What is liposuction
and who is it for?

As a surgical method, liposuction removes surplus fat beneath the skin in problem areas. Don't treat it as weight loss or as a substitute for diet and exercise: its purpose is targeted contouring, removing saddlebags on the thighs, a drooping belly and fat on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction is for people whose particular areas keep fat despite a normal weight and an active lifestyle. The main point: fat cells removed from treated areas don't grow back, so with a stable lifestyle the result lasts a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

First, a special solution based on saline with lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents is injected into the treatment area. It loosens the fat tissue and constricts the vessels, minimizing blood loss and allowing gentle removal. The fat emulsion is then removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising are close to none after the operation, and recovery is considerably easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Here fat cells are broken down with ultrasound before vacuum removal — an ideal method for defining pronounced muscle relief (athletic abs) and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines you and assesses the fat deposits, ruling out contraindications. City Medical Centre also prescribes a hormonal screening, useful for predicting the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Blood work — complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infection tests for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis — plus ECG, chest X-ray and a GP consultation if required.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before: stop medications that affect blood clotting. A week before: no alcohol and no smoking, so you heal faster. 8 hours before: your final meal.

Surgery day

Meeting the surgeon, area marking and compression garment fitting. The type of anesthesia, local or general, depends on the scope.
Lasts from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (a combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

With general anesthesia — one day in hospital under observation. With local anesthesia — discharge 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

30–45 days in compression garments. The first results appear in 3–4 weeks after the swelling eases; the final result is judged in 3–6 months, when the skin is fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Tumescent liposuction means a much shorter recovery than a conventional procedure. Within 7–10 days most patients are working again. In week one there may be mild swelling and a raised temperature, which is a normal reaction to surgery. Compression garments are needed for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and help tissues recover faster. Bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are not allowed for the first month. Lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity are recommended for the best result and faster recovery. First changes show in 3–4 weeks, the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What Aden residents ask about liposuction

It is worth being clear about what the surgery does not do. Liposuction does not treat obesity and is not a way to lose kilos; if your weight is unstable, a nutritionist or endocrinologist comes first. Nor does it change the skin structure behind cellulite, although smoother contours make it less visible. What it does for people in Aden is remove local fat and reshape the silhouette.

Duration depends on scope: from about one hour for a small area to three or four hours for a combined procedure. Anaesthesia is local or general depending on how much is treated. After general anaesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation; after local anaesthesia you go home three to four hours later. The same approach applies to patients from Aden.

The cost is built around your zones: from $1,200 (≈ YER 285,000) for the most compact area, rising for larger combinations such as the torso or the abdomen with flanks. Nothing is added later, because the contract fixes the price. Aden residents can split payment into interest-free instalments and begin with a free surgeon consultation, booked through the form on the page.
