What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction surgically removes excess fat under the skin from problem areas. It is neither a weight-loss method nor a replacement for diet and exercise. The aim is targeted contouring: getting rid of saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction suits people with a normal weight and active lifestyle who still have fat in particular areas. Remember the key point: treated areas don't regrow their removed fat cells, so with steady habits the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

It begins with injecting a special solution into the area: saline plus lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The solution loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, so there is little blood loss and removal is gentle. After this, the fat emulsion is removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

After surgery, bruising and swelling are nearly absent and recovery goes much more easily than after a standard procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to you, performs an examination, evaluates your fat deposits and checks for contraindications. City Medical Centre also orders hormonal screening — it helps to predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

ECG, chest X-ray, blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis and syphilis) and, where needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop medications that affect blood clotting 2 weeks before. Quit alcohol and smoking a week before for faster healing. Eat your last meal 8 hours before.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
Duration ranges from 1 hour for small areas to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

General anesthesia: a day in hospital under observation. Local anesthesia: discharge 3–4 hours after the operation.

Recovery

Compression garments stay on for 30–45 days. Once swelling subsides, first results are visible in 3–4 weeks. At 3–6 months, with the skin fully tightened, the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks, the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

About liposuction for patients from Tangier

Which zones can be treated? The abdomen and flanks are the most requested, for women and men alike. Thighs (outer and inner), back and lower back, arms and shoulders, chin and neck, knees and the male chest are also corrected. Several areas can be done in one operation, saving recovery time and budget, which is why patients from Tangier rarely limit themselves to a single zone.

Duration depends on scope: from about one hour for a small area to three or four hours for a combined procedure. Anaesthesia is local or general depending on how much is treated. After general anaesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation; after local anaesthesia you go home three to four hours later. The same approach applies to patients from Tangier.

One operation can cover several problem zones, and the price reflects that: from $1,200 (≈ MAD 12,000) for a single area, calculated individually for combinations. The contract fixes the sum with no hidden extras, and instalments carry no interest. For patients from Tangier, a free surgeon consultation is the place to plan scope and cost together.
