis — plus ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation if required.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Medications affecting blood clotting are stopped 2 weeks before. Alcohol and smoking are stopped a week before to speed healing. The last meal is 8 hours before surgery.

Surgery day

Consultation with the surgeon, area marking and fitting of compression garments. Anesthesia is local or general, per the scope.
Duration ranges from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

With general anesthesia — one day in hospital under observation. With local anesthesia — discharge 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days. First results in 3–4 weeks, once swelling subsides. The final result is assessed at 3 months, when the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Unlike a conventional procedure, tumescent liposuction allows a much shorter recovery — most patients are at work again within 3–7 days. Some mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are possible; this is a normal response to surgery. You wear compression garments for 30–45 days so they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. The first month rules out the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport. We recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity for the best result and faster recovery. First changes become visible in 3–4 weeks, and the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

How liposuction works for Delhi residents

Liposuction is minimally invasive: fat is removed through micro-incisions of just a few millimetres that usually need no stitches and become barely visible once healed. Before surgery the surgeon assesses skin tone and elasticity, because firm skin tightens on its own along the new contours. If you are considering liposuction in Delhi with stretch marks or reduced tone, preparatory treatments may be recommended.

Duration depends on scope: from about one hour for a small area to three or four hours for a combined procedure. Anaesthesia is local or general depending on how much is treated. After general anaesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation; after local anaesthesia you go home three to four hours later. The same approach applies to patients from Delhi.

What does the first step cost? Nothing: the plastic surgeon consultation is free. At it you learn whether liposuction suits you, which method fits your zones and what the final price will be, starting from $1,200. People in Delhi can fill in the short form or write in any messenger, and the coordinator will get back to you shortly to arrange a convenient time.
