What is regenerative
joint treatment?

This approach uses your own biological material — PRP, the platelet-rich plasma separated from blood, and SVF, the stromal vascular fraction taken from a small portion of adipose tissue. Injected into the affected joint, it helps reduce pain and inflammation and supports the tissues inside.

It can help if your joints hurt and you want to put off or avoid surgery, or if you have heard that replacement is your only choice. Chances of a lasting effect are higher at earlier stages of the condition, and your doctor assesses the stage from the scans.

Joints we treat

Both large and small joints are treated; the joint, the method and the number of injections are chosen by the doctor once your scans are reviewed

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

The stromal vascular fraction (SVF) — a combination of cells involved in tissue repair — is isolated by processing a small sample of your adipose tissue. It is combined with your plasma and injected into the joint that needs treatment.

It is typically chosen for more pronounced joint changes, with a longer-lasting result in mind.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

A small amount of your blood is processed to separate plasma rich in platelets and growth factors, which is then injected into the joint. It helps settle inflammation and gives the tissues better conditions for repair.

It can be used on its own as a course of injections, or together with SVF.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

Before anything else, the doctor examines the joint and goes through your X-rays, MRI or ultrasound to see if the procedure is suitable. Scans can be sent to us ahead of time.

Blood sample for PRP

All it takes is a little venous blood; later on it becomes platelet-rich plasma containing growth factors.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

Under local anaesthetic, a small portion of adipose tissue (about 30 ml) is taken through a puncture on the abdomen or inner thigh. No stitches are needed.

Processing in a centrifuge

The sample goes into a centrifuge, where it separates into layers. The stromal vascular fraction is isolated and mixed with your platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

The finished material is injected into the affected joint itself, guided by ultrasound so that it lands precisely.

Follow-up

There are no crutches and you do not stay in hospital. After the procedure the doctor stays in contact and tracks the joint's response.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

Follow-up appointments let the doctor judge the joint's response and adjust the plan; pain generally eases in the first month, mobility improves over about three months and the full effect develops over roughly six months.

After the procedure

Most people go home on the same day and are back to normal daily activity within a day or two; small dressings cover the puncture sites. In the first week the joint may ache a bit more, which is an expected reaction. Pain usually eases over the first month, mobility and activity improve over about three months, and the full effect develops over around six months. How long it lasts varies between people and depends on the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors — nobody can promise a fixed result. Your doctor gives individual advice on exercise and load for the first weeks.

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

What Aden residents ask about joint treatment

The earlier the stage, the better the chance of a lasting effect. That is why patients from Aden start with a review of their X-rays or MRI: the doctor assesses the joint and tells you honestly whether SVF or PRP is likely to help or whether another option is more realistic.

Most patients from Aden go home the same day and return to normal daily activity within a day or two. During the first week the joint may ache a little more — this is an expected reaction. Pain usually eases over the first month.

Patients from Aden can start with a free second opinion: send your X-rays, MRI, CT or reports, and a doctor will tell you whether SVF or PRP could help. The price of treatment is named at the consultation.
