What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is a surgical way to remove surplus subcutaneous fat from troublesome areas. It is not meant for weight loss or as an alternative to diet and exercise. Instead, it sculpts specific zones: thigh saddlebags, a sagging belly and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

It suits those who have a normal weight and an active life but still hold fat in specific areas. Importantly, fat cells taken from treated zones do not regrow, so a steady lifestyle keeps the result for a long time.

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

It begins with injecting a special solution into the area: saline plus lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. The solution loosens fatty tissue and constricts vessels, so there is little blood loss and removal is gentle. After this, the fat emulsion is removed by vacuum through a thin cannula.

There is almost no swelling or bruising after surgery, and recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

With this method, ultrasound breaks down fat cells prior to vacuum removal. It is ideal for body contouring and for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines you and assesses the fat deposits, ruling out contraindications. City Medical Centre also prescribes a hormonal screening, useful for predicting the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Pre-op tests: blood (complete count, coagulation panel, biochemistry, infections — HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a GP consultation.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

For faster healing, stop alcohol and smoking a week before. Stop medications that affect blood clotting 2 weeks before. Have the last meal 8 hours before.

Surgery day

Areas are marked, compression garments fitted and you meet the surgeon. Whether anesthesia is local or general depends on the scope.
It takes from 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

With local anesthesia you are discharged 3–4 hours after surgery; with general anesthesia you stay one day in hospital under observation.

Recovery

You wear compression for 30–45 days. First results come in 3–4 weeks as the swelling fades; the final result is evaluated in 3–6 months after the skin fully tightens.

Recovery after liposuction

Recovery is much shorter after tumescent liposuction than after a conventional procedure, and most patients resume work within 7–10 days. The first week may bring mild swelling and a raised temperature — a normal response to surgery. Wearing compression garments for 30–45 days fixes the new contours and speeds up tissue recovery. For one month, the bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are off-limits. For the best result and faster healing, we recommend lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity. You'll see first changes in 3–4 weeks and the final result in 3–6 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What Amman residents ask about liposuction

Some areas keep their fat no matter how active you are or how normal your weight is. That is exactly who liposuction in Amman is for: people with local deposits that resist training and diet, uneven fat distribution or disrupted body proportions. It also helps restore the silhouette after childbirth or sudden weight loss, and in men it removes the fat component of gynecomastia.

Recovery after tumescent liposuction is much shorter than after a conventional procedure. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. Mild swelling and a raised temperature in the first week are a normal response. Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days to fix the new contours. For those in Amman, lymphatic drainage massage and pressotherapy are recommended to speed things up.

There are no surprises in the bill: the price is set after an examination, recorded in the contract and stays the same. Starting from $1,200 (≈ JOD 860) per area, liposuction can be paid in interest-free instalments. Patients from Amman begin with a free consultation where the surgeon answers questions about technique, recovery and contraindications before anything is decided.
