What is osteoarthritis
(arthrosis)?

Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition, also referred to as arthrosis, in which the joint's cartilage thins and erodes step by step. As the cushioning layer fails, bones start rubbing together — the source of pain, stiffness and a reduced range of movement. It is a wear-related, degenerative disease; swollen flare-ups can still appear.

Most often it hits the most heavily loaded joints — knee (gonarthrosis) and hip (coxarthrosis) — along with the ankle and the small hand joints. Early and moderate stages respond best, before serious damage to the joint surfaces; at an advanced stage the doctor will be honest with you if replacing the joint is the more realistic path.

Joints we treat

From large joints to small ones — which joint, which method and how many injections is decided after the doctor studies your scans

Methods we use

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

Cell therapy (SVF) from your own adipose tissue

First a small sample of adipose tissue is processed to isolate the stromal vascular fraction (SVF) — cells involved in tissue repair. This fraction, combined with your plasma, is then injected into the affected joint.

The typical indication is early or moderate osteoarthritis: the aim is slower cartilage wear and less friction between the surfaces of the joint.

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

PRP — platelet-rich plasma from your own blood

We separate plasma rich in platelets and growth factors from a small blood sample and inject it into the joint. This helps quieten inflammation and supports better conditions for tissue repair.

It is a common option in mild osteoarthritis and is combined with SVF where a stronger effect is needed.

How the procedure goes: step by step

Consultation and scan review

The doctor examines your joint, looks through your X-rays, MRI or ultrasound and decides whether the procedure is right for you. If you already have scans, you can send them ahead of the visit.

Blood sample for PRP

From a vein, a small amount of blood is taken — it will later be used to prepare platelet-rich plasma with growth factors.

The doctor tells you in advance which tests are needed.

Adipose tissue sample

A small portion of adipose tissue (about 30 ml) is taken under local anaesthetic through a puncture on the abdomen or inner thigh. There is no need for stitches.

Processing in a centrifuge

After spinning in a centrifuge, the sample forms layers. The stromal vascular fraction is isolated from them and mixed with the platelet-rich plasma.
The whole procedure is done in one day.

Injection into the joint

Prepared material is delivered by injection straight into the affected joint, and ultrasound guidance helps with precise placement.

Follow-up

You need neither crutches nor a hospital stay. The doctor stays in contact afterwards and monitors the joint's response.

Follow-up visits

After 1 month
3 months
6 months

At follow-up visits the doctor checks how the joint is responding and adjusts the plan. Pain usually eases during the first month, mobility improves over about three months, and the full effect develops over around six months.

After the procedure

Most people return home the same day, with small dressings on the puncture sites, and resume normal daily activity within a day or two. During the first week a little more joint ache is an expected reaction. Over the first month pain usually eases, over about three months mobility and activity improve, and the full effect develops over around six months. How long it lasts depends on the person, the stage of the condition, body weight, activity and other factors; no one can promise a fixed result. A healthy weight and regular exercise that is kind to the joints help the result last longer.

Joint treatment: frequently asked questions

What Ibb residents ask about osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis most often affects the joints that carry the most load: the knee (gonarthrosis) and the hip (coxarthrosis), as well as the ankle and the small joints of the hand. Patients from Ibb with any of these joints can have their scans reviewed free of charge.

Many patients in Ibb notice the first changes 2–3 weeks after the procedure. A stable result forms over about six months and can last from several months to several years, depending on the individual.

How much does arthrosis treatment cost in Ibb? The doctor names the price after assessing the stage from your X-ray or MRI and choosing PRP, SVF or a combination. Send a request or message us in any messenger.
