What is liposuction
and who is it for?

As a surgical method, liposuction removes surplus fat beneath the skin in problem areas. Don't treat it as weight loss or as a substitute for diet and exercise: its purpose is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a drooping belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

The procedure is right for people with a normal weight and active lifestyle whose certain areas still store fat. Key fact: removed fat cells do not return to treated areas, so with a steady routine the result is long-lasting.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First the treatment area receives a special saline-based solution with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The fat tissue loosens and the vessels constrict, so blood loss is minimal and removal gentle. The fat emulsion is then drawn out by vacuum via a thin cannula.

You get almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is far easier than after a conventional one.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines you and assesses the fat deposits, ruling out contraindications. City Medical Centre also prescribes a hormonal screening, useful for predicting the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

You will need blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), an ECG, a chest X-ray and, if necessary, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before surgery, drop medicines that affect clotting. One week before, stop drinking and smoking for faster healing. Last meal — 8 hours before.

Surgery day

On the day you meet the surgeon, the areas are marked and compression garments fitted. Anesthesia — local or general, depending on the scope.
Surgery time: 1 hour for small areas, up to 3–4 hours for a combined procedure.

Waking up and monitoring

After general anesthesia — one day under observation in hospital. After local anesthesia — home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Compression garments for 30–45 days; first results in 3–4 weeks as the swelling subsides; the final result assessed at 3 months, when the skin has tightened fully.

Recovery after liposuction

Unlike a conventional procedure, tumescent liposuction allows a much shorter recovery — most patients are at work again within 3–7 days. Some mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are possible; this is a normal response to surgery. You wear compression garments for 30–45 days so they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. The first month rules out the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport. We recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity for the best result and faster recovery. First changes become visible in 3–4 weeks, and the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Kaduna: from consultation to result

The operation is performed for adults aged 18 and over with no contraindications, and there is no upper age limit: the decision is made individually after an examination. Contraindications include endocrine obesity, decompensated diabetes, blood clotting disorders, cancer, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Anyone from Kaduna with a chronic condition should discuss it with a clinic doctor first.

Inside the operating room the process is gentle. With the tumescent method a solution of saline, lidocaine and adrenaline is injected into the area, loosening the fat and narrowing vessels. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula. With VASER, ultrasound breaks down fat cells first. Either way, patients from Kaduna get micro-incisions that are barely visible later.

A free consultation is the easiest way to get an exact figure. The surgeon assesses the fat deposits, skin tone and your health, suggests the technique and the scope of surgery, and gives the price; liposuction starts from $1,200 (≈ ₦1,600,000). Apply before the end of the year and the consultation is at the clinic's expense. Patients from Kaduna can apply via the form or any messenger.
