What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is an operation to remove excess subcutaneous fat from problem zones, not a way to slim down or to skip diet and exercise. It is aimed at targeted contouring — removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging tummy and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

The procedure is right for people with a normal weight and active lifestyle whose certain areas still store fat. Key fact: removed fat cells do not return to treated areas, so with a steady routine the result is long-lasting.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

It begins with injecting a special solution into the area: saline plus lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The solution loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, so there is little blood loss and removal is gentle. After this, the fat emulsion is removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

Swelling and bruising after surgery are almost absent, and recovering is much easier than with a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

We listen to your wishes: the doctor examines you, assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre there is also a hormonal screening that helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Tests include blood work (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections: HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG and chest X-ray, with a GP consultation if needed.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

Stop any medications affecting blood clotting 2 weeks before; stop alcohol and smoking a week before for quicker healing; eat for the last time 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Consultation with the surgeon, area marking and fitting of compression garments. Anesthesia is local or general, per the scope.
Length of surgery: from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

Under general anesthesia you spend one day in hospital under observation. Under local anesthesia you go home 3–4 hours after surgery.

Recovery

Plan on 30–45 days of compression garments. Initial results show at 3–4 weeks as swelling subsides; in 3–6 months the skin has fully tightened and the final result is assessed.

Recovery after liposuction

Most patients return to work within 7–10 days, as recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. In the first week, expect possible mild swelling and a raised temperature — the body's normal response to surgery. For 30–45 days you wear compression garments that fix the new contours and speed up recovery of the tissues. Skip the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport for the first month. We advise lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and returning to activity step by step for the best result and quicker recovery. First visible changes in 3–4 weeks, final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What Zarqa residents ask about liposuction

Two techniques are used. In tumescent liposuction a saline-based solution with lidocaine and adrenaline is injected first; it loosens fat and constricts vessels, so blood loss is minimal and there is almost no bruising. In VASER liposuction ultrasound breaks down fat cells before vacuum removal, which suits athletic abs and delicate zones. The surgeon picks the method for each patient in Zarqa.

Results appear in stages. The first changes show about two weeks after surgery as the main swelling subsides, visible contouring comes at 3–4 weeks, and the interim result is assessed at 1.5–2 months. The final contours form within 3–6 months, once the skin has fully tightened and the tissues have adapted. Patients from Zarqa see the surgeon at check-ups after 7 days and 3 months.

There are no surprises in the bill: the price is set after an examination, recorded in the contract and stays the same. Starting from $1,200 (≈ JOD 860) per area, liposuction can be paid in interest-free instalments. Patients from Zarqa begin with a free consultation where the surgeon answers questions about technique, recovery and contraindications before anything is decided.
