What is osteoarthritis
(arthrosis)?

Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition, also referred to as arthrosis, in which the joint's cartilage thins and erodes step by step. As the cushioning layer fails, bones start rubbing together — the source of pain, stiffness and a reduced range of movement. It is a wear-related, degenerative disease; swollen flare-ups can still appear.

Typically the condition affects the joints that take the most strain — the knee (gonarthrosis) and hip (coxarthrosis), plus the ankle and small joints of the hand. It is most effective to treat at early and moderate stages, while the joint surfaces are not yet badly damaged; at a late stage the doctor will tell you openly whether joint replacement makes more sense.

Joints we treat

Any joint, large or small — once your scans are reviewed, the doctor settles on the joint, the method and the injection count

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

A small sample of your adipose tissue is processed to isolate the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) — a mix of cells involved in tissue repair. Combined with your own plasma, it is injected into the affected joint.

Mainly at early and moderate stages of osteoarthritis — to reduce friction between the joint surfaces and slow down cartilage wear.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

A small amount of your blood is used to separate plasma rich in platelets and growth factors, which is then injected into the joint. It helps settle inflammation and creates better conditions for tissue repair.

It is frequently used for mild osteoarthritis, and combined with SVF when a stronger effect is required.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

The doctor decides whether the procedure suits you after examining the joint and reviewing X-rays, MRI or ultrasound. Scans you already have can be sent ahead of your visit.

Blood sample for PRP

From a vein, a small amount of blood is taken — it will later be used to prepare platelet-rich plasma with growth factors.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

Roughly 30 ml of adipose tissue is taken through a puncture on the inner thigh or abdomen under local anaesthetic. No stitches are needed.

Processing in a centrifuge

The sample is spun in a centrifuge and separates into layers. The stromal vascular fraction is isolated and mixed with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

Ultrasound guidance allows the prepared material to be injected directly and precisely into the affected joint.

Follow-up

Neither a hospital stay nor crutches — and after the procedure the doctor stays in contact and follows how the joint is responding.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

The doctor uses follow-up visits to see how the joint responds and to fine-tune the plan. Typically pain eases over the first month, movement improves over about three months and the full effect builds over around six months.

After the procedure

You will most likely go home that same day and be back to normal activity within a day or two; small dressings are placed over the puncture sites. For the first week the joint may ache a little more than before, which is expected. Pain generally eases over the first month, mobility and activity improve over about three months, and the full effect takes around six months. The result lasts differently for each person, depending on the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors, so no fixed result can be promised. Staying at a healthy weight and exercising regularly in a joint-friendly way helps.

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

Osteoarthritis in Narela: from X-ray to follow-up

Osteoarthritis, also called arthrosis, is a chronic condition in which the cartilage of a joint gradually thins and wears away. For patients from Narela, it usually shows as aching pain on movement, stiffness after rest and crunching in the joint.

Osteoarthritis treatment in Narela is not done with cancer, acute infections, blood clotting disorders, during pregnancy or during a flare-up of a serious chronic illness. The doctor checks this at the consultation.

The cost of osteoarthritis treatment depends on the joint, the stage and the method, so the price is set at the consultation. For patients from Narela, the first consultation and review of your scans are free. Leave your name and phone number to book.
