What is liposuction
and who is it for?

Liposuction is a surgical method of removing excess subcutaneous fat from problem areas. It is not a way to lose weight or a substitute for diet and exercise. Its goal is targeted contouring: removing saddlebags on the thighs, a sagging belly, and fat deposits on the back, flanks, arms or chin.

Liposuction suits people with a normal weight and active lifestyle who still have fat in particular areas. Remember the key point: treated areas don't regrow their removed fat cells, so with steady habits the result lasts a long time.

Areas we treat

Liposuction techniques at City Medical Centre

Tumescent (classic) liposuction

The treatment area is first injected with a special solution of saline, lidocaine, adrenaline and several other agents. This loosens the fat and narrows the vessels, so blood loss is minimal and removal is gentle. Next, the fat emulsion is vacuumed out through a thin cannula.

Recovery is much easier than after a conventional procedure, with almost no swelling or bruising after surgery.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

Before vacuum removal, fat cells are broken down by ultrasound. The method is ideal for defining pronounced muscle relief — athletic abs — and body contouring.

It also suits delicate areas.

How the surgery goes: from consultation to result

Surgeon consultation

The doctor listens to your wishes, examines and assesses the fat deposits and rules out contraindications. At City Medical Centre a hormonal screening is also ordered — it helps predict the long-term result.

Pre-operative tests

Complete blood count, coagulation panel, biochemistry and infection tests (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis), an ECG, chest X-ray and, if needed, a consultation with a GP.

All tests can be done at the clinic with no waiting.

Preparation

2 weeks before, stop medications that affect blood clotting. A week before, stop alcohol and smoking for faster healing. 8 hours before, the last meal.

Surgery day

You see the surgeon, who marks the areas, and the compression garments are fitted. Anesthesia can be local or general depending on the scope.
The operation lasts 1 hour (small areas) to 3–4 hours (combined procedure).

Waking up and monitoring

Hospital stay: one day under observation after general anesthesia, or discharge 3–4 hours after surgery with local anesthesia.

Recovery

Compression garments are worn for 30–45 days. First results show in 3–4 weeks as swelling goes down. The final result is assessed at 3 months, once the skin has fully tightened.

Recovery after liposuction

Tumescent liposuction means a much shorter recovery than a conventional procedure. Within 3–7 days most patients are working again. In week one there may be mild swelling and a raised temperature, which is a normal reaction to surgery. Compression garments are needed for 30–45 days: they fix the new contours and help tissues recover faster. Bathhouse, sauna, pool and intense sport are not allowed for the first month. Lymphatic drainage massage, pressotherapy and a gradual return to activity are recommended for the best result and faster recovery. First changes show in 3–4 weeks, the final result at 3 months.

Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What Theni residents ask about liposuction

Which zones can be treated? The abdomen and flanks are the most requested, for women and men alike. Thighs (outer and inner), back and lower back, arms and shoulders, chin and neck, knees and the male chest are also corrected. Several areas can be done in one operation, saving recovery time and budget, which is why patients from Theni rarely limit themselves to a single zone.

Is it painful? No: the procedure is done under anaesthesia, local or general depending on scope. Afterwards mild discomfort is possible and is relieved with painkillers prescribed by the doctor. Most patients return to their usual routine in 7–10 days, while swelling and bruising resolve by weeks 4–5. That is the typical course for people in Theni after liposuction.

Liposuction in Theni costs from $1,200. The exact amount depends on which areas you want to correct — abdomen, flanks, thighs, back, arms, chin or knees — and on whether they are combined in one operation. The surgeon calculates it individually after the examination. The first consultation is free, and a coordinator will book it once you leave a request.
