What is liposuction
and who is it for?

In liposuction, the surgeon removes excess fat lying under the skin in problem areas. It won't replace diet and exercise, and it is not a weight-loss method. Its job is targeted contouring: removing saddlebags on the thighs, a loose belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

If certain areas hold fat while your weight is normal and your lifestyle active, liposuction is for you. Fat cells removed from treated areas do not come back, which means that with a stable lifestyle the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

The surgeon starts by injecting a special saline-based solution containing lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents into the treatment area. It loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, which minimises bleeding and allows gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Post-op swelling and bruising are barely there, and recovery is much easier than after a traditional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before the fat is vacuumed out, ultrasound breaks down the fat cells. This method is perfect for pronounced muscle definition — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor hears your wishes, examines and assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is also ordered, which helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood tests (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Medications affecting blood clotting are stopped 2 weeks before. Alcohol and smoking are stopped a week before to speed healing. The last meal is 8 hours before surgery.

Surgery day

The surgeon meets you, marks the areas and fits the compression garments. Local or general anesthesia is used depending on the scope.
Time on the table: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

Patients under general anesthesia stay one day in hospital for observation, while those under local anesthesia leave 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Plan on 30–45 days of compression garments. Initial results show at 3–4 weeks as swelling subsides; at 3 months the skin has fully tightened and the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

After tumescent liposuction, recovery is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 3–7 days. In the first week, mild swelling and a raised temperature are possible — a normal response to surgery. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and speed up tissue recovery. In the first month, bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster recovery we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. First visible changes appear in 3–4 weeks, the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

Liposuction in Bauchi: from consultation to result

Liposuction is minimally invasive: fat is removed through micro-incisions of just a few millimetres that usually need no stitches and become barely visible once healed. Before surgery the surgeon assesses skin tone and elasticity, because firm skin tightens on its own along the new contours. If you are considering liposuction in Bauchi with stretch marks or reduced tone, preparatory treatments may be recommended.

Some rules matter after surgery. For the first seven days, no physical exertion or heavy lifting. For 4–6 weeks wear compression garments and avoid the bathhouse, sauna, pool and active sport. Alcohol and tanning beds are off-limits for at least a month. Your surgeon gives individual advice, and people from Bauchi can stay in touch with the surgeon throughout recovery.

There are no surprises in the bill: the price is set after an examination, recorded in the contract and stays the same. Starting from $1,200 (≈ ₦1,600,000) per area, liposuction can be paid in interest-free instalments. Patients from Bauchi begin with a free consultation where the surgeon answers questions about technique, recovery and contraindications before anything is decided.
