What is regenerative
joint treatment?

Everything used in regenerative joint treatment comes from you: platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made from your blood, and the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) from a little adipose tissue. The doctor injects it into the painful joint to lessen inflammation and pain and to support the joint's inner tissues.

If you live with joint pain and hope to postpone or avoid surgery — or were told that replacement is the only option — this may be for you. How early the condition is matters for a lasting effect, and the doctor determines the stage from your scans.

Joints we treat

From large joints to small ones: the doctor picks the joint, the technique and the injection count after studying your scans

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Your adipose tissue, taken in a small sample, is processed so that the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) can be isolated: a mixture of cells that play a role in tissue repair. Together with your own plasma, it goes into the affected joint.

It tends to be used when the joint is more visibly changed and a longer-lasting effect is being sought.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

A small amount of your blood is processed to separate plasma rich in platelets and growth factors, which is then injected into the joint. It helps settle inflammation and gives the tissues better conditions for repair.

It can be given as its own course of injections or combined with SVF.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

An examination of the joint and a review of your X-ray, MRI or ultrasound results let the doctor decide whether the procedure suits you. Please send any scans you have before the visit.

Blood sample for PRP

We take a small blood sample from a vein. From it, platelet-rich plasma containing growth factors is prepared later on.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

With local anaesthetic, a small amount of adipose tissue (around 30 ml) is taken via a puncture on the abdomen or inner thigh — without stitches.

Processing in a centrifuge

A centrifuge splits the sample into layers. From these, the stromal vascular fraction is isolated and blended with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

Ultrasound guidance allows the prepared material to be injected precisely, directly into the affected joint.

Follow-up

There are no crutches and you do not stay in hospital. After the procedure the doctor stays in contact and tracks the joint's response.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

The plan is adjusted at follow-up visits, where the doctor sees how the joint is responding. Pain tends to ease within the first month, mobility improves over about three months, and the full effect develops over around six months.

After the procedure

The majority of people are discharged the same day and resume normal daily activity within a day or two; the puncture sites are simply covered with small dressings. Expect the joint to ache somewhat more in the first week — that reaction is normal. Pain usually eases in the first month, mobility and activity improve over roughly three months, and the full effect develops over around six months. The duration varies from person to person and depends on the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors; no one can promise a fixed result. Individual advice on exercise and load for the first weeks comes from your doctor.

Why patients choose City Medical Centre

Your own tissue

The material comes only from your own blood and adipose tissue, never from donors or synthetics

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

Joint treatment in London: methods, steps and price

Non-surgical joint treatment is not for everyone. It is not done with cancer, acute infections, blood clotting disorders, during pregnancy or during a flare-up of a serious chronic illness. The doctor checks this for every patient in London at the consultation.

Follow-up visits help the doctor see how the joint responds and adjust the plan. In London, you receive recommendations on load and exercise for the first weeks, and the doctor stays in touch after the procedure.

Leave a request, and a coordinator will contact you to arrange a free consultation and scan review. The price of joint treatment in London is set individually and explained before any procedure.
